I had the honor of attending two of her masterclasses at UMBC. Amazing guitarist, with the best tone I've ever heard live.
Eine wunderbare Gitarristin, gratuliere ich Ihnen sehr geehrte Frau Meng Su
Andres Segovia must be smiling in heaven . His dream of making the classical guitar a concert instrument has come to fruition via this phenomenal guitarist musician Memg Su . Her playing truly reveals why I love the classical guitar . Her variations of tone and harmonics makes this instrument unique and her playing is incredible. What tone and dynamics . Truly unique!
As an academic guitarist she is unique!!!👋👋👋👋👋
If not her, then who!?
I agree that Segovia is smiling in heaven!!!
Bravissimo!!!🌺🌹❤️
I am so impressed by how quickly she is able to focus and get into the zone. After playing the final chord of her first piece, she slowly lowers her hand to the bridge and then a moment later slightly turns her hand to palm mute the strings. That is the moment the guitar stops singing and the piece is finished. All pieces are amazingly performed. Bravo!
Bravissimo……..Brilliant👏👏👏and Dammann👈😍
Unrivaled dynamics: so much power and intensity of sound, with such sensitive variation.
Looking forward!
Glorious tone, strong but sweet, beautiful performance!!
Great concert !! Wonderful sounding guitar and beautiful playing 🙂👏👏 Thank you for sharing 🎵
Each note of the guitar is clear and deep. Very nice and good.
A terrific programme and an extraordinary performance....delivering such fine details, colours, shades and nuances...
HOT on & from all sides !! THX Omni !! Thank YOU Meng Su !!
Oh, btw. COOL shoes X Looks shArp on YOU !!
Although this concert music was not my listening style, but I really appreciate your technic and nuance as well. You are a super giant artist
Mastery only comes with talent , skills and beauty, congratulations. Outstanding.
and a lot of hard work.
Beautiful woman, superb guitarist, great artist, every day you are better. I love you and your art. Go ahead please. You are a gift for the music world. From Cancún , México , ❤ .
Thank you, Meng Su for this excellent concert!!!
Great sounding master performance. The instrument is well recorded. It must be of 1st quality also. To hear the acoustics from this kind of acoustic instrument is very, very satisfying.
Brilliant. So clean with just the right. balance between technique and musicality. Loved the Toccata and the best Walton I ever heard.
So impressive.
Wow, that Walton 'Lento' is marvelous!
Impressive! Very nice guitarrist, I am glad to know her!
Beautiful performanse
Meng Su is awesome and tranquil.
Great concert, great artist. Great applause!
Very nice performance from a guitar master. Thanks..
how can someone not like this? amazing performance!! so nice to be able to see your concert Meng Su!!
Absolutely entrancing - thank you Meng Su for sharing your amazing talent. Loved the whole programme - the piece by the Chinese composer was amazing. 🎶🎶
Very nice. Thanks for the upload.
Wow, such an outstanding artist!!!! Thank you for the upload
Thank you for watching!
SPECTACULAR..as always!
Brilliant!
And the Encore: sUper sweet! THX again!
Great acting! Great guitar!
total pleasure to listen to you play. I hear so many amazing "technicians" these days on the guitar scene its mind boggling. The difference in your playing is that your technique is a means to an end...interpreting and shaping music. In particular...your performance of the Walton is the best on the planet. stunning and insightful. Walton would have been so happy to hear you interpret his pieces the way he must have envisioned them. Thank you for your dedication to the music.
Beautiful, superb.
I like his versatile style.
Bravo
Gran concertista Meng Su!! 😉
Thank you for this top-class performance!
Muchas gracias, Meng Su. Saludos desde España.
OMG, this definitely is one of the top classic concerts I've ever watched. The selection is flawless, to me a bit surprisingly out of my usual listening guitar pieces but each one of them from starting to end it drives my thurst to listen the next note, and the interpretation of Meng Su never failed to deliver. This is really magical. I am pretty sure I will be watching this over and over again.

Melodías preciosas y habilidad extraordinaria del ejecutante. Arte y sentimiento
BRILLANTE, BRILLANTE!!
Sonido demoledor!!!!!!! BRAVO!!!!!!! 😉
Tive a satisfação de ver Meng Su tocando quando ainda era muito jovenzinha. Já tocava muito. Agora cresceu e já esta preparada para fazer décadas de sucesso. Muito talento.
ela ja veio no brasil onde vc viu
Whoever made that guitar will be very pleased to hear it has such a lovely voice.
Love your playing! You’re incredible!
You remind me so much and sound like the great Julian Bream!
Esecuzione perfetta, senza sbavature. Ma un concerto difficile, coraggioso, molta tecnica e poca resa. Su Meng è una delle più grandi chitarriste di tutti i tempi.
Perfect!
This man is amazing.
Huh? That's a woman

Damn. Such great performance.
Would love to hear an album (or see a concert) with Meng and Yuja Wang together!
lol @22:24 when she casually changes the page on the ipad. amazing performance!
Haha! I'm a student and when she did that all the guitarists in the audience looked at each other.
@@AWMail-uw3hb Ahah nice! The shoes and everything, she exudes pure badass-ness! (If that’s a word). What a sensational experience that must have been.
Espetacular !!!
Ваша игра восхитительна. Пока слушаю Пьяццолу.

The 1st is piazzolla's,I love it

Qui est le luthier de cette sublime guitare ? ♥️🎵🎶🎵
wow! ... great to find out about Meng Su ... now need to look up for more ... does anyone know what guitar she is using?
Yes, she is using a guitar built by the German luthier, Matthias Dammann. Thanks for watching!
It amazes me, that these top players can use guitars with such high actions.
I can only vaguely play Classical ..with a 2.5mm action (at the 12th fret) or below.
Meng Su's guitar looks to be 4mm+ (judging by the string movement when they are pressed by the left hand).
The accuracy, strength and stamina needed are something else.
It’s tricky to tell. First of all, the repertoire selection and her playing is so badass with such a command of tone and the instrument it’s giving me a mind numbing sensation. Whoa!
Going by what I see to be a fairly ‘level (parallel with the top) bridge saddle height as in the bass and treble height from the the top is not compensated by raising the bass side like many classical guitars.
That leads me to suspect potentially the fingerboard is planed slightly at a ‘skewed’ angle as it reaches the top frets.
This would give the illusion of slightly higher action. It allows more clearance on bass side where the strings need the room for fullest volume headroom.
My 74 Ramirez 1a has this type of design setup. And another element to having an equal parallel height bridge saddle, it’s said this allows for a more even tension across the bridge which I’m not sure that significant.
I could be entirely mistaken as well.
@@audimaster5000 interesting, I didn't know much about the compensation thing (higher up the neck).
Also, it was places like 4:38 - look at the third fret index finger bar, that amount of string deviation, for me, hints at a high nut action too. Though I guess she could compensate by having a thinner gauge of string (I usually play Heavy/high tension). Amazing playing :)
if not mistaken 4mm action is quite standard with classical guitars and only the electrics have like 2.5mm. maybe flamenco is lower than 4mm too.
@@RevoltingRudi It is common/natural to think 3mm is low on classical (4mm being 'standard'). But lower actions were always 'sort after' , just less common. Fret dressing was less accurate (as was fret wire consistence of manufacture). I've seen old classicals with lower than 2mm actions. They are rare, as is getting an example that doesn't fret buzz somewhere :) Also, fret dressing (under string tension - allows more accurate fret levelling) was a dark art ..until more recent times ;) Neck angle, can also be an issue with low actions (i.e. original manufacture can sometimes stifle creating low actions).
I'd say 2.5mm (bass and treble - 12th fret) is a perfect action for a Classical in the modern world. It relieves the fretting hand and still (with a little modification) all right hand techniques are still possible (imo). And, if the fret work is done well, it will not buzz.
Only thing you may need to do, with a low action, is stop wrapping the strings around the bridge. And instead, use some version of 'string beads'. This creates a better string break angle at the saddle (if the saddle is very low). This not only improves string tension (less 'floppy' at a low action) but also adds some sustain+tone (probably, as the more acute string break angle causes the string to press harder against the saddle ..transferring more vibration)
fyi - look into the PLEK fret dressing system. This is based on fret dressing while under string tension. But, done with a computer and a specialised vertical milling machine. This allows things like; different fret heights at different areas of the board ..to compensate for how the strings resonate above the frets (we're talking 10ths, 100ths or 1000ths of a millimetre :)
Peace.
what is this technique called at 44:16 and 44:20?
That’s called a golpe, pronounced like (“goal-pay”) and adopted from flamenco technique. Thanks for watching!
Where is her right leg
What have you done to the house of my Father ?
Silly remark. Does this look like a den of thieves, huh? 🙂
