I was drooling over screenshots of Arabian Fight in some gaming magazine in the early 90s. My family went to Las Vegas the next summer and they had it in the Excalibur arcade! I was like 11 or 12 and blew all of my very generous amount of tokens on it in about an hour 😂 and then just creeped on other people playing it.
The slow, tranquil walk of the soldier in Spinal Breakers is kind of chilling. Imagine icing all those dudes while doing a leisurely walk like you're at the botanical gardens.
Arabian Fight looks crazy. The transitions between background, foreground, and extreme foreground are great to look at. I could have seen myself spending a lot of time on Slipstream, especially if there was a time trial mode.
SNES port? I'm surprised that Arabian Fight didn't get a Saturn port; a few looks at Guardian Heroes, and you can tell there was missed opportunity there.
man i know im late to the party but watching that arabian fight it was well before its time. even with the graphics it has now i could easily see that being a new indie darling on steam and nintendo switch. especially now that anime is alot more popular. that is some quality gameplay/visual effects.
A great watch as always, but kinda stretching the boundaries of the timeline for the SNES a bit. Temple of Doom got an NES port, and it would have super weird to re-release such an old (and not super great) arcade game so many years later on SNES. Cyberbots of course came out on Playstation and Saturn, and while I suppose we could have gotten a Street Fighter Alpha 2 style release on SNES, it would have been so heavily compromised that it's hard to imagine what it might look like.
I grew up in Los Angeles, and while I lived in arcades growing up, I'm still amazed how many games I never knew about, as LA had tons of amazing arcades. Arabian Fight was one of those rare games I did see at some point, and yeah, it was pretty amazing graphically. Cyberbots I never knew about, but did discover it years later when I imported it for the Sega Saturn. Another great vid, keep em coming.
Im from Oxnard and I remember going to the Galleria mall in Sherman Oaks and my mind was blown at the size of the arcade there. First and only time I played Captain America and the Avengers in the arcade.
The game it was a spin-off of, Armored Warriors, is better. That's the best beat em up ever made, or at least it's in the argument for it, along with things like The Punisher and Alien vs Predator and The Simpsons. The amount of gameplay variety is insane because every character plays and looks completely different, and you can kill enemies and then pick up their weapons and attach them to your mech to completely change how your character plays. It's such a great idea. A one-on-one fighter is a good idea, for sure, and it'd be amazing if they made a new one today, a new Cyberbots 1-on-1 fighter which was properly balanced and so on. Cos that's the problem with the original, it's crazy chaotic fun, but it's not good as an actual fighting game, it's not something you'd ever see at EVO for example, except maybe in their jokes categories where they deliberately play broken games cos it's funny.
Ijust caught up on this entire series, and I thought part 6 was the last - so glad I saw this one! I recently got into MAME emulation and some of these have been FANTASTIC. I would love more of these videos. I love your channel!
I'm from Brazil and sadly I've never found a Slip Stream cabinet in my whole life. Actually I haven't known it since a couple of months ago. It's funny that Virtua Racing with its polygons was so cutting edge for its time but a game like this went completely under the radar, and it's got some awesome presentation
I always love these videos, but you really found some obscure stuff this time! Spinal Breakers looks like the kind of dumb game that would still be fun to just grind through on a dull afternoon. Slip Stream seems like the height of obscure, released where it was and not only that, looking like a damn good racer, too. But Arabian Fights! Whoa! Back in the day seeing something like that would have melted my mind! I mean the sprite scaling looks just awesome, and the full on anime look when at the closest looked amazing! Hats off to you for these incredible finds!

Yeah it almost looks 3D, impressive. There was some sprite scaler racing game (motocross or something I think) on GBA which also looked almost 3D, can't remember the name though.
The only giveaway is that it still can't do turns as sharp as you could with full 3D, which is quite obvious when you're familiar with the tracks used (real life F1 tracks).
That Indiana Jones looks like a visually improved version of the NES Temple of Doom. Although you only had to get all the children on level 10... which they didn't explicitly tell you.
There was a Temple of Doom Cabinet in one of our local Pizza Shops growing up. I was around 10 or 11 when it was there. I absolutely loved it, that cabinet had some real loud sound.
Cyberbots was in an arcade at Carowinds when I was in high school, and I absolutely LOVED it. Could not believe how good it was. I spent so much on that one cabinet.
The problem with coin-op arcade games like this is you essentially have a Game Genie; There's no challenge since you have infinite quarters. What I'd LOVE to see is if someone did a project where they take arcade ROMs, get rid of the flashing "insert coin" messages and give you a limited number of lives and continues, better replicating a home console experience.

Some recommendations include: - Marvel Infinity War - Justice League Legacy - TMNT: Rescue-Palooza (wanna say the team that made Shredder’s Revenge worked on this one, but don’t quote me on that lol) - Dungeons and Dragons: The Animated Series - He-Man One of the really cool things about the Marvel, JL and D&D ones is that the developer, Zvitor, is constantly updating the games with new content and move updates, so even if you’ve played through the campaign before, you’ll always be able to experience something new and cool with each update! Kengo / Lightning Swords looks outstanding. Like a piece of art. Hagane gave me that feeling the first time I saw gameplay also. Some of the set pieces are just jaw dropping. Though this game looks like a hybrid between Irem's own Ninja Spirit combined with Revenge of Shinobi. Thanks for introducing me to this game!
I must have played or seen the arcade cabinet as a child, because the rock guy at 3:16 featured heavily in my schoolbook doodles for a while. I can't remember anything else about the game, but he made a lasting impression.
Temple of Doom is one of my favorite arcades. I have the NES version but it's quite a bit different from the arcade. The SNES could have done an arcade perfect conversion.

When you referenced Guts' sword for Dragoon Might it hit me that in the late 90's through early 00's we westerners would have probably referred to giant, oversized swords more regularly as "Cloud's sword" or a "Buster Sword" or a "Final Fantasy Sword" since the first mass media exposure to an oversized sword for most in the US and the rest of the west was FF7. I guess it goes to show that we have truly culturally evolved at least a little bit that we properly categorize these references to their actual origin point of Berserk these days.
For anybody curious, Ken-Go is basically a more arcade-y Ninja Spirit. Both made by Irem, similar music and game play. You can almost say it's a prequel to Ken-Go. Ninja Spirit is considerably more difficult though, and came out in '88, and Ken-Go in '91
We used to play that Indiana Jones arcade game at this one restaurant we'd go to. "I'm not leaving without the stones" was a funny line that was said all the time.
I had a favorite back in the day. It was a side scrolling game of Willow. The first Willow game for the NES was similar to Zelda in many ways. If you want to play this version, you need an arcade emulator. It lets you play several different characters.

"Spinal Breakers" is most notable for having multiple possible endings, the "bad" ones involving either the hero ("Waffle"- snerk!) or his family being infected by the zombie-android-things before he can return to safety. Mostly tripped by failing to complete levels within their time limits, I believe. ("Curse my leaden legs, if only I had strafed faster!")
Not a patriotic person by any measure but was cool hearing SnesDrunk mentioning Chile haha. Lots of cool looking games here. I knew about Cyberbots just because of the cameos they had on Tatsunoko vs Capcom! Like a niche game reference inside a niche game! Great series, always finding new games to play anyway I can!

The local bowling alley we had in my town ~30 years ago had Indiana Jones, but it was a left handed version (the joystick was on the right while the buttons were on the left). Only time I'd ever seen that.
The beset thing about Spinal Breakers, though, is that the hero's name is Captain Waffle. And just in case you were tempted to think that this was a mistranslation, you can get actual waffles as powerups.
I grew up poor so renting games was rare and going to an arcade was even rarer still. This channel has really shown me what I missed out on all those years ago.
I've always wondered why we never got ANY kind of home port of Golden Axe - The Revenge of Death Adder for any home consoles at all back in the day. It was immensely popular, and you figure that the 32 bit systems out in the mid 90's would be able to handle a decent port.
The lackadaisical, casual stride the guy from Spinal Breakers uses is absolutely hilarious and definitely would've been a running joke with my brother and I had we played it. Also, I appreciated your Space Mutiny reference.
Great video as always, but please can you put a warning if there's going to be full screen flashing like at the end of the Arabian Fight section. For those of us who have only very mild problems, everything is totally fine except for full screen flashing effects, but just that is a real issue. Ty and please never stop making these videos!
I used to play Temple of Doom all the time on the Commodore 64. 3:41 The sign says 少林寺, "Shaolin Temple". 6:09 Cyberbots was ported to the Sega Saturn and enhanced with extra playable characters and voices during the cut scenes. There is even a robot version Gouki (A.K.A. Akuma) in there.
I can understand Temple of Doom not getting a SNES port. It got a bunch of other ports like on the NES and is quite old compared to when the SNES came out. Plus, it's a licensed game and those licenses don't last forever.

Slipstream looks like it has official tracks! I mean, I've been playing Gran Turismo 7 recently so that's my point of reference :P But seeing the FOSTERS beer logo brings back memories!
Spinal Breakers is mishmash of different content they wanted to use, the enemies are all allegedly androids gone haywire... And 7:49 that's necklace of prayer beads, Suiko is a monk.
I'm only seeing one comment about this, but just FYI, while that Temple of Doom game may not have gotten a SNES port, it actually did get an NES port from Tengen. Scaled down considerably, but nonetheless -- SNES users may have missed out, but NES users didn't... entirely.

Considering that the NES Temple of Doom game was a Tengen release (in other words, Atari) it probably is a visually improved version.

Slip Stream was available in Argentina too! I even remember playing it once or twice back in my childhood. Good memories.
I loved that Indian Jones game. The voice samples & music in that game were mind blowing at the time & i put hundreds of quarters into that game!
Slipstream looks awesome. So does the Robot fighting one. Actually most of them looked pretty fantastic. Great video.
Aw man, that classic Texas Instruments voice synthesizer doing the "ooooh" and "aghhhhhh" sounds in Indiana Jones sounds like Hank Hill to me lol

The local bowling alley we had in my town ~30 years ago had Indiana Jones, but it was a left handed version (the joystick was on the right while the buttons were on the left). Only time I'd ever seen that.
Surprise Attack is a masterpiece. It's the evolution of Rolling Thunder and Shinobi, adding a bit of Metal Storm to make the gameplay more complex.
The beset thing about Spinal Breakers, though, is that the hero's name is Captain Waffle. And just in case you were tempted to think that this was a mistranslation, you can get actual waffles as powerups.

I grew up poor so renting games was rare and going to an arcade was even rarer still. This channel has really shown me what I missed out on all those years ago.
I've always wondered why we never got ANY kind of home port of Golden Axe - The Revenge of Death Adder for any home consoles at all back in the day. It was immensely popular, and you figure that the 32 bit systems out in the mid 90's would be able to handle a decent port.
The lackadaisical, casual stride the guy from Spinal Breakers uses is absolutely hilarious and definitely would've been a running joke with my brother and I had we played it. Also, I appreciated your Space Mutiny reference.
Great video as always, but please can you put a warning if there's going to be full screen flashing like at the end of the Arabian Fight section. For those of us who have only very mild problems, everything is totally fine except for full screen flashing effects, but just that is a real issue. Ty and please never stop making these videos!

6:09 Cyberbots was ported to the Sega Saturn and enhanced with extra playable characters and voices during the cut scenes. There is even a robot version Gouki (A.K.A. Akuma) in there.
Omg! I miss playing Bomberman with homies SO MUCH. I wish Hudson Soft release an online Bomberman game. It would be so nice to play it.
Ken-go would have looked perfectly at home on the Genesis. Big sprites, lots of enemies and explosions, more slow paced platforming.
Yeah that one could definitely have seen a port for Mega Drive/Genesis due to the fast CPU. A missed opportunity.
That Spinal Breakers one looks interesting. Definitely never seen that in the wild
I can understand Temple of Doom not getting a SNES port. It got a bunch of other ports like on the NES and is quite old compared to when the SNES came out. Plus, it's a licensed game and those licenses don't last forever.

So many good titles never saw a home version, would have loved to see a Simpsons or AVP port back in the day.
I like how in Slip Stream you can see the Sydney Opera House and Uluru from the Adelaide Street Circuit (at 9:42)
I love it when you do videos like this cuz I learned about new games to check out. I always love playing good beat-em-ups and side scrolling brawlers. And I'm definitely going to have to check out that racing game slipstream. That looks awesome!

I thought I was done with MAME, but there are a few games here that I need to check out. Like Ken-Go, Arabian Fight, and Exvania.
Slipstream looks like it has official tracks! I mean, I've been playing Gran Turismo 7 recently so that's my point of reference :P But seeing the FOSTERS beer logo brings back memories!

Spinal Breakers is mishmash of different content they wanted to use, the enemies are all allegedly androids gone haywire... And 7:49 that's necklace of prayer beads, Suiko is a monk.
Slip Stream, played back in the day, take a while to master but very satisfying when you do on the arcade.
Surprise Attack reminds me a lot of Shadow Dancer but, you know, in space. Shadow Dancer is a great game too.

I'm only seeing one comment about this, but just FYI, while that Temple of Doom game may not have gotten a SNES port, it actually did get an NES port from Tengen. Scaled down considerably, but nonetheless -- SNES users may have missed out, but NES users didn't... entirely.
