    Man, I should have learnt mechanics when I had the chance! My father (retired now) used to be a mechanic... a really good one I might add. Was one of the chief mechanics for Ford in the UK. I spent many hours talking to him while he worked but never tried to learn anything... what a waste. Thanks for the video, brother!))

    my method is much more crude than yours I just start swapping out parts until the damn thing runs I think your method is much better!!

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And that's okay when it's your own vehicle. That's what 98% of the mechanics do to and that's not right. I've been overcharged in the past for work and I'm hoping that won't happen now. But I know my limits too. Thanks for watching Pops.

    It's a double edge sword when you have to invest in diagnostic kit to work on these modern trucks but it's good when that kit points to what's gone wrong !

    That was terrific Wyatt ! Very happy to see you in action , and even more happy with that happy face result. Terry is right about the bug ya know. Soon you'll be hopping on the Staten Island Express as Ivan calls it. Looking forward to the next video already. Remember nothing wrong with doing a video showing things that are working properly either . So to follow up Erics question about that white wire , perhaps do a short video on what one should see when all is good. If you don't know what good looks like you can never be sure what's really bad. Plus it's good to start your own little library of signals while all is working. That way if the truck goes down let's say for a cam sensor and the new part isn't up to snuff you'll have a reference to use with that nifty little vantage of yours.

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Outstanding idea because as I'm learning it would be good to reference what things are suppose to look like. I'm still learning this Vantage but I'm already on the hunt for something more capable. I know you love that PICO. Ivan has been showing that lately too. It's at a price point that is almost attainable for a DIY'er like me. Thanks for the input and support.

      Haha, yeah. I know what the waveforms mean but I'm still struggling to get them to look all pretty like they do in the service manual. I verified the function of an oil control valve on my Mazda yesterday but for the life of me couldn't get the waveform to look right. The Vantage didnt' have a guided test for this one so I was on my own with the scope. Still too much of a rookie with the scope I guess. Oh well, practice practice!

    Good to see the proud look on your face sir :) It may have been me miss speaking or not being to clear but the wire I was thinking of was the white wire in the ICM. It should be in pin "B" IC Control Signal. I was curious to what that wire had KOEC and if nothing what it had KOEC with it unplugged from the ICM. Oh well if it dies again we can test it then! Fact is you did a test not a guess :)

    I have same truck as you with 5.0. it has a 1351, fuel, spark. timing marks line up. 170lb compression. First thing I did was install a new module. didn't start. it dosnt hold fuel pressure after the key is turned off so I put new injectors in it. it now cranks faster. [I think the injectors were stuck open and causing it to hydrolock] It now acts like it wants to start and even fires but can't quite make it. I'm thinking computer. otherwise I'm stumped. need a direction to go.
    To much money to buy another one.

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since installing new injectors does your fuel pressure hold after the pumps primes the system with key on?

    • @paul5276
      @paul5276 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      no. As a mater of fact it is doing exactly the same
      as before. it cranks like it is out of time. I've triple checked the timing marks it's right.
      I'm thinking the computer is bad throwing the firing and injector pulse off.
      I'm not thinking fuel pump cause it's new and it builds 60psi while cranking.

    • @wyattoneable

      @@scottslaughter881 Hi Scott. I wish I had the easy fix for you but it's difficult to know what's going on without being there and knowing what tests have been completed. Heat from a relay is not uncommon but again, how much heat is too much? Try changing the relay. Bad connections are a source of heat. That's about the only idea I have. Good luck.

  • @JBlinky67

    I know this is a couple years old, but I'm having the same problem with my 2000. I've replaced the ICM 3 times. It will run and start for a few days to a few weeks then refuse to start again. I bought the same Napa part and it was fine for a few days then refused to start! Then today, after 3 days of no start, BOOM... It started. I'm so lost. Any ideas?

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is aggravating for sure. A common problem on these trucks is for the fuel pump to fail. In my case the fuel return check valve failed (which is part of the pump assembly) so while the pump was pumping fine, the system couldn't hold enough pressure in the rails for the truck to start. Also, these GM's will run without a cam sensor working but will have a hard time starting. Check both the cam and crank circuits for the correct signal. Good luck.
