Thank you! It always makes my day when I see that there is another one of your videos, ready to watch! This is all brand new to me. I do not...did not..sew before these past few months. My mother passed away in January. She was a wonderful quilter! I told her once that having a quilt she'd made, wrapped around me, was like having a hug from her. Mom said she wanted me to have her sewing materials...machines, fabric, tools, notions, etc. I know how much it meant to her so I really want to do a good job with any project I undertake. It means learning a whole new language and set of skills I didn't have before. I really do appreciate your clear and careful explanations. I've watched most of your videos (and even rewatched a number of them). I've only tried a few small things so far and your words and advice echo helpfully while I'm planning/cutting/sewing. This has become a very special way for me to remember and feel close to my mother and to honour all the time and caring she put into her quilts. I wanted you to know how much it has meant to me to be able to have a trusted resource nearby as I venture further along this new experience. Thank you so much!

Wow! Just wow! Your story...😢 and also lovely 😍 at the same time. I am sure you can quilt as good as your mom or maybe even better.. after all she's mom. So the sewjo is in your blood.
      Best regards from Malaysia.

Hi Donna! Love the simplicity of this mini rail fence. The very first quilt i pieced, many years ago was a rail fence pattern. Took me many years to finish piecing the top and i cut all of the strips the old fashion way....with a template and a pair of scissors. OUCH! Then when assembling the blocks nothing matched up! I threw it all in a box and didn’t look at for more than 5 years. When i found in again, i did manage to get the blocks sewn together since by then we were all using rotary cutters and mats, though it is still not quilted yet. Must do that. I love your tutorials. I have picked up so many great tips along the way and look forward to each of your new videos. I think I have watched all of them multiple times. So inspiring. I love Kaffe Fassett fabrics, they are such an explosion of color, but definitely not traditional. Would love to have that quilt. It is on my list to make so I will get one eventually!

Thank you so much for your tutorials. You articulate the instructions so well and I have learned so much from you. As a beginner in quilt making this mini rail table runner was my first serious project. I would grade myself B+ because a few of the intersections weren't perfect and it doesn't lay perfectly flat. It's been difficult to master the quarter inch seam on my old Singer machine. However, completing this project has given me the confidence to preserver. I especially enjoy the smaller projects!

Hello Jordan, I see it so often that people do 2 boarders around their patchwork, but why? is 1 boarder not enough? And why not 3 or 4 or mutiple? Could you explain this please.

Donna: I've been watching your videos now for the better part of a year, and I have to say that you are inspiring to me. I purchased autumn-colored fabrics a few years ago, but got stuck on what pattern I would use to make a quilt with them. This rail fence is good for the commitment-phobe in me; I have enough fabric to make two different colorways for small lap quilts in the rail fence. I've also been able to piece together a Tea Time pattern quilt using the guidance you provided in another video. You demystify so much of the quilting process, and I really appreciate your advice and tips. Your enthusiasm is contagious! Thank you so much for helping me to get moving on my sewing!

I love rail fence, but never thought of using it for a table runner. I have some lovely Kaffe Fassett fat quarters, now I know what I’m going to make. Thanks for inspiring me 🤗

Loved this pattern but for some reason after measuring strips 1 5/8 & cutting it out in 5 inch inch square does not work! What did I do wrong, senior moment. I did cut all strips the same, please help! Love your site & it must be me.. Joan

Double check your seam allowances. You can always measure your strip unit, and then cut it into squares that are that size.

Jordan Fabrics Thank you for your rapid response. If I trim the 5 inch square 1/2 inch it works. I use a I/4 bridge when I sew the strips & know it’s very accurate. Love all the tutorials you produce & always watch your channel. Wish I lived closer to visit your wonderful store. My father lived in Crescent City years ago & I am familiar with your area. Take care, I’ll be watching you, Joan in Arizona

The rail fence block is almost as classic as the log cabin block. Nice color combo for this runner.
