As a Vertigo Swirl collector I know the thrill it means to find that special, rare album on the label. Many congratulations, it was a fair price! I spent the same for my copy, only that was more than 6 years ago… I have now got every UK swirl except Dr. Z (I have the Italian pressing) and Aphrodite’s Child. Love your videos! 👏🏻
Class that he’s looking for Anvil. They’re not my cup of tea personally, but if you’ve not seen it (I’m sure you have) - Anvil: The Story of Anvil is one of the best music documentaries I’ve ever seen, worth a watch for anyone who’s even remotely interested in music. Just discovered your channel by the way mate, loving it, looking forward to more!
@@notfamouschristopher , I am probably older then the bloke in the video and I feel ill when I see people do that. When I gave some of my collection to my son the first thing I showed him was how to remove a record without touching the playing surface.
One of my favorit Swirls and one of the best covers ever. Cool to see this deal being filmed. I also have a Tudor Lodge, bought for roughly the same price, but that was 6-8 years ago. Congrats to a fantastic album!
Great find. Two years ago I was next in line to look at a box of records at a boot sale & the guy in front of me got a swirl Tudor Lodge for…50p! I almost vomited.
I got Jan Dukes de Grey Mice and Rats for £1 a few years ago at a boot sale, so it can happen. It's sickening when someone in front of you gets the bargains. I also got both Trees albums, Ultimate Spinach Behold and See and two toploader White albums, along with Black Sabbath 1 on swirl for £1 at boot sales. That doesn't happen any more.
I was in a record shop in Glasgow in1980 , and saw a copy of Kaleidoscope's , Faintly Blowing , a Fontana original , NO watermark....and in mint condition...and I passed on it , as I'd heard some other so called obscure psychy uk lps that came out circa 1969/1970 , that didn't impress me. Then I heard a copy a chum had bought , sleeveless , at a market in Glasgow for £0.90. , a short while after I saw the copy I originally spotted. After hearing it , I freaked that I'd passed on the copy I saw....of course when I went back to the shop , it had long been snapped up. How much was the copy I saw , complete with it's fold out cover ? £0.50. it's stuck in my craw ever since. I've had other rarities I picked up back then , like the Arcadium , Breath Awhile LP , which I thought was awful , and sold it for next to nothing...if only I'd held onto it a few more decades ! Also had the first ? Raw Material LP , on the Neon label....bought for 0.50p....again , it didn't impress me. I never set about buying records for how they would perform on future auction sites , so , innocently just let them go for whatever I could get for them , or swap them for other vinyl. However , if I'd had any notion of the exorbitant values that records that I'd picked up for buttons and didn't like would fetch in future , I'd have been more wary about letting them go ! They could have been used to swap against overpriced records I'd subsequently be after. At the end of the day , it's the music , and liking what you hear , that counts. The Five Hours Back repress from 1986 of Kaleidoscope's, Faintly Blowing , albeit it's just on a single non fold out sleeve , sounds fantastic....I can't tell the difference between it and the Fontana label issue (which I scrutinised when I heard a pressing).
Glad you found something you have been looking for in the wild. I checked out that album on TH-cam and have to say it nearly put me to sleep, but that is just me. I am sure they have their fanbase. Have fun with your new collectible!
Thanks Jake and Papa Dave for pointing out this place as only ten mins from my work and never knew existed!😂 You can’t beat feeling of a grail find and that looks a fair price based on fact a copy in similar condition currently on eBay at four times what you paid. Cheers both!😊
I paid about $800 for a copy of Orange Juice's Falling and Laughing, which only had a run of about 1000 copies. It also had the extra postcard and flexi that came with it. The Postcard was only included with 200 out of the 1000 copies.
£200 for a 1st pressing of Rattus Norvigicus..Thank you very much for the film..Really good..I might well try and get a train to Birmingham next year..Best Wishes to All xxx
I'm from the USA I'm a Shinedown fan they were named best mainstream rock band of Billboards 40 years. Their album The SOM. went Platinum and they released a deluxe edition on vinyl only 500 worldwide. I bought it for 200.00 on Discogs and last year it was over 500.00 used and US couldn't get it. My copy is still sealed. Ever come across it grab it that album came out in 09 or 2010 and has never been reissued.
Never spent more than £100. I have my late father in law's records and manage to rescue an original pressing (blue triangle) copy of Darkside of the moon (with all the posters) from being taken to the charity shop. That now goes for silly money.
You have done well. I paid $100 Australian just for the sleeve of AC/DC Dirty Deeds, the parrot tattoo issue not the weird one with people outside a motel. I got a mint condition (1976) record in a collection and the seller of the sleeve had her record stolen at a party.
What did this tudor lodge grade? £400 seems very reasonable. Living in Ireland and Swordfish records along with the diskery in Birmingham are 2 of my regular stops when in the UK. The most ive ever spent on one record is €700 for a copy of Thin Lizzy's first single the Farmer, which i think would go for 2-3k if sold online.
I'm cracking up at how you didn't want to hear it before buying it. That absolutely sounds like something I would do. But yeah, even seeing a copy of Tudor Lodge in person is a big deal. Congratulations on buying it! I would be so nervous transporting that bag home.
Hello Jake, Wow, incredible Vertigo Swirl find! Next to Dr. Z, Tudor Lodge is the rarest Swirl pressing. Unbelievable that you have finally found this great record! I am so happy for you that you have found such a great Swirl record! Best wishes, Julian
I put this on Spotify- Tudor Lodge are right up my street; you would like Sandy Denny when in Fairport Convention - Meet on the Ledge, What We Did on Our Holidays etc
Wow respect to you Jake ! It’s a lovely record musically too ! But too pricey for me but i have an akarma reissue which isnt in the same league but i still love the album anyway! looking forward to the next video!!
Awesome find! I found an original firstpress copy of Mr. Bungle’s Disco Volante with the 7’’ from 1995 at my local craigslist. I spent £125 for it and it’s my most treasured record in my collection. Already own 3 other copies of the same album aswell since i can’t get enough of it haha
And so it begins…you slowly expand your vinyl hunting grounds. Now you’ve broken the 100 miles distance barrier, you won’t think much of it going further and further and before you know it you’ll be travelling to fairs abroad and even incorporating visiting record shops on your holidays. 😊
Great video seeing you capture a Holy Grail..Looks a fantastic copy to get too..well done. As for how much ive spent on a single vinyl purchase-i bought an original French Only release of a 4 Track EP by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band..cost me £225.00...was worth every penny imo 👍
My biggest purchase was the first Pentagram album from 1985. $270.00. I bid on it expecting to lose. When I won I was like uh oh! But in the end I'm very proud to have it. Most importantly, the music is just staggeringly great metal. The reason it's so much is because EVERY re-issue ever made to this very day.....is a different and NOT AS GOOD....mix! No kidding. Now it's worth about $400.00. N
I’ve sold off most of my rare titles like a 1970 Charles Mason LIE, a 1st mono Bill Evan’s Sunday at Village Vanguard, and a Townes Van Zandt s/t on Poppy. I don’t have too many rare ones now, a few, but not many. The most I’ve spent on a record is $125 (USD) plus shipping and tax for Paul Pena’s self titled masterpiece. I’m debating picking up a British pop-psych gem but it’s not cheap. Congrats on the grail.
I don't have any serious grails for the music. I collect hit albums and there are a few that I'm not keen on that should be in the collection at some point because of their hit status (Led Zep, blue-triangle Dark Side etc.), but as far as the real favourite music, it's rock 'n' roll (so 1961 is modern by those standards!). I have debut and early albums by Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Everly Brothers, Chuck Berry. The 2 most expensive in that collection were Sound of Fury (Billy Fury, £80) and Elvis 2 (£125), and Elvis' UK debut, £75 in 3rd. I'd happily spend more if needed, but the market doesn't demand it and is declining.
@@JohnBlutarski I heard that 20 years ago, and bought my copies around 10 years ago. I'm not sure it's true. A quick look at Discogs' offers, yes you can get them cheaper tthan mine, but only in poorer condition. The ones in better condition (also as at the time I bought them) are much more expensive. What does seem to have happened is that my middle-ground compromise is no longer available. It's either trashed or expensive now, no reasonable condition or price: you have to comprimise on one or the other, not both as I was able to do.
Always a great video! I have to check out Tudor Lodge. I never bothered to check it out, but I will. Now, the most I spend on records is down below. The copies I bought are all in VG+ condition. Pentagram's debut is like closer to NM. Pentagram - S/T (1985, Pentagram, US) - £395 Day of Reckoning (1987, Napalm, US) - £158 (Bought it from a Discogs seller in Brazil. I had sweaty hands for three weeks waiting for it haha) Culpeper's Orchard - S/T (1971, Polydor, DK) - £156 Hair - Piece (1970, Parlophone, DK) - £123 (The fuzz is nice on that one!) Check out Culpeper's Orchard! Danish heavy progressive rock with a folk flavoured sound. They had a British vocalist named Cy Nicklin. That album could've fitted right in with the other Vertigo releases.
Did you listen to it yet? It's kinda wild . Some sounds a little 'lawrence welk' and other tracks like Fairport convention. The engineer seemed to like jamming half the band into the left channel and the other half in right. Madeline is nice instrumental. Thanks for introducing this album to me. Will stream it again.
I was fortunate enough about 5 years ago picking up a Tudor Lodge swirl at a ramshackle shop for..........£5!!! Obviously I sold it on for max profit and to fund other buys.
I've spent $110 on a Charles Manson 87 second print and I paid $125 on an original of Mephistofeles - Whore. Cool find gents. Greetings from across the pond 👍💯🤘👋
25 bucks for zep alpha omega bootleg most expensive was tool fear innoculum Ltd edition 5 disc copy its gorgeous I have the beatles first canadian issue of beatlemania 14 tracks from 63 and wings over americe and the white album white vinyl copy
Bloody hell, that price isn't too shabby at all! The most I've spent on one record is £280, but it was a one of a kind test press, so I think that says enough! I've never gone over £150 since, and even then it's only a few times, but I'm very glad to see you cross one off the vinyl collecting bucket list!
There is one at Tasty Records In Altrincham. Not sure about the condition but their asking price is £1,200. They are open to offers though apparently :)
Bought Led Zeppelin tourqouse and the one with the miscredit a few years ago for about 800 quid both in lovely condition. Just bought the May Blitz lp on Vertigo for 89 quid in nice condition as well. Went to Scotland a couple of years ago on honeymoon .Purchased. Bakerloo , Spontaneous Combustion both on Harvest plus the Hokus Poke lp on Vertigo all for 200 quid .
dang congrats on the Tudor Lodge one of my fave folk bands also saw some other gems i love in there Atomic Rooster,Caravan,The Flock and Stray the most i ever paid for a record was an original vertigo swirl still sealed Gravy Train - second birth was 300$ in shop but got the deal for 200$ and i did open it cause i'm crazy about Gravy Train lol
700$ for an unopened copy of KISS THE ORIGINALS, What 🤷♂️….. ime a die hard fan. My holy grail. And that was 8 years ago. Great content , keep it up. 👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🎶🎶🎶
For such an iconic rarity that's not bad at all. I was looking at discogs the other day and I've got an original Ween LP that goes for almost as much 🤷♀️
I’ve got a 1971 vinyl album Tonton Macoute(NE4) & 1972 vinyl album by a Ray Russell band The Running Man on RCA Neon(NE11). I’m led to believe they’re worth a bob or two…… Couple of Hard Stuff 72 & 73 albums on Purple as well. GC. I’d’ve thought they’re pretty rare as well, I dunno…..
Tonton Macoute's album is one of the medium rare records on Neon. Decent copies are still pretty costly though. The Running Man on the other hand, the last l.p. released on Neon, is quite possibly the rarest of them all. Its definately one of the Big ones for label completists.
I have a large number of 1980's 'metal' vinyl albums, 12 inch singles, 7 inch singles and many picture disks. They're no longer needed. How can I sell them as single or as a whole collection without being ripped off. I do know many are rare and valuable.
You guys had a quick laugh about Sammy Hagar albums I just want to point out that in this internet social media age where civilians know about who the artists are as people, Sammy is one of greatest souls to ever continue to rock n roll
I've never been able to afford most records I would want - but I did drop $60 on a really nice promo pressing of Ozzy's No Rest for the Wicked, and I found a promo copy of Powermad - Absolute Power the was in really good condition for under $20 which is a rare find
As much as I LOVE the predominance of the Vertigo label, 'Tudor Lodge' just isn't one I ever enjoyed that much, so could no way justify spending that on a copy. As an artifact, it's rare as hell, but as music, it's not worth it. ONLY IMO :) Enjoy your new purchase tho!
I read the news today, four thound holy grails in Lancashire, although some holy grails were small, they have worked out how many holy grails it takes to fill the house of lords.
I never really wanted to spend more than €50 on a record, but I absolutely had to own an original pressing of Reign in Blood. I think €100 was a fair price back then. Nowadays it is worth significantly more.
I have all of Slayer's original pressings. All in Mint condition because I record my albums to Chrome or Metal tapes using my high-end Nakamichi or Pioneer Elite Reference deck on the first play then put them away for safe keeping and never play them again except on the cassettes. Maybe my wife will sell them for cheap when I die. LOL.
Hey Jake you remember in the video with Chase ,where he said he was getting in dub and you was not sure what that was, most of the tunes in background was some good dub, try sometime you might like .
I bought Dr Z Three parts.......for £0.50p in a Newcastle second hand shop in the 70's and later sold it for £150. I obviously wish I'd kept it. And I won't mention the May Blitz that I gave away for peanuts.
As a Vertigo Swirl collector I know the thrill it means to find that special, rare album on the label. Many congratulations, it was a fair price! I spent the same for my copy, only that was more than 6 years ago…
I have now got every UK swirl except Dr. Z (I have the Italian pressing) and Aphrodite’s Child.

An Italian Dr Z is still a grail in my book!
I think the rarest one must be Jim Croce Life And Times (1973). You seldom see it.

Ian Carr's Belladonna was on Vertigo. It's a great album!
..people who are obsessed with ownership ,way over an understanding and appreciation of music....stupid prices too.
I spent $5500 for a sealed 1983 UK The Beatles ‘Sgt. Pepper’ Nimbus Supercut stereo LP. Thanks Mr Stickermania
My God.
And what happened to it? Did you play it? Did you keep it sealed?
@ Sold the album sealed for 7K. Mr Stickermania
@@Stickermania2853That was a great sell, then!
The most I’ve spent was €165,- for Opeth - Live at The Royal Albert Hall 4 lp boxset
Can imagine how cheesin you were to get that Jake. A true rarity.
most paid was a 78 Robert Johnson Dust My Broom E-/E+ 5,200 US, Second place 78 Charley Patton V Down the Dirt Road 3,500 USD
There is one at Tasty Records In Altrincham. Not sure about the condition but their asking price is £1,200. They are open to offers though apparently :)
Saturday Morning Rush by Earl Zinger... for all you mad collectors
What is the music playing during your honr dialouge?

Nice price..lucky i found and bought a mint copy in L.A. last year..paid twice what you did
700$ for an unopened copy of KISS THE ORIGINALS, What 🤷♂️….. ime a die hard fan. My holy grail. And that was 8 years ago. Great content , keep it up. 👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🎶🎶🎶
In 1999 i bought the Velvet Underground & Nico 7“ All Tomorrow‘s Parties
For 550$, a lot of money that time! But worth, i love till
I have a Tudor Lodge vinyl reissue on the ZAPP label. What did you think of the album.
For such an iconic rarity that's not bad at all. I was looking at discogs the other day and I've got an original Ween LP that goes for almost as much 🤷♀️
TUDOR LODGE 🖤
I’ve got a 1971 vinyl album Tonton Macoute(NE4) & 1972 vinyl album by a Ray Russell band The Running Man on RCA Neon(NE11). I’m led to believe they’re worth a bob or two……
Couple of Hard Stuff 72 & 73 albums on Purple as well.
OMG! 😱 That is crazy…
Most I’ve ever paid for a vinyl album is £30
Mostly that I paid was Jethro Tull Benefit first English press 70 euro.
I was halfway through the video when I realised I've been to this shop before it's a great shop and I got my sgt pepper from there
I have a large number of 1980's 'metal' vinyl albums, 12 inch singles, 7 inch singles and many picture disks. They're no longer needed. How can I sell them as single or as a whole collection without being ripped off. I do know many are rare and valuable.
discogs
Bloke I used to know a few yrs back found found quite a few of that labels releases in a charity shop ,he made a small fortune when he sold it
Ive never seen the original Tudor Lodge and probably never will 😄
You guys had a quick laugh about Sammy Hagar albums I just want to point out that in this internet social media age where civilians know about who the artists are as people, Sammy is one of greatest souls to ever continue to rock n roll
Sammy's 3 lock box album and tour was fantastic! But I must confess I hate van Halen with sammy!!!!! But montrose is the shizz
Nearly fell off the couch when you revealed the price!! But as we all know the vinyl addiction can be expensive 😂
Plus his solo albums rock a lot harder than his stuff with Van Halen.
@@seed_drill7135also : Montrose !!!!
I didn’t like VH with Sammy in it, but as someone else said, Montrose, whoa, that first album for eg, is brilliant (and my fave album with Sammy on)
I've never been able to afford most records I would want - but I did drop $60 on a really nice promo pressing of Ozzy's No Rest for the Wicked, and I found a promo copy of Powermad - Absolute Power the was in really good condition for under $20 which is a rare find
I have an original Damnation. Double vinyl.
Hey man loved your video I love psychedelic rock can you recommend any bands to me something with strong vocals and strong psych
I just found a jewel in my collection. Megadeth, killing is my business, first pressing in mint, unplayed condition. Payed $500
Great video.
Albert Hall?
17:04 the goods
I never really wanted to spend more than €50 on a record, but I absolutely had to own an original pressing of Reign in Blood.
I think €100 was a fair price back then. Nowadays it is worth significantly more.
I have all of Slayer's original pressings. All in Mint condition because I record my albums to Chrome or Metal tapes using my high-end Nakamichi or Pioneer Elite Reference deck on the first play then put them away for safe keeping and never play them again except on the cassettes. Maybe my wife will sell them for cheap when I die. LOL.
@@AudioGuyBrian she will do :)
Hey Jake you remember in the video with Chase ,where he said he was getting in dub and you was not sure what that was, most of the tunes in background was some good dub, try sometime you might like .
Walked all around a copy of Leaf Hound: Growers of Mushrooms and never even touched it... The shame! :(
I bought Dr Z Three parts.......for £0.50p in a Newcastle second hand shop in the 70's and later sold it for £150. I obviously wish I'd kept it. And I won't mention the May Blitz that I gave away for peanuts.
I'd have taken that Jade Warrior for £15. Last one of the Island era LPs I don't have yet.
I just paid 400 pounds for a NM purple vinyl Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream!
