Yeh, it wasn't easy, but after getting married and having kids young, it was time to get a fun car in addition to the family car. This is why the golf r fit so well in my life, it's fun and didn't compromise on the ability to do the family duties 😎

I went to Paris with my Golf 8 R with my fam. It was an awesome trip. Very comfortable with Comfort mode and very fast at the highway (Péage). And a lot of attention on the road and gas stations. Only the trunk is small for 4 adults. A stationcar would be better for longer trips. But the hatchback looks much better.😊

Yes, the trunk would be too small for A longer trip, but they have the wagon version available in Europe, which would be perfect for the extra space.
Great review! How do you find the ground clearance for daily driving? Do you need to be extra careful with speed bumps and bad road conditions?

I'm careful getting out of steeper gradients, and go slow over speed bumps, but I find it's a pretty easy car to live with 😎

The 'R' really is a great car. They know who to target, 30-50 likely with a home, kids, looking for something that can transport them, get groceries, but also let loose (a little) on the roads. So understated which I like, and those that 'know' know. I still love my 2018 R Lapiz blue. Oh, the GTI is known as the 'hot hatch' and the R is known as the 'performance hatch' by Volkswagen, but hey call it what you what. If they bring back Spektrum I may consider trading.

I was about to pull the trigger on one, but couldn't find the exact one I wanted. Really the intent behind the videos is to compliment all the golf Rs. VW really is awesome for giving us two fun sporty versions of the golf for at least two decades, especially after Mitsubishi dropped the Lancer Evo and Subaru recently dropped the STI😎. Manual transmission hot/performance hatches as we know it are a dying breed. The next generations will start to be electric.
It would be awesome if they brought back the spectrum colors!

So far its been a reliable car. I have had a few minor things that had to be fixed, but nothing too major. The bumper needed a slight alignment from factory, the infotainment needed a software update and the sunroof slider console has had an issue. Other than that though, its been great! Nothing that I wasnt expecting from a first year new generation car. The insurance was also lower than I expected. I am paying about the same as my 2016 Mazda CX-9 Signature.
is your shift knob weighted? I heard that a heavier shift knob helps with the feel that a lot of journalists were complaining about. Do you feel it was the right decision to get it over the DSG?
Thank you so much for your comment, I really appreciate it! It really is! I love the weighted shift knob. It fits much better in my hand when shifting than the stock one, and just adds some personality. The stock one also broke a lot, from what I saw, so I just switched it before it could even happen.
I really enjoy driving stick, so for me DSG wasn't even an option. I completely understand that the DSG is quicker and easier to drive regularly, but I really wanted a manual car. I hope that helps.

I got 2024 manual R for exact same reasons. This car drives in a "Goldilocks" zone with everyday practicality thrown in. I can't think of another manual at this price that checks all the right boxes. WRX came close, but not a fan of its design. And no way I was going to pay for "market adjustment" on Type R or S. M cars are fast and still fun, but not what they used to be. It's funny how the R seem to bring out the boy-racer in every hot compacts I encounter.

I have a 2024 GLI. Same engine as the GTI and Golf R, but detuned and not as crazy fast but still love it. VW all the way!

Honestly is the most important thing, it builds trust and ensures I share truth.
The 2024 golf R that i got has lots of interior rattles and creaks. 3 days ago even my clutch pedal started to make some plastic squeak noises. I guess it depends if you are lucky or not. My vw tech friend told me VWs aren’t built like they used to, all the factory workers are newer generation and they suck ass apparently. But i agree, golf R is the ultimate fun daily driver. I dont regret getting it (yet).

Thank you so much for your comment, I really appreciate it! That's unfortunate, I'm so sorry to hear that your golf r has had some rattles and build quality issues... I agree, cars aren't built like they used to. The quality control has gone way down and manufacturers are always looking to cut corners. I'm lucky that I haven't really experienced anything to write home about. My front bumper was misaligned from the factory and I have a tiny piece of plastic floating in the headlight, but that's really it.

I use to have a Mk 7.5 Golf R and 2019 Accord 2.0T Touring
Those were rattle like crazy. They fix one and a new one appeared

Beautiful car and colour but those dang amber side lights in North America are just ugly. No power folding mirrors as standard? No auto hold feature for the park brake?
