    EDITED TO ADD: This video is nearly TWELVE years old. I explain what I use in the video. This cleaner is meant for RUBBER or CLEAR (photopolymer etc) stamps - NOT POSTAGE STAMPS. I get the weirdest comments on this video even now asking about cleaning the cancellation marks off of postage stamps. This ain't it folks. Not to mention you can't clean off the cancellation marks as that's the whole point - they're permanent and meant to CANCEL the stamp so that it can never be re-used. OK I think that's about it LOL! ;)

      @@DebbieJsCraftingCorner Ultra Clean works way better than this especially when using stubborn inks. This formula or something like Brutus Monroe’s stamp cleaner is really good too (which came out way after I filmed this video).

  • @PrairiePaperandInk
    @PrairiePaperandInk  14 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    @desireem7 yes it will. But FYI photopolymer stamps stain VERY easily - and after a while no cleaner will make them "clear" again. The cleaner will remove the ink residue left on the stamps but it won't remove the stains - but staining doesn't affect the "stampability" of clear stamps in any way. HTH!

    A great tip to ^find^ distilled water is to use the water from the water tank in the dryer!
    Normally we just pour it out but that water in the container is distilled!!!
    Distilled means that the water has been brought up to gasform then cooled down again and got fluid consistency again. And during this procedure the water is cleaned from almost everything...
    That distilled water is also great for the iron, in the watertank there.
    And it's good for other things, but my memory is failing ATM...
    Have a great day now
    Hugs from Sweden 🇸🇪

      That's not distilled water, it's more deionized water, and normal without any particles in the water and destilled water is without any particles and any salts and other stuff that can be in water its 100% h2o the cleanest water that is possible, thats why its more expensive if bought.

  • @PrairiePaperandInk
    @PrairiePaperandInk  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    it's preferred as it's gentler and doesn't have as many harsh ingredients. I've never used regular shampoo so I can't say if it would make a difference or not.

  • @PrairiePaperandInk
    @PrairiePaperandInk  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @scrappinkay whichever way you choose to use it is fine. If you're spraying it right onto the stamp you then need some way to wipe it off though to actually clean the stamp off.

  • @PrairiePaperandInk
    @PrairiePaperandInk  15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It needs to be distilled water - if you use just regular well water/tap water there's a chance the mixture could smell funky (not sure if it would actually "go bad") or something down the road from any minerals/etc etc that are in well/tap water.

  • @PrairiePaperandInk
    @PrairiePaperandInk  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @zelda75231 it does if you clean the stamps RIGHT after stamping with Stazon - otherwise the stamp will still stain (and if it's a clear stamp it will stain no matter what ink you use - it's just their makeup). Ultra Clean stamp cleaner is awesome for cleaning stains off stamps - I use it along with my homemade version and I'm always good to go.

    FYI: I was at Hobby Lobby 3 days ago to get something else & asked the clerk in Crafts Dept. if they sold glycerin.She said it's always in the soap-making section of craft stores since it's an ingredient in making soap.They had 2 brands- one was $5.99 for 12 oz, & one "Soap Expressions" for $3.99 for 12 oz. & it's MADE IN THE USA. The only warnings on the glycerin bottle is do not ingest, avoid direct contact with eyes, & keep out of reach of children & pets. If I hadn''t needed my 40% off coupon for something more expensive, the glycerin would be $2.39!!! I'd stopped at Walmart just before & their glycerin was 10 oz for $6.97!

    • @kathybrenneman1868
      @kathybrenneman1868 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ACMoore and Michaels have the glycerine in the baking stuff, Wilton even makes some. It's used in making frosting and fondants. I only paid $2.49 for a 8 ounce bottle.

    Can I mix in the glass measuring container everything then pour that mixture into the plastic jar or does the glycerin need to be mixed in a plastic container first with water then the J&J cleaner added last, to work properly? I don’t want to cause an explosion, get burned or breathe in toxic fumes because I mixed ingredients in the wrong order. ☣️

    • @PrairiePaperandInk
      @PrairiePaperandInk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's glycerin, baby shampoo and water. You could pour it all together and shake the devil out of it and it's not going to create toxic fumes in any way, shape or form (I can't speak for what other craziness is on TH-cam but I would never recommend anyone mix up harmful chemicals let alone use harmful chemicals. None of these are harmful in any amount alone or mixed together).

    • @Obsidian_Iris_
      @Obsidian_Iris_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just in case you didn’t get/see a response since this video was made 10 years ago - she is talking about the stamps used in paper crafting. These stamps are made out of rubber or silicone. You are talking about postage stamps, which are made of paper. Once ink is absorbed into paper it’s permanent. This is deliberate; it insures the stamp can’t be used again. Try not to let it bother you. Anyone who collects stamps knows a used stamp will have ink from the stamp used to cancel it.

      Prairie Paper & Ink (AmyR) Actually, if you live in an area where you have hard water, boiled water is not a good substitute for distilled water. You can tell you have hard water if you have white crusty buildup around your faucets and in your toilet bowl you see those rusty stains. Distillation is more than just boiling water, it actually removes the minerals from hard water -- Arizona is ALL hard water. Distilled water at WalMart costs the same was drinking water. And I believe that vegetable glycerin in the glycerin of choice for stamp cleaner -- mine was way cheap at Walgreens and was in the hair treatment section.

      Well. I have not seen that but I am from Ga and moved to Ky and here the water is a bit harder then it was in Ga. I have sensitive skin/ very dry. since moving I have seen a difference when I shower. The water is not as soft feeling as it was in Ga and it drys me out more. I don't know if it's chemicals in it or what. But no I don't see the white stuff like you were talking about. I had boiled water then had it cool to keep in a jug for use in my craft room.

      So that’s a second click I have to waste to figure out that this cleaner is for rubber stamps, not postage stamps!

    @gurlmeow I recommend distilled water as it won't have any impurities in it - sometimes there can be "stuff" in tap water/spring water that can go bad over time if you know what I mean? But in reality if that's all you've got it would prolly be fine - it's not like you're drinking it ;o)
