  • In this video I show you how to silicone seal a gap between the skirting board and a tiled kitchen floor. This method is quick and easy, requires minimal tools, and leaves you with a professional look. The same method can be applied to most applications such as: around a bath, around a sink, around a shower tray, without the need for masking up.
    Ensure you have a finishing tool when smoothing over the silicone, this will ensure professional results, and will leave you with the least amount of mess to clear up.

    Thanks for the link to the silicone tools, I can usually get a nice run in and just smooth over with a wet finger but sometimes the gap is just to big

    Great job Justin,especially as it wasn't the same gap all the way round the skirting,there are a lot of videos out there that show how to silicone bust most of them are on a straight wall with a uniformed gap

    I would have found the biggest gap and then used a Fugi profile that was 3mm bigger all the way around. That would have provided a nice even size silicone joint all around. Another tip is to dip the Fugi into the water/Fairy prior to tooling. This will provide a perfect finish and any excess silicone can be cleaned very easy.

    I would put white trim instead. Much easier job and looks classy

    Have to admit I'd have been tempted to bang some scotia on that skirting instead 😉 Gap by the radiator was HUGE

      Yeah you're right, might have been a good idea, the bins go in that area so it all gets covered anyway 😁👍

    Great job but the soapy water isn't necessary when using profiling tools

    Hi Justin, Is it advised to use silicon to seal the gaps between the tile and skirting on floors with underfloor heating?

    Just a quick question about silicone. Would you use it around windows in the house or caulk and paint?

    • @JBTV
      @JBTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. It depends (always a good answer haha) Generally I'd use caulk, and then paint over it. If I'm using silicone I won't paint over it. For filling gaps between wall and skirting, and door frames, it has to be caulk. Think of using silicone as a finished product.... 👍

    This is such a great video, super helpful. Can I check, did you use the 45mm tool for all the finishing as there were uneven gaps?

    • @JBTV
      @JBTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much. Yes I did use the 45 all the way around 😁

    If u want to chamfer 15mm lines of caulks, will u first chamfer 8mm and then add silicone to chamfer 15mm? ie 2 rounds instead of one round to achieve solid fillings.

    For those edges of the floor, why not use liquid nails which will harden as cured so dirt and fungus can be easily cleaned, whereas the soft cured silicone will let them penetrate & become diff to remove. Have u ever thought of the pros & cons of using waterproof liquid nails paste over silicone??

    • @JBTV
      @JBTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience, liquid nails (as you call it) is not as smooth as sanitary silicone, and will actually be less easy to wipe any dirty spills off.

    • @samlau2852
      @samlau2852 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JBTV Thx for your point. I'm thinking of using waterproof liquid nails { SELLEYS Liquid Nails Rapid Cure polyurethane adhesive that cures in just 10 minutes , durable, }, so that it is an once & forever job to caulk & chamfer these edges +gaps especially on floor ones. Thickened bleach gel + tooth-brushing can then be applied to remove the fungal mould grown on hardened liq-nails every 2 months or so if any. In your case, u need to repeat in extra the 4-big-step job once every 2,3 or 5 years depending on whether the sealing power remains. My doubt about Liq-nails is whether the blue kit-5 formers can refine the finish as nice as the silicone case, do u have more experience to share on applying the blue kit-5 bits on refining the fresh caulking of quick cure & sticky adhesive paste in tubes similar to the silicone sealants? [Also I guess you mean "less easy to wipe off excessive or dirty spills even for fresh caulks let alone hardened caulks." ]

    Not a clue bud, Watching you apply that silicone is an insult to pro decorators I don’t know how you’ve got the front put these vids up you might know a bit of carpentry but you’ve a long way to go with the painting.
