    What an honour for them both to sing together. I remember Michael singing when he was quite young, and it was obvious to me how good he could become.

    Reversed roles. Domingo, one of the greatest tenors ever, and Michael Spyres, who sings great and is also really at home in the baritone class.

    I've been a great fan of Michael SPYRES for years - I still have his "Du pauvre seul ami fidèle" from "La Muette de Portici", at l'Opéra Comique in Paris, stuck in my ears -, it's not this performance that is going to change my mind. Michael has the perfect voice for Nadir and sings it with spot-on stylistic adequacy.
    We, French opera lovers, feel honored of the interest he has been showing in the French repertoire. We have "adopted" him; may he know that France is his second home :)

    Placido, digno

    Spyres is amazing! I have one of his earlier CDs, as well as Les Troyens. Placido is Placido, that is, one of the great tenors of the 20th Century, less convincing in the 21st.

    Crazy. A tenor singing the baritone part and a natural baritone singing the tenor part.

    • @Creationseed9

      Both are baritones... one with better technique! And voice! And one is old and does not know when to quit!

    • @ransomcoates546
      @ransomcoates546 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Creationseed9 Exactly right. I’ve always thought Spyres was a natural baritone who developed a ‘trick’ production that allowed him to sing in a very high tessitura. The tenor voice is quite thin and nasal.

    Well we can not deny that Mario del Monaco had a great vocal organ, ( gran órgano vocal dramático). Somes times Coreli or Di Stefano bothers me when they had this excessive “like crying” passages in his interpretation, more Coreli than Di Stefano..

    This just makes me wonder how messed up the opera world could be nowadays... A dark baritone voice sings the tenor part and a tenor sings the baritone part. Neither sounds as they should or could.

    • @eliascastillorivera7130
      @eliascastillorivera7130 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Precisely. They attempt to be something they are not. And they fool many people without criteria. Because they believe they can surpass the nature of their voices, but at last they end doing low quality art, low because of the low quality of the essence of the voice itself. It's not authentic. It's a hoax, a parody. We need true art, true deliverance of the voice. We need to be true to ourselves.

      @@eliascastillorivera7130 why are you guys waating valuable, precious time bitching and moaning, when you could be getting off your lazy asses and get out there and show us what the real deal is?

    • @eliascastillorivera7130
      @eliascastillorivera7130 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@downfromkentuckeh well, you know, writing that comment took me some minutes, but acquiring the knowledge and criteria to be able to have a response on what I understand is what really took me time, and it will took me even more time, my whole life, to grow even more that criteria, because learning is a thing that never ends. And, at least me, I'm not merely waiting for something better, but me and others are training our voices, trying to do our best to do the best possible art that we could, that opera deserves, truthful and honest art. And if we not reach that point of great quality, I don't think we should be praising our mediocrity, but, at least, sharing our criteria, because others can acquire precious, valuable perspectives from that, to not accept everything the media offers.

      Spyres is indeed a tenor, and Domingo is old, and doesn't have the full range he once had. He's not a proper baritone, but shocker, people like to see famous singers sing. This is one way that can be accomplished without him killing himself to sing repertoire that he can't anymore. Relax.
