  • Ned rig perch fishing - So this is the follow up to part 1. Where we left off, I'd had an hour trying to work out what they wanted. Then I finally winkled out a larger perch. We carry on where part 1 left off and its the very next cast. Have I found the method to catch the bigger perch or was it just a fluke?

    Recently caught a massive 4lb Perch on a Herakles Craw... Trailed slow along the bottom. Thought it was caught on a snag !

    I like how you constantly dispense good advice, and then feed in the bollox very gently :-)

      Woah there! That's the most important bit pal. I wouldn't have caught half the fish I have in my time if it wasn't for that. I learnt it years ago, in fact when I was just a nipper. Hearing a noise one day I went to investigate, where I found an old man fishing by the river calling out said words. I was amazed to see him catching fish and when I asked what bait he was using he showed me just a bare hook. I'll always remember that moment and it was a turning point in my fishing, when I finally started to catch fish and catch them consistently. If ever I am struggling to get a fish or two now I always think back to that old man and call out.....yeah I do feed in a load of bollox sometimes don't I.

    As always, a great and informative video. I've been watching many of your video's lately and after several years sabbatical whilst my son was boxing, I've decided to give lures more of a try. Had success with Pike & Perch using live baits, dead's fished sink and draw and popped up - but now want a crack at this. Keep up the good work!

      Nice one pal. Just get out, enjoy it all and catch a few fish. no pressure, its just good fun. Every now and again something magical happens, whether that's a big fish or a super take on the lures its all just ace.

    Great little series Paul, really enjoyed that mate.
    had a laugh watching the first one when you started talking about talking to yourself when fishing. I do that most of the time.. Usually a few choice words if things aren't going to plan lol!
    don't know if it's just me but I noticed a decent set of lips taking something off the surface at 3:23 lol!

      cheers Brian. Final part is next friday. Follows on nicely from these two and without giving too much away, its the next morning, same spot. Thought it was good to add as it's got some nice lessons in it.
      Eagle eye you pal. Lots of fish about in that spot and the perch are chasing stuff, there's also a lot of bleak on the surface and there's trout about.

    Some more nice fish from that swim. Your set up is about the same as I use for light jig fishing. Diawa med action rod and reel and braid. I always use a trace as the pike and pickrel make light work of fluorocarbon. After watching your vid last week I caught 2 decent perch on a small 3 in swim bait. You must have brought me luck, that's a rare catch for my waters.

    • @riverpiker
      @riverpiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perfect set up mate innit Post me some pickerel over i would love to catch some of those little guys. Glad i brought you some luck mate, hopefully the pike gods will pass on some luck to you from me too.

      @huntnfishnuts5880 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would send some over if I could. The canals and lakes here are loaded with pickerel there aggressive too. I am going to try some trolling some deep water for big pike and stripped bass as the water gets colder here. October is time to get back on the pike for sure. Tight lines to you and Ady

    Great vid Paul. Thanks. I had a bash on my local stretch of river with the TRD and caught some lovely stripies. Is that the 7foot version of that Sonik rod or 6ft 6? Cheers.

    • @riverpiker
      @riverpiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      cheers John. nice one with the ned session. I like my soft shads but the ned are a brilliant option to change it up a bit and I now take them everywhere i go. The sonik is the smaller 6ft 6 version.

    Mate, another quality vid. Massive fan of your channel as you know. 100 times more entertaining that the shite on the Telly. Forgive me if I'm being dumb, but what are you employing there to weigh down your landing net to prevent 25 fish slipping back in? I couldn't make it out in the vid. Should we now be renaming you the "River Percher"? ;)

    • @riverpiker
      @riverpiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do pal. Long extending handle on that net and it was wedged under some brambles off shot! lol Always got to improvise. I've used the lure bag a few times too in the past.

    Hi mate. I want to buy a Major Craft ARC-69SB rod for pike. What do you think about it?

    • @riverpiker
      @riverpiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know too much about it to be honest. I know some lure lads have enjoyed using the various Major craft rods. Had a look at this one and it looks like it would do a good job. go for it mate.

    Do you tend to concentrate on one particular area when you are fishing like you are in this video? I tend to do a lot of walking when I visit the canal, maybe I need to concentrate on one particular spot such as under bridges like yourself.

    • @riverpiker
      @riverpiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peter, its a bit of both pal. I was lucky that I went to the bridge, and it was full of fish. I might go again tomorrow and there not be any fish there at all. If the fish are there, keep fishing until you think that you have caught them all. If they are not there then you need to go find them. Part 3 will be good to watch too, which is this friday. Best thing you can do is start at a feature, or work towards a feature. Features like bridges, boats and locks often hold perch so always good to target them. Some bits of canal are totally devoid of any fish so no point staying there. hope all that helps mate.

    hi am new to your channel I have bin pike fishing for around a year and a half mabe 2 years an ano its still a bit worm to pike ano u can still catch but ive bin going out for the last month or so going out 4 to 5 times a week an I have had one jack aroud 3lb an that was erly in the month an for about 2 weeks I havent Evan had a follow do you now of absolutely eny thin I could try to just get a follow coz I know how to work my lures am like most pike anglers I have my favourite colours that am confident with but evry thin I do isent working any advice please Paul nice video keep it up

    • @riverpiker
      @riverpiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi matey and welcome. first thing to think about is, have you caught there before, have others caught? If it is getting a bit of pressure they can turn off and lures become a bit difficult so trying new lures or methods might be the key. fish the venue little but often so that lure sessions don't become hard work and no fun but also to give yourself a chance of just getting lucky and being there at the right time. But, all that said. Best advice you can do is get a change of scenery. Try somewhere new because who knows what you might find. A bit of new water keeps you on your toes and enjoying it rather than struggling. Its starting to cool now and and soon the fish will be moving to winter spots, which means if you find them the fishing can be really good. Keep at it mate. It's not always the easiest form of fishing. i have days where i cast and cast for nothing in return. Keep the faith pal, it;ll happen sometime soon!

      I have another canal similar to that nearby steve. Not easy to fish is it mate. Luckily we have some huge chunks of canal around that don't suffer so much
