  • Have you ever thinned or topped a iron? This video will give you some background as to why it happens and what you need to do to make sure you NEVER thin or top your irons again!
    Matt Fryer talks through an important concept in the golf swing and what the effects are on the golf swing when this changes. If you follow the amazing drill in this video you will understand the feeling of width and how to create in your golf swing, which will lead to far better and more consistent strike and over all golf shots.
    If you look at the greats of the game like Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and even Gary Player to this day, they all strike the ball amazingly as they maintain the width of the arc in the golf swing. After watching this golf lesson and some practice, you can achieve this with your golf swing!

    I try to have the feeling of what I call heavy hands...
    I keep the grip soft and relaxed, but feel that they are heavy, like a pendulum on a grandfather clock, it really gives a great strike and I can really thump into the back of the ball.
    This works really well with pitching and chipping too.

    Great drill which really helped me stay low on my irons and hybrid. Unfortunately it also seems to have made me swing lower on my driver and 3W off the tee. I had to tee the ball lower than normal after I started hitting my drives straight up in the air.

    • @juliansucks915
      @juliansucks915 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But thats normal, when look at most tour pros, you‘ll notice they tee the ball very low, tiger also said that once

    This guy has never shanked an iron....if he had then he'd know why some of us pull our arms toward us a little at impact....it's a mental thing and very very hard to overcome.

    • @jeroengoudswaard1176
      @jeroengoudswaard1176 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's more likely you pull the iron towards you because of insufficient body turn. The club goes past your sternum, just at/after impact. So now your right arm is fully extended, and your left arm has to collapse otherwise one of the two hands comes off the grip.

  • @Kiwigucci
    @Kiwigucci 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am doing the opposite; hitting the ground before the ball 4 of 5 times with both my irons and my fairway woods so it driving me insane. Trying to keep my head absolutely still and staring at the ball till it has left.
    Should I focus on another spot than the backside of the ball?

    • @dkel8795
      @dkel8795 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to do this a lot. I've found focusing on keeping my spine locked in place and rotating everything around where my spine is at set up gets me in a better impact position. Keep your spine locked over the ball and rotate everything around that. Also make sure you keep the same angle of tilt through out the swing. Swaying towards or away from the ball is also a killer for consistency. Hope this helps!

      @@Mattfryergolf Matt. No matter how good that drill might be, doing it is not going to cause me to "Never thin an iron again". Also, if maintaining the full radius of the arc of the swing is important, you must know the left arm is primarily responsible for maintaining it.
