    As a 'senior' man she inspires me to never give up. I may no longer be 18 years old but my brain can still fabricate shots that exist when 'old school' serve and volley was played with wooden racquets. I salute her. Amazing tennis player!

      Yeah, made sure to watch her at Roland Garros. She is so emotionless during the match, almost seems angry. Does she have to be friendly? No. But I found myself liking the players who smiled, joked around, showed positive energy more, men and women. Even with Asian fans singing songs for her and chanting, she was just completely stone faced and kind of got aggro towards ball kids. Still, game wise, probably still my fave WTA player. In person, her shots have a surprising amount of weight, and get to their spots pretty fast.

      She doesn't hit a single shot early. Not one! She tries to hit it off the bounce. Her focus is timing because she doesn't have any mechanics to generate spin or pace. I think you are confused. Her admirable trait would be anticipation the next shot and deception in what she is going to do. Works on the WTA because they aren't dealing with heavy hit balls.

    • @ScobedRobed

      In badminton the correct term for 'lob' is lift and 'spike' is smash. But yes, drop shots are probably roughly 25% of all shots played, at least in singles, every inch of the court is used including net shots 2/3 inches from the net.

    To be able to hit an unorthodox shot, a player must be able to conceive it. Most modern players are developed to be baseline power players, and are constrained as such. Su wei's unconventional training and development helped fulfill her talent on the tennis court.

    • @pv4981
      @pv4981 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Her training is strokes are pretty conventional for an "Asian style" game. Asagoe, Peng, Tian Tian all have similar strokes and shot set up. Su Wei has skill but let's not act like she is the only player who does that. Bartoli does the double handed thing too...

  • @cambium0
    @cambium0 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    She is a special player. Doesn't worry about power but gets angles. It's all about angles and spin (and determined retrieving). she may hit cross court to ad when you are in deuce but she's not looking for the winner there--she's waiting until you are seriously out of position (and maybe a bit winded) then she's going to do a pin-point drop shot or lob or cross court and you're just going to watch it. If a player isn't thinking about hitting through their opponent but is just thinking hit it where they aren't ... their accuracy is going to be better. First thing she wants to do is get power players off their baseline perch and running. What's really interesting though is she is effective against excellent defensive players like Kerber and Wozniacki.

    It's tricky that there're a lot of shots from the match vs Kerber in AO 2018, but the German was the winner of the match. Same to the last shot from the match vs Andreescu. Anyway there's no doubt that Hsieh is an all-court player and she's always been so fun to watch.

      Her power is underrated, solid first serve and a very flat forehand. Also she can get so much power in that backhand, great strike

    • @Matthew9818
      @Matthew9818 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How To? . Hitting flat puts pace on the ball but no weight too it . Would be easy too hit back if you are there . But if it comes in too fast and in space that has been made before it is probably a winner .

    • @kcazzzzz
      @kcazzzzz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ilax3071 no, her serve game is terrible, needs improvement. she has played a lot of matches, and only have 21 aces so far, which really isn't very good. she is ranked outside top 40 when it comes to winning her serve game, and ranked 95 in terms of points won from 1st serve. she may have good slice technique, but lack of power means she can't hit those fast shots to score or set up points, and a bad serve game means she is less likely to hold her serve game, which is important since if you can win points from all your serves, you can never be beaten.
