Most incredible is her fluidity and total freedom from tongue tension. Even the best lyric-coloratura sopranos in Western classical singing can't quite match this, with very few exceptions such as Ingeborg Hallstein and Lucia Popp.
Kaushiki ji is one of India's finest classical musicians. Such performances are not rehearsed to a script. These are sung impromptu on stage. Let me explain. This piece is based on Raga Bhimpalasi. A raga is a combination of musical notes and is sung in one scale for any given composition (some compositions may have scale changes). Similarly, the rhythm is also set for either the entire piece, like in this case it is 16 beats. It can also vary with portions of the composition. This is not a lyrical. It is note based. In Indian Classical music we have ascending and descending 7 musical notes just like Do Re Me...These are - Sa re ga ma pa dha ni (ascending, C D E F G A B C) and sa ni dha pa ma ga re (descending). Raag Bhimpalasi is a pentatonic raga which goes like - :ni sa ga ma pa: ni sa (asc 5) and :sa ni dha pa ma ga re: sa (des 7). When Kaushiki ji sings, she sings keeping in mind two things, the notes for ascension and descent are aligned to the above structure of the raga in all possible combinations (there are more technicalities, perhaps beyond the scope of this platform) and they get set into the beat pattern (You'll see the tempo increases or decreases based on the number of notes she sings per beat cycle). The same notes are sung in the above combination, mostly across 3 octaves of the selected scale. Such performances can go on for hours and usually last for the entire night at times. The singers do not think and sing. They have practiced to a level that their throat (vocal chords, larynx, diaphragm, lungs etc.) develops a motor memory and can intelligently churn out the right notes and form a melody like a musical instrument. This is the essence of vocal (or instrumental) training in Indian classical music. Each and every sound the performer makes is an independent musical note!
if they check the video Traveller by Anoushka Shankar, they will get to see Sitar and Odissi dance by Shalini Patnaik. can appreciate two things in one go

The pure Indian Classical gems of India usually aren't famous... bcoz they usually don't sing in movies/in big albums.

That's just a drop in the ocean.. listen to her father Pt. Ajay Chakraborty, PT. Jasraj, Bheem Sen Joshi, Kishori Amonkar

Why not Bade ghulam ali khan, amir khan, abdul karim khan. Sadly no live recordings but they were maestros

And there are countless more
Moushumi Goswami
And Prahlaad Tipinya
This is not singing..this is pure devotion. Indian classicals are more than music ..it's devotion, it's worship.

React to Ustad Zakhir Hussain's Tabla playing ..he is the best tabla(percussion) player on the planet
He's great.. but it's debatable. He's just the most famous for his ads and his contribution to fusion music. But there are a few lesser known tabla players who might be a shade better from a pure Indian classical music standpoint.
@@advaitkamat1940 im not a very well informed person about tabla players out there ...there might be much better tabla players out there ..but im only aware of Zakhir sahb..so i cant debate about that ..but my intenstion was to leave an impact on admin's mind so that he develops an interest to watch him
Satyajit Talwalkar is also fantastic Tabla player who played in this Video along with Kaushiki. Also Kulkarni on harmonium was fantastic, particularly when he played the same saragam after Kaushikiji.
@paresh kulkarni Bro you're supposed to back up your snide comment with some facts. Plus I said he's the most famous for those things, meaning people who don't follow classical music don't know any other Tabla players, so they just consider him the best out of ignorance. eg. His dad Utd. Alla Rakha was actually a shade better than him.

Indian classical music is a whole different planet to explore, guys! And that's one art form where all the players are equally appreciated, so you'll see people loving the singers, but you'll also see equal appreciation for all of the instrumentalists, in fact, you'll see a lot of purely instrumental concerts as well. Check out any of the musicians that play at the Sawai Gandharva Festival, it happens every year in Pune.
So sad that we Indians are about to lose are own art and culture voluntarily.

Oww my god her voice and speed unbelievable.🙏 Her ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Kaushiki ji is one of India's finest classical musicians.
