    That model is a MASSIVE newborn! Ours is 92nd percentile and much smaller than that and we find that his face sits too low down in the carrier such that you can't get his face clear enough to be really confident that you're not restricting his airflow. Would love to see a video with an actual newborn sized baby!

      Thanks for your feedback. The demo doll used is a newborn doll size and is the average size of newborns I see at the shop each day.
      All babies vary in torso length. If your little one is sitting too low in the carrier, wear the waistband higher. This will shorten the panel height (as some of the fabric will sit between you and baby before coming up over their back).
      The higher the waistband is, the shorter the panel height will be.
      I hope that helps!

    Really appreciate the thoughtful approach and guidance for this baby carrier that I bought after consulting the video you composed. Especially acknowledge the safety aspects including considering optimal position for airway clearance. Thank-you to Roamy; Peter

    Thank you for the video, ideas very helpful. Do you have any tips about how to position the baby’s legs in the M shape?

      Glad the video was helpful. If you watch the video at 6:30 you'll see how to ensure their legs are in a comfy position, with knees tucked up above bottom. If you'd like to see this in more detail my video here shows this: th-cam.com/video/N4a4lCLzDhE/w-d-xo.html
      Hope that helps!

    Thanks, I was wondering what those little buttons did.
    I've got a small new born so wanted to make sure I had everything right.

      You're welcome. Glad it was helpful. With a small newborn you may find they're a bit little for it right away as it doesn't always fit small babies from day one. Make sure you do the safety checks as detailed on the video (so top edge of the carrier no higher than nape of baby's neck to ensure airways are clear, baby held secure so they can't slump). If you want to double check anything in person I offer video-call consultations. Details on www.roamyhuntconsultancy.co.uk

    Great video very detailed of every aspect for baby and parent comfort! One thing I found is that my 3 month old who is quite tall for his age is that his face keeps rubbing on the top buckles. I'm using the infant zipper and the lumbar support strap is just above my waist. Am I doing something wrong for a baby of his size?

    • @SouthEastSlings
      @SouthEastSlings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your kind feedback. It sounds like the waistband may be a little high on you (but will depend how tall you are - if you are very tall then just above waist will be ok). If you adjust the strap that goes horizontally across your back, this will adjust how wide the straps sit on your shoulders. If you make it a little wider this will bring the clips further away from his face. You may also find the Baby Bjorn Harmony Teething Bib useful. This covers the buckles so there’s nothing to rub against. Hope that helps!

    At what point should you undo the newborn zipper? The manual doesn’t indicate a weight or height limit. My two month old is very large for his age!

    • @SouthEastSlings
      @SouthEastSlings  ปีที่แล้ว

      It very much depends on the torso length of the baby but I usually find people need to move to it at around 4-6 months old.
      Until baby has full head control you want the top edge of the carrier to be no higher than the nape of baby's neck. Once they have full head control - usually around 3-4 months old) the top edge of the carrier can sit between their armpits (with baby's arms over the top of the carrier) and the nape of their neck.
      There are a couple of different height settings you can popper the front flap onto when they're in the newborn setting. So, as they grow, you set that higher.
      Then - when baby is too tall to fit in the newborn setting to the nape of neck (or armpits, if they've got full head control) you undo the zip. You may need to put the waistband a bit higher to begin with, to shorten the carrier panel height.
      Hope that helps!

    Don't know if too late to ask but the zippers by legs... so they stay unzipped for smaller babies and zipped for bigger? Instructions in book when I bought it were somewhat confusing. Sounded like it was supposed to be zipped for smaller. Just trying to make sure I do it right to get the M position to keep his hips in correct position

    • @SouthEastSlings
      @SouthEastSlings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks got your question. You want to ensure the carrier supports baby from one knee to the other, bottom below knees, so their lower legs hang freely. This is commonly called the M position.
      When they are newborn until around 3-4 months old their knees will be tucked up at hip width. As they get older their muscles will develop and their knees will start spread wider.
      The zip on the carrier is designed to make the carrier wider as their legs grow.
      For a new, newborn their legs may be short enough that they don’t reach as far as the zipper, so if the zip was on the wider setting it may not affect anything.
      However as soon as their legs get longer it’s important not to have the carrier putting any pressure under their feet, or over-extending their legs.
      Because of this it’s generally easiest to have it unzipped from newborn, until it needs to go wider to support their thighs.
      For facing outwards you always have the zip in the narrow position, to allow baby’s legs to go forwards in a seated position.
      Hope that helps!

    Do they ship to South Africa??

    • @SouthEastSlings
      @SouthEastSlings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would imagine there would be South African retailers of Baby Bjorn. If there aren't, I can check with Baby Bjorn if I am permitted to sell to South Africa (different manufacturers have different 'rules' as to which countries you can sell to)
