Cabinet reshuffle: Braverman out but David Cameron returns to government

  • David Cameron said he was returning to the front benches because he "believes in public service" - as he began his first day in office as Foreign Secretary, the most surprising appointment in the Prime Minister's widespread Government reshuffle.
Of Rishi Sunak's three top ministers, only Jeremy Hunt kept the job he had when he woke up this morning.
Other cabinet posts were also filled with new or reshuffled faces - with Victoria Atkins now the Health Secretary, moving Steve Barclay to Environment Secretary, and Laura Trott taking over as Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

To be fair, when you're chanting racist slurs it's kind of a hate march. When you go out of your way to do it on the day of a national event, knowing it will stir up trouble, it's kind of a hate march. When you're out in support of a terrorist organisation, at a march organised by an ex-member of that terrorist organisation, it's kind of a hate march.
I've got no dog in this race. I'm not Palestinian, I'm not an Israeli, I'm not Jewish nor Muslim.
But I do find the march to be deliberately, knowingly held at an offensive time. They could just as easily taken the weekend off and continued their silly virtue signalling the following weekend.

“For a man to have been at the peak of political power for six years and to have written a 700-page memoir without a single arresting thought or amusing anecdote, without giving any insight into the important people he has met, and without displaying any interest in, let alone knowledge of, history, philosophy or higher culture, is an achievement of a kind. If banality can startle, Mr. Cameron’s banality startles - because of the position he once occupied. The average barroom bore is Doctor Johnson by comparison. It is only in its vacuity that David Cameron’s memoir achieves significance. It thereby tells us something about both modern politics and the state of education in Britain: for in the latter respect, Mr. Cameron is the product of the elite of the elite. This in itself is reason for the profoundest pessimism.”
