Then after a year or two I realized that neither male nor female are labels I'm comfortable with for describing myself. So I came out as non binary to my family. Again, very nerve racking. After all, my native language doesn't really have gender neutral words for a lot of things, nor does it have widespread gender neutral public bathrooms. It takes a lot of research to figure out how to get the gender neutral symbol on your id card. The society is still very binary in terms of gender, even though trans people are very much accepted and their needs are met very well. But my family, despite not really understanding it, were supportive and willing to learn. I've had to answer the question of whether my sexuality changed since I came out as nb a few times, but I get that it's a bit confusing to understand if you're not in the LGBT+ community. Even my grandpa seemed to understand what it means (after I explained it of course) and was very supportive. Within my family I'm definitely the odd one out, but they accept and support me either way ^~^
The "tbh we forgot" is so hilariously sweet like that's how it should be be but I can't help but laugh and smile at the fact no one told this person their uncle was trans like "oh yeah that's right they weren't always nick, I totally forgot"
I have some close trans friends and it happens to me all the time too. I was talking to one of them once (he's a trans guy) and we were talking about dating and sex and stuff, guy talk basically. Somehow we got to talking about embarrassing moments in dates and one that came up was having to hide when you're "visibly excited". I was about to ask him about it and I just stopped for 10 seconds and started laughing as my brain was processing it. 😂
I often forget my bestie is trans XD I’ve just gotten used to her being, well, _her_ so when she mentions things about her transition, it takes me a second to remember ‘oh yeaaahhh she’s trans’
I had a friend I worked with like that, one time she asked if I had a Tampon she could have and I looked her dead in the face for like 30 seconds before she remembered, but to be fair to her that’s like the only thing I didn’t have stashed in my drawer of random stuff at work.
One of my friends mentioned he changed his name and I thought for about a year that he was trans. Turns out he was cis and when I told him this story he got all paranoid that he’d transitioned from female to male and forgotten about it 😅
Sometimes I'm surprised that historians don't have ship wars. Imagine historians being like people in anime fandoms when they see characters having just a tiny bit of chemistry, instantly trying to find out more info to see if the characters could be canon hehe
When I came out as bi my mom was a little confused she said “can I root for one side more than the other (men)?” I replied with “of course I’m rooting for the other side more so we even it out (women)” and when I did get a gf she was super supportive and happy that I was happy. This story didn’t need to be told. But I miss my mom she passed away 9 months ago, so she won’t get to see who I end up with
Person A: “I’ve had a gf, I think I’m qualified to give advice.” Person B: “Aren’t you a girl tho?” Person A: Doesn’t mean I haven’t had more then you.
When people said stuff like "You're a lesbian/gay? But you've dated boys/girls before so you can't be a lesbian/gay." is like saying, "You're shoe is a 7 in womens? But you use to be a size 3 in women so I'll get you a size 3." Our feet get bigger with age and so does someone's understanding of the world so yes I can still be a lesbian even tho I've dated boys. It's called character development, Karen now back off, I'm watching The Owl House season 2 on loop until it airs a new ep.
@@ashtnstextingstries3577 I have to read it twice to understand what you mean. The first time I read it, I thought you were talking about how people can still turn into Lesbian even though they start as straight person A.K.A Converting, and converting orientation is kinda fucked up no matter if it's from gay to straight or likewise. I read it a second time then realise you're trying to explain that sometimes people didn't know they're gay quite early, so people could be lesbian even when they had experiences with boys before which probably lead to a bland unhappy relationship and the emphasis on "before". I think the shoe analogy just befuddled me, or the word development- idk. But then again I don't really speak English, it's my third language to learn... So, eh?
Imagine that uncle Nick talking to a friend: "Yeah we want kids, but can't have them biologically" "Oh that's ok, I know a guy" "You... Know a guy?" "Yeah, you can procure some kids" "Procure them?" "Yeah you know. Come by some kids. Sometimes kids just happen to people." "..." "..." "Ok, sounds totally unsuspicious"
My mum was totally ok if one of us came out as gay. Her best friend when she was a kid confessed to her, my uncle was gay and came out to her first, she had gay/lesbian friends, she even defended a gay church member from pretty much the entire congregation. So I came out as Ace. Well, "coming out" is the wrong word as I was crying in the bedroom when I learned that Aceness is even thing and I'm not broken and she walked in wondering why I was crying. Does "being in the closet" allegory even work when 1. You didn't know this particular closet existed and 2. That door was slammed open so fast you still hadn't comprehended that staying in was an option? Anywho, she couldn't wrap her head around it at first. 'You're not gay, bi, or straight? You don't like anyone at all?' It made her sad for a long time, took me to the lady doctor to check for possible biological reasons, etc. But when my little sis also came out as Ace (homo-romantic as opposed to my aromantic), she began to accept it a little more heartily. I guess my point is, even the most accepting LGBT+ ally ever can still have a period of adjustment needed.
Yes you can still be in the closet even if you don’t know you’re in the closet. Some people take a little longer to figure it out than others. There is nothing wrong with you as a person. Please continue to stay safe and I hope you have a good day.
Your mom sounds like she’s just concerned and doesn’t really understand, I hope one day she does! She sounds like a good person from what I’ve heard :)
when I came out to my mom as ace she said something along the lines of “I would accept you in a heartbeat if you told me you were gay.” she felt bad for me because I would “never being able to get married” (even though she already knew I didn’t want to get married in the first place, and even though I told her ace people CAN get married). it took her some time, but she eventually came around. she tries to be a good parent and that’s what matters
ASEXUALS, REPRESENT! P.S. my momma said she and my dad dated a lot of people in highschool because they wanted to feel loved, needed, or "complete" and when I came out to her she basically lost her mind because she was so happy I feel so amazing being single. Ask anyone who's met me, I'm high on life. Me and my mom were in the car at the time, and she isn't the type o' person to cry when they're happy, but I was a little nervous we were gonna go off the road she was so excited. It's like she had 3 triple espressos and they all hit at the same time.
yeah- my mom uses neutral terms when discussing my siblings’ and my future partners, but i’m aroace…she also makes a lot of comments like “one day you’re gonna meet someone and want to drive ine handed so you can hold their hand” or “no i’m not gonna skip the sex scene because it’s a part of life and you’ll find someone you want to have sex with one day”…. i’m closeseted aroace who is romance neutral and sex repulsed… i feel like she’s not gonna believe me if i come out because “everyone one needs love” as if friendship isn’t as validating and valuable as romantic partners…she also assumes that i’m dating everyone i hang out with so that’s annoying to. Yeah so i did come out to her as bi like a year ago but i had a crisis and my label changed, but i’m more scared to come out as aroace than i was to come out as bi

@@r.j.penfold I mean I'm pan and I don't mind, then again that's cause I haven't ever cared what others thought about me. My mom has been dismissive of me being nonbinary since I came out, and just all "you're my daughter. You're a girl." The other day I was having a really bad dysmorphia day, and we were supposed to be getting ready to go out for dinner, she walked in on me sobbing because no matter what I did, what I wore, what I layered, I couldn't get flat enough. In that moment I swear I could see the realization set in that its true, and more than just me saying something. She tried to help me by trying to find stuff in her closet that could maybe help flatten. And now she's looking into trying to get me a binder. My mom has always been stubborn and "accepting" but not entirely, so I was surprised. I just wanted to tell everyone. Sorry. Edit: y'all, I wasn't expecting this! I'm happy but wow! Thank you for the support, and I really hope this does inspire people 💖💖💖
I had a very similar story! I was figuring out my gender and my mom knew. I had to go to a cousins wedding but her family are extremely religious so girls aren't allowed to wear pants. My mom dropped of some dresses at the group home i was in for me to try on and i reluctantly took them. Come the day of the wedding, im on the floor, crying my eyes out for two hours straight because i dont want to wear a dress. My psychologist comes in to the room (she worked in the home and was called because no one could calm me down) and told me to get up and move to the bed and cry there, cant really explain how but it helped me. I called my mom still crying and told her i wasnt going to be able to come to the wedding and that im so so sorry and just basically sobbing. She didn't even think before she asked if it was because i needed to wear a dress. She said i could wear pants under it and only come for like an hour and then change in to a t shirt. That was enough for me. When i finally came out as a guy she was the first in my family to use my pronouns and name, and the only one who didn't ask me if i was sure, because she knew i was. It still took her some time but shes probably my closest ally in the family (they're all religious, just not as much as my cousins).
Hey, you seem to be in a dark place right now so i'm gonna say a few things : - you may not feel loved right now but Im sure it ll come around eventually - stay around here. ot is awesome, this comunity too - it is ok to need help and to ask for help - refering to friends & family but also psychological help and support especially if you are in pain - im probably ranting on a non existing problem. in that case just have a good day dude
Honestly me and my bestie (we both identify as females) agreed that we’re probably never gonna have a partner in the future and be forever alone so we’re gonna get platonically married and live in a cottage on a mountain together 😌
OT please never stop being an icon for people of the LGBT+ community. Yes i know you arent gay yourself but that overwhelming support and ability to poke fun at bigotry while understanding alot of jokes amd just being wholesome the entire time is amazing.
There are two brothers who go to my dad’s church who are both gay. Their grandfather was a baptist minister. When his grandsons came out as gay he decided he stopped being a minister because he loved his grandsons unconditionally and decided he had to reevaluate his understanding of god. So whenever I hear people saying gays are in the wrong because of God I think of him.
Thank you for sharing this! I'm a religious, Jewish lady and I read the Bible. There's a lot in there encouraging people to live authentically! ❤️🙏🏳️🌈

When I was 16, I came out to my mom as bi. She responded with, "All girls go through that phase." Which totally recontextualized her relationship with her best friend/my godmother. Later in life, all of her friends were lesbians...
Here’s the thing about phases. We never really “grow out” of them. We just incorporate them into who we are and grow to be more then just a single part of us.

It doesn't help my neighbour keeps telling people we're sisters, confusing people further.
@@missflorathewriter9014 People don't universally make weird assumptions about mixed people but in my area a lot of people do, and people assuming I'm not related to my mother is one of the more harmless ones. As a child I'd have people randomly telling me I'm adopted when I'm not and the few mixed race people I met often had never met another mixed person. We're only just getting past the stage of being viewed as anomalies, and we often deal with more racism because racist genrally don't care to figure out what race we are, so we get racism directed towards other ethnicities as well as our own. I was 21 when I came out as lesbian, I was in denial for a long time. Its never too late to come out. Even when you suddenly realise there's been invisible closet walls around you since you hit puberty. Every one should take their time discovering who they are and what is right for them.
Ok I don’t wanna start any fights but let me play devils advocate for a second. I have actually read the whole article and yes the beginning sounds bad, but the more I read it, the more I could see where the writer was coming from. Basically, their frustration had nothing to do with whether the daughter was really bi or not but was rather frustration about her jumping on “woke” agendas and refusing to see another opinion. I believe the writer mentioned they were proud of the daughter for making her own political opinions and for devolving her identity, but the parent wishes that she wouldn’t just jump to new opinions as quickly as she did and fears that her coming out as bi is simply due to “jumping onto a bandwagon”. Being a member of the LGBT+ community myself, I understand that it can be hard to see articles like this that feel invalidating, but it’s always ALWAYS necessary to try and understand the other point of view. If not, we are just screaming our opinions into the void TL;DR: Try to see the full story and respect other opinions, even if you don’t agree
Still shocked Disney allowed the main character in The Owl House to date another girl. I feel like the writers may have been rubbing it in their faces or testing their luck with how many times that could put the word girlfriend into one episode.

I've been out and bi for like 8 years (basically since leaving high school), but totally forgot that I never actually "came out" to my parents because I didn't really feel the need to and then just kinda figured they knew or figured it out. I've been staying with my mum for a few weeks and made some off-hand comment about the next person I date probably not being male and she didn't notice for a second then did a double take with "wait, what?". We were both confused for a second since I thought she knew when she didn't actually know. Eventually it clicked that I hadn't ACTUALLY told her I like women and then I had to basically be like "uhh....surprise!". She was totally cool with it, non-judgemental, she's an LGBTQ+ ally, but it just never crossed my mind to tell her. We joked about it for a bit afterwards, and she kept being like "oh so when you were talking about how that lady is attractive...?" "yes mum, I wasn't just saying she looks pretty, I was saying she looks PRETTY"
One story that's suspicious to me is of William King and James Buchanan. Both men never married, although Buchanan had a fiancee named Ann Colemen who died in 1819 before they could get married. Both King and Buchanan were prominent American politicians, with King becoming the 13th vice president at 66 in 1853 and Buchanan becoming the 15th president at 65 in 1857. King's career spanned 46 years (1807-1853), while Buchanan's spanned 47 years (1814-1861). Both men lived together for most of their careers, and when King died from tuberculosis in 1853 at the age of 67, Buchanan became very sad. He even once wrote that he lived with King like a brother. Buchanan would die in 1868 from respiratory failure at the age of 77, still a bachelor.

Never, NEVER reveal a trans person's dead name. Their Uncle Nick may have let the family know, but it is not for use or you to know and share. Blur out dead names, do not say them, protect trans people from the jerks who will mock and deadname them.
…you know, I knew that deadnaming a trans person is insulting, hurtful, and potentially dysphoria-inducing. But it never occurred to me that even accidentally letting out a trans person's deadname means _the transphobes will then it into a weapon to attack and abuse that transperson_ with. I should've known though. Being gay, I dealt with those same evil bigots back in the 1990s, and they were lying, nasty, abusive, malevolent sacks of toxic sludge back then, so _Of Course_ they'd be this vile now. So, message heard, loud and clear: Not outing a trans person and keeping their deadname safely secret Protects Transpeople from the predatory transphobes.
I am in no way defending deadnaming someone, but there are some trans folks who don't mind sharing their deadname as they don't associate with it nor the dysphoria that came with it. Of course confirmation on whether or not they're okay with it or had permission to share it would be necessary, I can't imagine people learning my deadname 💔
As a trans person, if I'm 70 or dead and someone can get some comfort knowing I used to have a different name, screw it. I'll be old and everyone will be so used to me being that old, rude lady that they'll just associate the name with some imaginary 'other' person who 'died' at 22. I think of it like recognizing historic trans women like Mrs. Nash (who died in 1878) as icons.

One of my friends mentioned he changed his name and I thought for about a year that he was trans. Turns out he was cis and when I told him this story he got all paranoid that he’d transitioned from female to male and forgotten about it 😅

Both men lived together for most of their careers, and when King died from tuberculosis in 1853 at the age of 67, Buchanan became very sad. He even once wrote that he lived with King like a brother. Buchanan would die in 1868 from respiratory failure at the age of 77, still a bachelor.

The reputation of Wolff and Deken in the Netherlands is mainly that of two incredibly boring writers, but this video certainly inspired me to re-read their biography (of course boring people can just as well be gay as anybody else, can't they?)
The implication that being boring is a het trait tho
I'm pretty bi and pretty boring
Wolff and Aaaaa*
Oh, absolutely! My husband and I are a target boring couple.
Hijacking this comment to point out the museum one might have been a joke. Notice the pride flag at the end of that paragraph.
OT's laugh is just a wholesome version of a villain laugh
I now wanna make a DnD character with a wholesome but borderline maniacal villain style laugh. But they're like a Life Cleric or something Lawful Good. it would be hilariously confusing!
I've been banned from laughing at work by _three separate managers_ because apparently I laugh like a _serial killer._ 🤣
Have y'all ever heard The Click laugh?
The El Dorado one was gorgeous, the last one was pure heartwarming.

If Penguins did invade a place, many of the small ones wouldn't be a issue, but some of the bigger species can really mess up a person. if you see a Emperor Penguin, freaking RUN, their flippers can bludgeon you to death easily, and their long hooked beaks are perfect for piercing and tearing flesh.

That last family story made me cry. That’s how it should be done. Why is that hard for some people
I know! That story is so wonderful! I wish more people would just accept others for who they are, even if it takes time for that person to figure out who they are.
Ps on a side note: For some odd reason, I just thought of uncle Iroh from Avatar. I think he'd be cool with everyone being themselves. I think we could all be a little more like uncle Iroh. Anyway, hope everyone has a splendid day!
@@erinnix3197 iroh I strongly believe knows how to be a good man because he’s done bad things and caused great pain. And then he felt immense pain and realized how the war might have effected other parents losing their kids when he took over Ba Sing Se. because from what I gather he didn’t get kicked out or overrun by the people, he just stopped. He just took a step back and walked away. I love that show and I watch it when I need to feel better.
@@erinnix3197 Agreed, Iroh would definitely be super accepting and cool

2:56 You... were the LAST person I expected to see here.
Never, NEVER reveal a trans person's dead name. Their Uncle Nick may have let the family know, but it is not for use or you to know and share. Blur out dead names, do not say them, protect trans people from the jerks who will mock and deadname them.
His uncle might have given them permission to share it.
^^^either that comment or the name given may not have been his actual dead name. If not though then yeah it’s a real jerk move
The El Dorado guy sounds like Dr. Watson describing Sherlock Holmes lol.
Also sounds like the Disney movie "The Road to El Dorado".
Now that you mention if they did seeming recreate that character perfectly (apart from the being gay I guess)
Wait, it does omg .
I accept all my children equally.... That's why I publish a complaint about the bisexuality of my daughter in a national newspaper! Logic.....

Literally my first thought
yeah
One day I was watching The LexiKitty's Guide to coming out when I heard the term ace for the first time, and after looking it up, for the first time in my 58 yrs I finally understood. I told my mother, she cried I cried and she told me she didn't care if I was straight, lesbian, or what, as long as I was happy she was too. This was just 6 months ago and I no longer feel weirded out by my other family members who don't get it. My mom is 88 years young. On the brighter side, my incel neighbor waddled his way to our door 2 weeks ago to ask, again, if I wanted to sleep with him and after saying no for the nth time he asked "what are you gay or something?" My response was "Yes, yes I am. Thank you for asking" and I closed the door in his face. Mom still hasn't stopped laughing.
good taste in youtubers 👍 and congrats on figuring things out!
I think I almost choked on my spit at that last part. Good on you, it's never too late to figure yourself out.

Yup.
Somehow it’s funny to see ot trying to pronounce Dutch names 😂
Saying everyone has to take out 42 penguins implies there isn't a single person who owns a truck strong enough to ram into at least 43 penguins.
You say that as if the person who owns the truck has the heart to ram those penguins. People with big trucks dont eff around. They will cuddle you to death before they ever use their truck
