my thing is how cruel does one have to be, to rob students of basic necessities like food?? the food that you as a working person have the privilege to afford everyday? please tell me how? i’m so sick of this honestly, our government is failing us beyond measure and im literally so tired. With that being said, please register to vote everyone.
I'm a student at Rhodes University and i can tell you NSFAS is failing us. Fees are still not fully paid and mind you, the academic year is done. Allowances have not been received ever since the controversial switch to direct payments. Applications for next year have not yet opened, so we can expect a backlog, multiple funding errors especially to the first year students of next year. Tragic how rife and blatant corruption is in this country.
This is so sad, I have friends who till this day of the academic year they still didn’t receive their allowances, the system keeps changing their status, one month it’s on provisional funded which means you are qualified for funding and another month it’s on appeal, students are dealing with eviction letters from their residences each week and they still need to show up for class and be productive, not to mention the hunger and other social issues they confront each day, it’s so sad the system is failing students so bad!!
Current Student who's under NSFAS. I was only approved by NSFAS in September (after I took our a loan with UCT). I only received one month of my NSFAS allowance after 8 months without it and now they are 3 days behind schedule. My only hope is to get a part-time job somehow but for now i have no idea what I'm going to do about my situation. I have no money.
This video just shows how much students really need to take politics and voting seriously.. voting is no longer for our parents and grandparents, everyone is affected by the government and how it operates. I wish students can just realize such, more especially the vulnerable 😪
As someone who's been through the tertiary education system over many years, I have seen many students either make or break their chances of making life a success depending on whether NSFAS was available or not. I was luckier than most in the sense that I furthered my hons and masters studies with bursaries and had great support from my family to boot. Great video Dan. Your channel is already geared for great success. Looking forward to seeing more of it.
Speaking from a personal experience being a financially disadvantaged student is depressing, having to worry about registering every year, if you’ll be unblocked, standing on long queues to Financial Aid for days or weeks, it’s truly a nightmare experience.. Im just blessed to have passed that phase but it was a tough 5 years i wont lie, in 2021 i remember i had lost hope and thought i wouldnt finish, then got a call to go a register
I applied every year and was never successful yet there were students that were doing a 2 year national diploma over 5 years and getting NSFAS every year. I struggled through my studies doing all kinds of jobs and graduated eventually.😢😢😢
If a graduate student thinks it is difficult to get higher education.... Think again, because trying to get a job in SA is even more difficult! NOTHING IN THIS WORLD IS GUARANTEED!!! No 'FREE' jobs available anymore!
This is very sad. For us who are now parents of youngsters, TEFSA worked very well in the 90s. All payments were done my March and bursary conversion was limited to 60% of the loan upon passing so that the remaining 40% to be paid back could go back into the kitty to re-fund the scheme. Of course, there were some delinquent beneficiaries who refused to pay back even when employed but they seemed to have an efficient debt collection process in place back then. It seems something went very wrong when they changed over to NSFAS in the early to mid- 2000s. So sorry you guys have to go through all that pain. Another thing is that the govt seems to have sold SA youth a lie of every student being eligible for university, which will never be the case. That's why previously students were encouraged to look at other avenues and we had various institutions of higher learning, which the very same govt closed down creating a bottleneck at all universities. This is all a wicked problem which seems to have been self inflicted.
4:24 I got like 20K from that R6.97B pie. Thanks NSFAS, was written off after the first or second year of FMF. Never got support after that (missing middle). I was granted opportunities to work on campus and used that to pay (with help from family), eventually started getting bursaries. There is hope, even if it seems Rome is burning. My heart is with all the students who are truly dependent on that funding for bettering their lives.
Time to crunch the numbers 186,150 students. R6,970,000,000 / 186,150 = R 37,442.92 This includes transfer costs and admin, but still that's almost half missing. Obviously depending on when you got the funds, the Money pool and Student pool could've been larger than from 2014.
i am a victim for this i struggled as a computer science could not write one of my Subjects now I'm in a bad spot only God know what will happen and i don't know what will i do
The country is bankrupt and run by criminals, has been for decades. Honestly, plan around it if you are a student. It won't change and your not going to live forever, so dont hold your breath. SA is a failed state, apply for a working holiday visa for a year. Spend 10 years making the best of a bad situation and see how life goes. Getting into the middle class via higher education and employment after that, is not a reality for the top 1% of brilliant young people - hasnt been for 20 years. If you're a high schooler, get your parents to research working holiday visa's and start saving what you can. all in I'd assume the 'legal' route is about R25 000 to get you on a farm in a first world country making R10 000 per week +-. While travelling I met many young people from all over the world and they were travelling the globe on pennies, people from png islands, broken countries in South America - places as poor as us here.
She didn't end up getting any jail time. She got a 3 year suspended senstence, on comdition she didnt do the same type of thing again and then she got hired for a treasury position... And then fired when they found out about this incident. South Africa truly is a movie.
Stellenbosch University uses 4 million rand to produce Connect/Venters (a first year dane that every student can does in the beginning of the year) and NSFAS students are starving because of no money for food.
I wouldn't be able to study next year due to this and unisa's system. Their system is offline and I tell them and then for some reason it is my fault. I am so tired of them. I even went as far to unisa's Ombudsman and they did nothing. I will rather study further when or if I get a job.
Not a lot I'm afraid, I am a product of NSFAS and now work for a fast growing tech company 😎. However, back then as a coloured who stuck out like a sore thumb in every situation as a student it was literally hell. Got R800 a month for food 😢 and I lived in a pigeon hole of a dorm room with zero friends, (cause I was poor lol). Getting a job was a choice if you wanted your grades to suffer (high scores means no payback for loan so imagine the dilemma 😔). I'm a farm boy so pain and humiliation hardened me in childhood 😂. However, many people were riddled with mental health issues because of the pressure. Together with majority chosing degrees that were either racially prejudice job wise or had no value in the market 🤷🏽♂️. Definitely the worst 4 years + masters of my life 😅.
1. Nsfas should stop funding useless faculties that are of low employment basis. Stick to finance, science, agriculture and technology. Fund courses that are of high value here & internationally. The rest, pay yourself! 2. You’re wrong, Nsfas doesn’t fund matric students that did well, they fund anyone that qualifies regardless of how ridiculous the course they’re pursuing is. That’s how get/Tver colleges also get funding. We should be funding the most achieving students solely for the most effective and important academic streams. The fuck are we funding a Bachelor of Arts for? Why are we funding LLB? Marketing? Social work? Social Sciences? For what?
I work in tech as a Data Scientist and do some pretty awesome stuff. I have one of those "ridiculous" degrees and based on my monthly review report I quote: "I forget that he is not a seasoned techie..." The fastest growing sector globally is tech more specifically software and data. When looking to train these new and exciting skills the profile that is the most likely to fail the aptitude test is your beloved maths, science and agricultural graduates. The actual truth is I have an amazing career trajectory as a young South African while my friend who is a chemical engineer is still struggling for a job 🤷🏽♂️.
Hahaa my sister waited for funding but stil went university and we had to scrape money together in the mean time till TETA got the funding together. In the end, they said over the phone - Money was stolen. That’s it. Nothing else. People were fired but still Money gone 😂😂

If they chowed money for covid why do you think they'd care . I don't know how to describe them .They are very heartless and extremely greedy
😂😂😂

It's been nine months on my end idk anymore I just sent out a few cv but they all want experience
dude I also took a loan, I ended up not going to UCT went to UKZN instead
This video just shows how much students really need to take politics and voting seriously.. voting is no longer for our parents and grandparents, everyone is affected by the government and how it operates. I wish students can just realize such, more especially the vulnerable 😪
your content is so informing and so important. thank you for using your platform to educate 🙏🏾

Great video Dan. Your channel is already geared for great success. Looking forward to seeing more of it.
Thank you very much
South Africa is crippling. I don't see professionallly lead.
The sad thing is that out tax goes to these programs but it's not reaching the beneficiaries
Thanks for demystifying NSFAS. I now have a better understanding.
Pleasure
You landed on my for you page and I’m grateful for the knowledge. I hope this channel grows
I stopped receiving my nsfas this june. I am a uj student coming from a poor household, it's been a struggle, I literally gave up hope this month
My prayers are with you 🙏🙏

Great to see such a quality channel in South Africa
While all of this is happening, we're slap-bang in the middle of exams and we haven't gotten our allowances.
I'm going to university next year, and I need student funding.
This was eye opening
I hope you find good fortune
Yaw bra your channel gonna grow crazy fast with quality journalism like this
SA's Johnny Harris doing the most as always!!!
Still don't know who that is 😂
The resemblance is uncanny fr, exception here are blue eyes instead of green😂
I see it 😂😂

NOTHING IN THIS WORLD IS GUARANTEED!!!
No 'FREE' jobs available anymore!
Unless you know someone. Fet colleges, apprenticeship and shadowing as volunteers seem to be effective ways to get along.
This is genuinely heartbreaking 💔
I've been upset all week
Really appreciate your channel, so informative! I'm honestly here to stay.
Thank you kindly!
Not only NSFAS but the entire school system needs to be reformed because of literally how trash it is of educating learners
I am addicted to this channel! 😭

I comment as one of those student who’s life is awfully affected by NSFAS ,did not receive my allowance and is ignored by both NSFAS and Norraco
i am a victim for this i struggled as a computer science could not write one of my Subjects now I'm in a bad spot only God know what will happen and i don't know what will i do
Great content my king, keep the great work you do, i saw you on TikTok and make sure that i will follow your content

The last part"it reads like a disaster novel"😂😂
Voters must be kept at dunce level. Otherwise the ANC has no chance in elections.

I'm asked to pay 2014-2017 after fighting for free education mxm
I like the background😅🤩🤩
Very little "deserving" students....how many worthwhile degrees was produced by students in this system....at what cost for the taxpayer?

Can you cover the currency manipulation
NSFAS has funded us at UNISA over the last four years I've been there
Hello Dan❤😭🙌🔥🔥
Yeah by the way Sbongile Manie is not in jail. In fact she's been elected at a tresurer position at WSU
Treasurer damn. We really want to be defrauded & stolen from. How does that even make sense?

So much anger 😔
Faffed LOL and here I thought NSFAS was secure, but it just goes to show... The road accident fund is probably next, or SASSA...
Fuff NSFAS😢
Typical Africa
Hahaa my sister waited for funding but stil went university and we had to scrape money together in the mean time till TETA got the funding together. In the end, they said over the phone - Money was stolen. That’s it. Nothing else. People were fired but still Money gone 😂😂
