Have only started rowing and erging properly at Uni since the beginning of September and did a 6:40 3 weeks ago, would love to see a 6:30 row along because that's the goal for the next few months!
Perfect timing…. I’m a LWT 55 category, & doing the BRIC in 2 weeks 😮…. did your 7:00 row along last week…. & now hoping to go mid 6:50’s. Thanks Cam for continuing the great content. I saw your GB trials video last week & was gutted for you…. but if you ever need motivation on what you’ve achieved, think about how small rowing is (in comparison to other sports) in this country….& then look at how many subs you have…. It’s an incredible achievement.
Thank You very much. Today I made my 2nd 2k test. Result 6:46.3. PR by 12sec. I'm 49 and started rowing 6 months ago. In a 2 months time i will try to go sub 6:40. Thanks again Cam
Have a 2k Tuesday, had the intention of trying to go sub 6:50 for the first time so this is perfect timing. Thanks for the vids they’re not only inspiring but helpful as well
I'm a very long way off ever making this sort of pace but I loved the video and am going to check out your other 2k follow along times. This is really great quality follow along rowing, I do lots of follow along training and will be looking out for more. Loved it!
Thank you! There's an 8, 7 and now this 6:50 minute 2k row along. A couple faster ones in the pipeline and then will eventually do between 7 and 8 minute row alongs. Hopefully you've found the other long lower intensity row alongs too!
Yes, being older and 5'4, 8 minutes is aspirational (but not impossible) 😂 I will have a look at more of your workouts, I've only watched your races and some of your training/prep before. Great coaching, really engaging and good for beginners and long time rowers too 👏
Thanks for the video, Cam. 6:50 is a nice target number you don't see as much on YT. Seems like it's usually either 7 minutes or something more in the competitive realm. This is much more attainable!
This is Awesome, i’m aiming for a sub 7:10 by the end of winter conditioning and a sub 7 2k by the end of spring season. currently coming back from an injury with my last (and fastest) 2k being a 7:18
I’m impressed you can talk through this (okay, it’s a minute slower than your normal!). Unfortunately even with the advertising chucked in by TH-cam, I’m massively the wrong side of 7 minutes (nearer to 8) - being an auld git doesn’t help! 😆 After the recent trials are you pushing on with your winter training and head racing? Ps: how is Yam?
I tried to make sure the adverts wouldn't show up during the workout. I hope they didn't! I'm sure you can still get a solid workout in regardless of your age! Currently training away but not any particular date or goal in mind for the short term. A change for me! I'm sure some rings will pop up though. Yam is doing great thank you!
Now that I definitely do! We finally after many years of hassling, got some coaching in our quad plus some video nastys😵 So many areas to address, so onwards and upwards 😎 Give my regards ti Yam - his sculling is probably better than mine 😆
Thanks for another great video, Cam. Great content, as usual! I’m newer to rowing and am pushing for a 7:00 goal over 2K. Have you had any experience rowing at altitude? I live at 1900m and wonder what effects I would see testing at lower elevation.
You’re very welcome! Good luck getting to 7 minutes! I have rowed at altitude and vlogged the experience! With the reduced oxygen you will feel a benefit at doing a test a sea level. The size of the benefit is quite dependent on the individual
Hey cam, as a young rower at a championship school in the UK your videos are always really inspirational and entertaining in equal measures, question though, I have a winter leave and after a 12 day training camp in Spain i have 3 weeks to absolutely yam it so i can make it to the first eight which would mean the world to me. have you got any advice training wise ? selection will probs be based on a 20@20 or a 5k erg. many thanks
I think I mentioned in this video will be sticking with even split as essentially the same rate is applied anyway, maybe apart from the end. 640 is doable though! 👀
Hi Cam, I am 63 yo and 6:50 is my target. I find it easier to row with drag 140 and lower spm. What is your opinion on that? Thanks for great videos. 👍
If you feel that works for you that’s great. Eating higher puts a little bit more pressure on you cardio wise so maybe your strong but cardio could do with work? Could also be technique related!
is it better have such a high S/M 32-33 ? I have S/M for this time at about only 28 but I did this distance just once this season as normaly I row just 10km and 21km
When I am pushing as hard as I can I will probably breath 2-3 times per stroke. Rating high doesn’t make you tired, tiredness comes from pushing harder. If you push the same at 20 spm and 30min it will be very difficult. Try holding a 2:30/500m at 20 spm and then 2:30/500m at a 30 spm. The strokes will feel much lighter at 30spm
Best thing for year 9 is just to get into training and have a program that has enough variation in it to keep them interested and consistent. I don't know if you'd be interested but I do write training programs. Let me know if you're interested
Is training at a higher rate something you would advise? I do a lot of my training at 18-22 and switch my pace/distance. Should I look at higher rate pieces and not necessarily be concerned about the pace?
compared to some recent footage of you on the water your back opens up a lot sooner on the machine...is that just due to getting a stronger catch in a boat whereas you're more likely to just rip it a bit more on the erg ?
@@CameronBuchanthanks I'm thinking perhaps of the following but in fairness it's clearly just slow warmup stuff but it has that classic "keep the angle of the back at the catch through the leg drive" kind of style which I think is a lot simpler when actually grabbing water as opposed to a c2 handle : th-cam.com/video/DErCobTM9pQ/w-d-xo.html
The resistance isn't like a normal machine, like a weights stack. I've made a few videos on the channel explaining it in more detail! Would recommend the same as I used in this video
I was at the 980m mark and an unskippable Home Depot ad popped up.
Truly, no worse feeling
A true disaster
Have only started rowing and erging properly at Uni since the beginning of September and did a 6:40 3 weeks ago, would love to see a 6:30 row along because that's the goal for the next few months!
Stay tuned 👀
Really great style of video. I'm a bit off that and blew up on a recent test. Impressive stuff and mad that could talk alongside doing it!
If this one is too much perhaps the 7 minute one might work for you 💪
That was a walk in the park for you Cam. Amazing! On a good day I break 7:50. But at 60 any day I can get a row In is a good day 🎉
Thats muy pb at 32 dude! Contrats for that!

Glad to be of help! Good luck at BRIC!
Yeah sometimes just have to put it into perspective a little
Thanks Cam! 6:50 is my next goal for the winter season after a 6:59.
Let's go! Let us know how you get on!
This is a good vid🎉
Sub 7 is hard enough as a lightweight but 6:49 is the challenge for this season !
That was enlightment for me. I’ve been suffering a lot to get under nine. Not any more! I’ll put my erg on sale and become a happy couch potato.
Everyone is on their own journey! Can get you signed up to the Yamsquad training program and get you under 9 💪 💪

Let’s goooo!!!!
Sounds like a great plan. Good luck and I hope to see a similar comment on the 6:40 video!
!Thanks for the upload during the winter season! #yamsquad keep it up!
I watched in awe, looks like you would'nt blow out a candle when finished 😀
half way threw my first season of rowing Cameron, you have been really helpful threw out the season thank you for making these videos have a good one.
Thanks Jack! Hopefully you're having some fun 💪 💪

Hey Cam, thanks a lot! I was one of the ppl asking for this on insta, awesome to see such a quick response!
Awesome! Glad you like it!
he's in really good shape having come off from training for the Olympic Trials, you can tell lol
Would love to be able to sustain 1:42. I'd be happy to go at 1:55, but nothing like aspirations!

had to do this recently as part of GB U19 early id and have no idea how you manage to continue speaking through the entire piece
I fmcan talk because this is a minute slower than my pb 👍🏻
@@CameronBuchan if I did a 6:45 at r24 what would you recommend as a respectable target for free rate around 30-32
@@blueninja3782definitely sub 640!
You’re a legend Cameron. Can we have a 6:30? ❤
👀
Bro just did a 2K in 6:50 while talking and was barely out of breath afterwards lmao
got an ad at the the 1k mark 😢 still PR'ed 💪
That’s not ideal! Well done on pushing through though 💪
Hi amazing video. Why do you aim for 555, 333 etc?
It breaks it up into smaller, more ma age ale chunks in your head. You can use any or no numbers! Whatever works for you.
Hey, could you do a 5:20 2k row along?
Yeah why not!
How do you stay motivated during the 2ks by yourself like how do you not stop when u get tired?
What’s also a good warmup before?
Using the tips I spoke about in the video!
I’d be happy with 8:00
Same here. @75
There's an 8 minute row along on the channel already 💪
Yes - but some of us have to get there first. Used to be able to, but @@CameronBuchan
au top !!
You make 32spm look like 20spm. That seemed effortless for you! O to be ever under 7minutes for a 2km!
Think I'll just do a 7:50 instead
Hopefully have workouts up between 8 and 6 mins eventually!
6:40 row along negative splitting
I think I mentioned in this video will be sticking with even split as essentially the same rate is applied anyway, maybe apart from the end. 640 is doable though! 👀

Generally a higher stroke rate can be better but it needs the technique I suit. Around 32-33 for a PB speed is about right for most!
Ciao sono riuscito a fare 2000 m 1:42.5 , per fare 2000 m tempo 6:29 , che drag avere e quanti colpi al minuto ? Grazie
Look out for the next 2k video!
How many breathes per stroke do Iu go for like what breathing technique do u do because I get too tired at high ratings
When I am pushing as hard as I can I will probably breath 2-3 times per stroke.
Rating high doesn’t make you tired, tiredness comes from pushing harder. If you push the same at 20 spm and 30min it will be very difficult.

@ like I’m going for a sub 6:50 but like I get tired while going at a 32 and I feel more tired going at a 32 than. 30
How tall are you ?
6 ft 9
Hey cam, what is your best advice for a year 9 kid trying to drop their 2k. Current is a 7:18 and trying to drop to 7:00 or below over winter season.
For longer lower intensity I'd say stick to the lower rate. For higher intensity work yes for sure, go higher 💪
compared to some recent footage of you on the water your back opens up a lot sooner on the machine...is that just due to getting a stronger catch in a boat whereas you're more likely to just rip it a bit more on the erg ?
I don't really see the difference. Could be that or because it's very light pressure
@@andyhall7032 yeah little different and will have been more pressure there than in this video, plus the lower rate! 😅
My best erg time is 7:45, what can i do to decrease it?
Lots of things! Biggest two will be improve technique and fitness
Hi Cameron - What drag do you use in training and in 2K races?
I mentioned it in the video 👍🏻 for this 2k was 130
Ups!...Thanks @@CameronBuchan
What shoes do you erg in?
what is the best split on 2k for the guy who have about 60 kg ?
Really depends on how fit the person is!
I think I need an eErg to match my eBike

I’m cooked
I made the the mistake of putting the level to 10 what would be reasonable time at this level?
