One should probably not do truck hardware modifications with a hammer, but Mr Camarata is not known for giving a fuck. Or how about: one should not fix an external car light while it's on and the battery is connected.

"The distributor cap and rotor are way in the back so I'm not even going to mess with it". LOL. I know the feeling. Have a 99 Ram 1500 with a 5.2
Love the videos and learn a lot and really appreciate showing real life (like the cooling system still under pressure when the heater core hose was removed). In the spirit of learning/other ideas, here's my take on a couple of things:
-Protecting from dirt getting into the engine internals. It just doesn't make sense to not be careful with regards to dirt when you were taking off the valve cover. Tipping it over while being right over the internals of the engine just seems like asking for trouble. The internals of the engine need to be clean and remain clean and when unfastening old rusted valve cover bolts and where valve cover side flanges capture tons of dirt, especially when they are leaking oil. ..nearly guaranteed to have dropped sand/dirt/gooey oil sludge in there. Fighting the injector wires and removing the gasket too, knocking into things probably causes some dropping of dirt in there too. Options to prevent this would be to loosen the valve cover bolts then compressed air all around that area.
-Changing the plug wires. . .I found a quick way to check if they are "leaking" spark is to run the engine at night in a real dark area away from all light and (carefully) look under the hood. You'll see what looks like a laser light show if they are leaking. Easy and quick and is in keeping with Andrews "Don't touch it if it isn't broke" feelings.

Hey Andrew I wanted to thank you for making all these videos and sharing them they have been very inspirational to me. You probably already know this when putting those spark plugs in or any fastener if you don't want to start them by hand try running the drill in reverse slowly first until you feel a click. Once you feel the click it means the start of the threads are lined up and you can run it in knowing its not cross threaded leaning this was a game changer for me. Think your at your best talking about trucks and telling story's wail driving those are always my favorite.

Hey Andrew, The spark plugs were coated with ash deposits. That is typically for burning oil. It may not be worn rings, or valve guides. The "barrel" intake manifold on those old Chrysler 318 and 360 "magnum" engine series used a metal pan on the bottom of the intake. It is very, very common for that gasket to go bad and it will suck oil from the lifter gallery and that ends up in the combustion chambers. If you have never pulled the intake manifold I would recommend checking this out.

Hey Andrew! I just did a tuneup on my old '93 GMC a couple months ago myself. Plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. The local shops wanted $300! I bought the parts at NAPA for $60 and did it myself and saved $240. The old girl had been getting hard to start in damp, rainy, weather, and was getting bad at acceleration. She had never had a tuneup since I bought her new in '93 ..... 26 years ago. LOL. She only has 90k miles on her. This was the first tuneup I had done since the late 70's or early 80's on anything, but when I was young was always wrenching on cars. I am old now and not in good health, and so this tuneup was a major job for me, but I def was not going to pay a shop their outrageous prices for doing it. I got 'er done though, and she is running great now. Here in a few days I am going to fill the fuel tank and do the math and see what my mpg was since the last time I filled, which was right after I did the tuneup. When she was new, and up until she started running rough before the tuneup, she was getting about 21 / highway and 16/ city, but when she started needing the tuneup the mileage dropped to about 8 mpg no matter where it was. So I am hoping that when I fuel up and do the math that her mpg is back up there where it should be.

A trick a buddy showed me, is to spray an aerosol adhesive on one side is the gasket, then with it sticky you can place and push it down and it stays exactly where you put it. As well as making the holes line up nicely.

Watching this makes me never want to give my vehicle to anyone to work on. They don't care if it's done right, really. They drop a screw somewhere and just say 'oh, he'll never know and he'll have something break and have to bring it back in and e score another job'. Auto repair has got to be one of the shadiest businesses since you can't be there and watch them and very few people know what is going on. Put the wrong fluid in, "who cares", certainly not them. But here Mr C. knows what is needed and does it right and it works and he cares obviously about his own machines.

We could never afford to run a huge V8 petrol truck like that here in the UK with fuel at $1.55 per litre. Just a word of warning though, at 5.50 you got awfully close to that Trans Fluid. You need to be really careful with that stuff, the world isn't prepared for Andrew Camarata in a party frock and high heels!
