Believe it or not, I snapped my Caribbean Leaf compression lock, rinsing it out from saltwater on a sandy mellow beach in Greece, luckily on Blade Forums Sal (king of the best knife company) arranged with me to get a replacement and just wanted the knife for analysis. It is one of the 10 or so compression lock failures in the world (just my luck) due to faulty material/ higher power. Also due to Serbian export laws, I couldn't send the blade itself, so I sent everything except the blade. Again thanks to Sal and Spyderco, I now have a sheepsfoot Caribbean and a Frankenstein Caribbean fixed blade (I had friends make a fixed blade out of my Caribbean Leaf blade). My new Carribbean remains my swim shorts knife for swimming in the sea 😊.

That's really impressive. One time I was coming back home from a club in Memphis, and I had to pee really bad. I made my friend pull over so I could go pee. When we got home, I realized I didn't have my phone OR my knife, which was the first decent knife I had ever purchased. A SOG Trident. I ended up going back out to look for the items, with no luck. I was more upset about losing my knife than my phone haha.

Keep in mind, I am almost 50, so I have learned to treat my knives better, however, when I was in my early teens I ruined a Buck 110. I snapped the blade throwing it at a tree and trying to get it to stick. Broke my knife and my heart. You would think I would have learned, but a day or two later, I ruined the tip on my Buck 119... throwing it at the same tree. 😂

Started collecting about 1 1/2 yrs ago, started with the elementum, moving up to in price and quality, started mods, and all kinds of fun. Recently got a Victorinox sd classic for the wife, and it inspired me to bust out my little box of childhood knives that had a nice small Tinker from the 90’s. I was excited and cleaned up the scales and was thinking of making a lanyard. But… when opened the tools i found BOTH the main blade and second blade had the tips broken clean off. Looked like i had been using the main on as a screwdriver! I was shocked, then resigned and tossed the knife in the trash. The next morning i had a thought, maybe send it to Victorinox and see what they say. Dug it out of the trash and shipped it off. Now, just 3 weeks later, i have it back, cleaned with new main and second blade, plus they replaced scales and the toothpick and tweezers. It is smooth opening and looks amazing. Grand total to restore this 30+ knife - 5 bucks! Unreal, what a great hobby, and great to have these kinds of people and companies involved. Thanks.

Wasn't me, but: I hit a rough patch a few years back, and instead of being homeless, checked myself into a Rescue Mission. For the first couple of months there, you get assigned a "job" to help contribute to the mission, and mine was in the kitchen. They had a couple of chefs on staff to guide us as we fed everyone. The head chef there used to go above and beyond for his crew and would often send his own money to get us energy drinks or a pack of smokes.
After a few months, they then help you get jobs, and Chef was getting homeless people and addicts jobs in 5 star restaurants! Well, a few of us who were in the working phase all chipped in and got him a $350ish custom chef's knife as a show of appreciation. (Wasn't as into knives yet, don't remember the maker) We got all of the shifts together and had a nice little party while the rest of the mission ordered pizza for the night. After the food we presented Chef with the knife, bring a tear to dude's eye as he's opening the box, and proceeds to somehow stumble while standing still, and drops that beautiful knife, tip first onto a tile floor! Broke about 3/4" off the tip before he actually touched it! Chef was absolutely crestfallen.
The guy who actually took care of getting the knife made took it back to the maker, and he ended up with a 6" custom chef knife, at no extra charge because the knife community is amazing and the maker was a shining example of that.

Clearing the forest last fall I lost my carbon steel pocket knife. I was looking for it for a day but I couldn’t find it. Next weekend we got 8” snow on the ground. I thought I lost it forever. Once the snow melted this spring I started working on the property again and luckily I found my knife without looking for it. Needed an extreme cleaning and rust removal. Not the prettiest now but fully functional and razor sharp. I will take care of it and never gonna lose it again.
Nice video TC I would love to see more Rough Rider videos if you could have time for that. I bought 10 RR this spring at SMKW and you were kind enough to have a selfie with me and my wife

I “borrowed” a kershaw leek from my stepdad when I was a teenager. it was my only knife for years. I lost it and found it multiple times. broke the tip off and reground it at school. I used it to rescue a duckling that was tangled in fishing line in front of my wife to look like a hero. I used it as fidget toy until the speed safe bar finally broke and I retired it. One day I plan to get it fixed and put it back into the rotation.

Ok, here is my story about the toughest work folder ever. I work in a wholesale supply warehouse and carry a combo blade leatherman crater cx33. My pocket clip had bent out a little bit, which caused it to catch on the torn forklift seat (forklift certified baby!) and pull out of my pocket onto the pavement. I didn't notice right away and was moving around 1060 gal septic tank pallets. So, of course, I set a pallet down right on my knife and pushed it across the asphalt, probably about a good 30 feet or so. Once I realized my knife was missing, I pretty much knew right where to look. I raised up the very large, heavy pallet and boom. There she was. A little chipped up and scratched to hell from tip to tail with significant blade play. But still, fully intact. It still opened, closed, and locked. Which blew my mind. I went from pissed to bummed to impressed. I knew I had to try and save it. So I called leatherman to see if they could help. I sent it off, and they were somehow able to bring it back to life as good as new! I still carry a leatherman crater at work, but not that one. After many years of hard use and abuse, it earned its retirement right at my desk. Proudly displayed, scars and all, as the toughest knife in the business! 😤😤😤

When I was young my dad lost his job and ended up giving my two brothers knives he made. He was short on money and this was the only way he could get us Christmas I love this knife. He is not a pro at making knives but he put his heart into all three. Well, I ended up leaving mine at my grandparents to keep it safe as I grew up, and later in life, I went to their house to find it. I looked high and low and I was not able to find my knife. One day after they passed away I was helping clean out their house and I picked up an old humidifier from when I was a kid. This thing was much heavier than it should have been so I opened it. Right there sitting in water from maybe the 70's was my knife. It seems my grandmother saw it and it scared her so she hid it in there for about 30 years and destroyed the knife. I still have it but the rust is so deep it will never look the same as it did when my dad gave it to me. I should have never left it at their house and stored it someplace safe.

Well, I once had a friend back many years ago who was a SMKW customer service representative, back when Big Bill (tall guy, baldish, grey hair) was the manager. She gave me a small camp knife, our families spent weekends together. One night after touching the little guy up with Flitz, closing it and falling asleep...it ended up falling into a bucket I keep by my bedside for Reflux disease "emergencies" . Needless to say I woke up later after being sick that night ...and found what was left of the little camp knife. Stomach acid (hydrochloric) can REALLY do a number on high carbon steel😂😂. Thanks for letting me know that after filtering and boiling my water from that river, I should ph test it and add baking soda. 😂 I used to live 20 minutes from the store. First knife I bought there was a Japanese made Gen 1 SOG TOMCAT.

To this day I can't figure out how it happened. On a fishing trip, after being totally trashed, the next morning when the trusty Buck 119 was unsheathed to open a pack of bacon, it came out with half a blade. The tip half was still in the sheath. And buck makes some pretty thick and solid sheaths. Maybe it broke when rolling side to side sleeping. I mean it was a nice, clean and even break. Almost exactly in half. Still scratch my head over that. Yes, Buck replaced it.

I try to protect my premium and more expensive knives. Keep them out of danger. I've lost a Penguin in a campsite in the heavy rain. Couldn't go back until several days later. Yes, the blade was ruined. I think it was D2. Loved that knife, but it was easy to replace with more premium steel.😊

      @arrowheadguys7637 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I've found the opposite to be true. I've lost more cheap knives than premium one...because I tend to do a better job keeping track of it, and in the few instances where I have lost one, you better believe it gets found fast. I usually don't even bother looking for a budget knife.

Had a CRKT knife that was my EDC for 2 years (my favoriteat that time). I lost it in my yard while mowing. I searched for days and couldn't find it. 3 years later I bought a metal detector. While playing with the metal detector I found the knife. It was very rusty but I did clean it up. I continued to use until I lost it again 3 months later while mowing the lawn. It took 2 weeks with my detector to find it again. Moral of the story for me was not to carry a knife while mowing my yard! At least not my good knives anyway. I do have an acre of yard so that's why it took so long to find it.

My wife and I moved to Puerto Rico Mother inlaw, who I love deeply used to cook dinner for us. One evening, I got home early and walked to the kitchen, smelling her amazing cooking when I noticed she opened a can of beans with my Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin knives. It took me 2 weeks of overtime money to purchase the block set of 5. One by one, they were destroyed, and 2 of them were used in the side garden to cut mangoes and bananas for kids. By the end of that summer, my Zwilling J.A. Twin knives were gone $300.00 of 2 weeks of overtime gone away..

Nice test --- I damaged my Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Huntsman by being an idiot. I had the main blade open and was throwing the knife up in the air, trying to get it to land point down in the ground about thirty feet away. After the third or fourth throw it missed the grass completely and landed on the asphalt...tip down of course. The blade sheared in two, breaking off about halfway up the nail nick. This was absolutely devastating to my eleven-year-old self because it was the first knife I bought with my own money.

I still continued to use it for quite a while until I broke part of the cover off one side and knocked the shield out of it. From what I've read H2 isn't an upgrade to H1 so much as a very similar alloy Spyderco switched to due to supply issues witn H1. IIRC on paper it should have slightly better corrosion resistance and slightly worse edge holding than H1. I think that isn't really an upgrade for most people given that H1's already basically immune to corrosion in normal use in salt or fresh water, but it probably doesn't make much difference.

As any know-it-all 12 year old would, I combined the two trying to make the knives “better.” As expected, I ended up mangling a few of those flea market knives with the Dremel before accepting the fact that I wasn’t actually improving them and I was in fact destroying them.

I would like to see a side by side comparison with a knife suing S30V and maybe 1095 carbon steel. And also micarta and pakkawood handles. Alas, I don't have an interesting story of knife I ruined despite doing numerous wrong things I did with Camillus Fighting Knife but I do have a somewhat interesting story of a knife that I indirectly ruined. It was while I was in the army and we were acting as aggressor force against the headquarters element of Reserve Transportation unit. We were given orders to infiltrate their security and attack their TOC (Tactical Operation Center). I instructed one of my corporals to cut the telephone line once we got passed their perimeter. He commented that he didn't have wire cutters. I told him he could use his Camillus, that it would cut WD-1 with no problem at all.
The weather was perfect for us to sneak in. It was raining which covered any noises. After we got passed the line, I sent the corporal off to the trail from the main gate to TOC to look for the telephone line. After about a minute the entire headquarters went dark. A few seconds later the corporal returned and I asked him did he find the telephone line. He said yes but it was much harder to cut than I said. And he complained about the wire sparking and shocking him. Instead of the telephone line He had cut the electrical line from the main generator. We looked at his knife after we got back and he had some of the biggest gouges I had ever seen, some as deep a 1/4 inch. Apparently he didn't know the difference between a half in generator cable and 1/8 in telephone wire! We were commended for the attack on the TOC that included tossing a CS grenade into the middle of their staff meeting. I offered to buy the corporal a new knife but he said he would just keep the one he had for the memories.

    Story time for the giveaway:
Went kayak fishing about 4 years ago at a private pond. While fishing, I had an urge to use the restroom (number 2). I paddle to shore, and find a spot to do my business. Afterward I went about my day. Toward the end, I realized my CJRB Ria was missing and I just knew it fell in the water and was gone. I chalked it up as a loss. Things happen. I ordered another one when I got home because it's one of my favorite little pocket knives. Couple of months later, I get a text with a picture from my uncle and, to my surprise he found it while on the shore in that same area. Evidently as my pants were at my ankles, the knife (clipped in my pocket) came loose and fell out on shore and I never noticed LOL. It has surface rust on the blade but overall it was still in serviceable condition after I cleaned it up. I carry my newer one still and this one hangs out with the rest of the knife collection as my backup now in case something similar happens again. If proof is needed for validity, I can show the knife to you. That's probably my craziest knife story.

Sorry I'm late, I destroyed mine by being a noob and probably lazy. Bout 10 years ago I had a Lansky deluxe, it was great but worksharp had just come out with the handheld grinder and I figured I could use a zdp dragonfly to learn to use it with since the hrc's so high. Well one pass and I guess I raised it up wrong but I completely rounded the tip. It's like I cut the blade in half. I couldn't believe it. Ended up just grinding off enough to make it a wharnie and then I used the Lansky to reprofile it until it cut paper again, but this angle is like 50° or something. Steep af so it dulls fast, plus I probably destroyed the heat-treat since I didn't know to cool it. I've never touched a belt system since.

Carried as my outdoor/wilderness blade and did a lot of batoning without issue. Well splitting some fire wood in single digit temps I had a difficult knot in a twisted pieceof oak. I done similar task before no problem but never in temps this low. Well while pounding the blade though I heard a sickening ‘tink and wiggling the blade out I found a half moon missing about the radius of a Silver Dollar! We are still waiting on the winner to contact us. If they don't soon we will choose a different one and get in contact with them. As soon as we get a conformation we will announce the winner
