  • Blanton's is known as the first commercially available single barrel Bourbon whiskey. Blanton's Gold was formally released only outside of the United States, but now this 103 proof single barrel will be available yearly in North America. It is made at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfork, Kentucky and currently comes exclusively from Warehouse H.

    As a certified old geezer, I’m glad I had the opportunity to try in my youth (1960’s and ‘70’s) some of the great ones when they were affordable. I.W. Harper BiB and Old Weller 107 from Stitzel-Weller were my favorites. Later on I was lucky enough to get Pappy 15 made with Stitzel-Weller juice and pre Buffalo Trace Eagle Rare. These are all fond memories now so I’ll have to stick with the more pedestrian brands. At least there is some good bourbon out there that I can afford.

    My bourbon buddy got me a bottle of Blanton‘s Gold for Christmas a couple of years ago. It had a UK sticker on it and he tried to pass it off as a university of Kentucky release. Almost had me fooled until I read the bottle. Great evening that night sipping on his bottle. I just uncorked mine about a month ago. Boy is it good.

    We don’t get much bourbon wise in Canada but I’m glad I can get the gold on a semi-regular basis here. Best Blantons IMO, strikes the perfect balance between the regular and SFTB and is the perfect proof.

    Its March 2023 and i FINALLY got one. MSRP is now $130 and I was happy to snag it at retail. My only issue with it... I hate fingerprints on my bottles and this one, being all shiny glass, if very friendly to fingerprint smudges. You just can't touch it without leaving prints all over. Wiping it carefully is good, but you gotta be careful because of the handwritten gold font on it for the the barrel#, bottle#, rick info, etc.

    I am also surprised how much you like it, to be honest. I am having a pour of my Gold bottle, and somehow, it lost a bit of magic compared to a couple of years ago. It is open for two years, but I don't think it changed much. Its rather me who changed much, having explored Booker's, ECBP, Stagg jr. and so on since. I have a bottle of the Straight from the Barrel Blanton's from 2013, but I hesitate for five years to open it. The fact that I won't replace it for a crazy price - I paid 48 Euro back then by the way - makes it even harder. I think it will be a very special occasion, when I open it... However ... I got two bottles of 2015-02 Booker's today, which I ordered some days ago. Hooray, today was a good day ;) Cheers!

    The variation from Blanton's gold and SFTB is extreme... Some are great most are average. Some I would pay $200+ for ... However most are barely worth paying over retail and without trying it's first which means it's a gamble if you get a good one or not. Compared to other readily available products it's not worth the time/effort/money required to get a bottle.

    2:40 🤣 I agree that certain LE's are worth the msrp in the 100-200 price point just because there is no alternative to experience that flavor profile. I get sick of chain store employees telling me that LE's are over rated because there are "plenty of other good bourbons on the shelf", then trying to get me to buy whatever product corporate is telling them to push. Yes, there are plenty of other good bourbons on the shelf, but there are certain really GREAT bourbons that there is no substitute for. That said, paying 2 to 10 times over msrp on the secondary for a LE is foolish.

    • @jakewkayakfishing8457
      @jakewkayakfishing8457 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Please explain. Are you talking about availability? Blanton's aside, the rest of the BT lineup has very reasonable msrp. Name another 10 year bourbon for $30(ER). How about a 12 year wheater for $40(Weller 12).The distillery is not benefiting from the secondary market marking up the actual sale price. I think many unfairly blame the distillery for the crazy secondary prices(and even what smaller stores try to sell it for on the shelf). The juice is good, has a very unique flavor profile that is unlike anyone else's, and priced right by BT(Blanton's is really the only one I have an issue with). I do understand the frustration of not being able to find it on the shelf, and perhaps BT is partly to blame for that. I have been told they prefer to distribute to bars and restaurants over stores, not sure if that is accurate. If their endgame was to create such demand that they could drastically increase msrp you would think it would have happened already. It has gone up some, but other distilleries have actually increased prices more than they have, especially of LE's.

      Not as much as you'd think. The hype may die down a bit/the most hyped people may not be with us by then/the new crowd may get their fill by the distilleries that produce more. I'm a tater so I have no knowledge nor do I represent the taters, but I think the distilleries will release more inevitably because the taters are going to quit hunting because it's just impossible. That's just how Kentuckians say it.

      They do say the T. I just re-listened. Clean out your ears old timer!

    This is available in Sweden at a lower price (85 USD). The bottle looks great, but I honestly don't think this tastes better than Wild Turkey 101, which is almost half the price.

      It’s probably the availability here in Sweden that makes it less exciting.😅
