I accepted delivery of my 2022 BMW iX xDrive50 on 6/3/2022. I have owned two BMW X5's previously and decided to go electric. I cannot tell you how much I love this vehicle. I get performance, luxurious interior and no longer have to deal with going to the gas pumps. I have my own own Level 2 Charge Point home flex hardwired in our garage. I am one happy Bimmer owner.
I've recently watched over 20 BMW ix reviews, and this is definitely one of my favorites! It's very detailed and I really like the side-by-side comparisons, also how you showed all the options, colors, trims, etc. Well done!

I got to test the ix as a loaner while my car was being serviced. I loved it. Just trying to figure out the charging situation but there are way more stations than I thought.
From what I've seen, this video provides the most comprehensive overview of the iX. I watched a ton of videos before ordering one of those a few days ago. Those other videos didn't contain nearly as much useful information as this one. Much obliged. Now I will have a better idea of what to anticipate.

You are one of the best reviewer I have seen, very sharp informative and absolutly clear. You forgot to mention the sound of the doors when you shut them close inside ( manually ) doesn't feel right. That famous click sound is not there and feel so cheap when you close the doors. This is very very important as it is to your face every single day, BMW needs to get this right. This is a off put for me. I hope you read this and thanks again for the great review.

Thank you for the kind words & your support! I have driven both and can tell you the iX is the one I would choose because of performance, tech, interior feel & cargo space. Yes the iX has available gesture control. I believe the gesture control comes with the convenience package. Love that feature 🙂
Traded in our X5 Plug in hybrid for this, and are generally very happy. I do wish BMW had engineered it to have a frunk, it seems odd they used up the entire 'engine compartment' for EV components. Nevertheless, we now own two EVs and are pleased. My kids love the Hans Zimmer sounds in the car. Well done.
Agree service network is very important which is why wasnt a fan of owning a Tesla and makes me hesitant buying a Rivian. The e-tron i own is amazing but may need a change of scenery!

One of the best reviews I have ever seen. You rock! I have a 2024 IX M60, and I wish I had waited for the 2025 model year, which is already available in Europe and as early as March 2024 in the U.S. The 2025 receives the new M-style steering wheel and dark accents for the interior instead of gold and bronze. Carbon fiber trim for the M60 would have been nice! I do agree with you, we do need that trailer hitch. It is often hard to put the kid's bike in the back. I also wished the range was better. So far, I am very disappointed with the range and the charging time. I hate the fact that BMW and other automakers get away with the "up to" range. What does that mean? I also wished they had the rear window sunshade. All my other BMW SAVs had them. One would think that for a special car like IX SAV they would have one.

Much like the Tesla's manual frunk access and the EQS service hood Mitchell mentioned, I'd imagine BMW prefers to keep the details of how to get in there down to a need-to-know basis. Page 354 of the user manual asks users to call a service department for 12V battery access information. It should be at least four or five years before any owner needs to make that call. That is very cool you have driven a Nio. Tesla now offers remote app viewing of the internal camera, too. We love the quality of materials here in the BMW IX and the comfort of the Mercedes EQS. We love to see strong EV competition from Germany. In the US, the public DC Fast charging network experience lags far behind what Tesla offers to its customers. Tesla also has the edge over BMW when it comes to outright efficiency. That said, we love to see the competition.
I ve read that bmw's ix model is coming up with 965+km range. If that happens ll be super cool😎. I ve seen around 10-12 reviews on this model but this was the best review i ve seen till date. R u on twitter so that i can follow u for the best electric upgrades!??

I didn't get one thing: - this lady says BMW has ended delivery for US. I had placed my order back in April, so will my order take its place to get delivered from Germany?
The European delivery program has been discontinued in the US. If you want to travel to Germany and have the experience of taking delivery at BMW's facility there, it is no longer offered to US buyers. Your vehicle will be shipped from Germany and sent to your dealer so you can take delivery there or you could have selected to take delivery at the Performance Center in South Carolina which includes museum and factory tours, plus track experience with a vehicle similar to the one you optioned for. It is a program BMW buyers have been familiar with for many years but now is not an option. This doesn't mean you won't be able to take delivery at all.. just specifically in Europe.
Wonderful review. Adding graphics post production is on point and helpful to the viewer. Excellent point on Tesla service levels, I feel I am on my own if anything happens to my 3.
Service networks don't seem to get enough attention from buyers. BMW is not increasing its total US output significantly, and has service in most medium to large cities. Some other brands which plan to double their output every year or two offer only one or two service locations per state in some cases.
This is one of the best and detail review. Is it true that the hood can only be opened by the BMW dealer? I am attractive with the interior and the ride but not on the exterior. The iX exterior looks like a conversion of ICE to EV. The EV does not need large ugly grill. I will wait for the next generation of iX to purchase one. I also want to know how reliable is the iX?
I was considering to ditch my Model Y dual motor to Genesis GV70 EV but it's 2025 model is still sitting at 75kwh with 410km range in Canada, 90km short of Y. I guess I need to cough up an extra $15K to get the range and comfort that I prefer. BMW Ix50

Very Nice Review. I’ve owned many BMW’s and this one looks as full featured as the best of the ones I’ve had. The experience I had with the most technology heavy one, 2002 745i was not good. The dealer had the car more than I did. I had the first one my dealer had received and it was $85k. Not sure I would run out and get the first year of this car but I’d want to. It actually does come with a tow hitch. There is a button you press on the inside rear of the vehicle when you open the trunk. The tow hitch deploys automatically from under the car. Then hides away when not in use.
Between the wide black bands around the rear and the big nose, I am conflicted about this design, to say the least. At 100 large with everything, except I would lose the old school Volvo glass interior pieces and the wood, which IMO so doesn't go with the futuristic and technological accomplishment of this vehicle, I would have to take a pass based on exterior beauty, or lack thereof. @@MissGoElectric thats an interesting statement. Which is true only at most if you go with EPA rating, something where Tesla notoriously underdelivers against and BMW overdelivers against. From most data available, the BMW ix 50 is more efficient than Model X. Here some data: WLTP - Model X has a rated consumption of 344 WH/mi, BMW ix 50 is 319 WH/mi rated consumpion (thats TEL); Edmunds measured 35 kWh / 100mi for Model X (long range), 32 kWh / 100 mi for the BMW ix 50
We do rely upon the United States Environmental Protection Agency efficiency ratings here in the United States. Model X LR is rated at 351mi and the lowest power iX is rated at 324. The figures you have posted are also inconsistent with our findings on a stock 2022 Tesla Model X Long Range (not plaid) with 20" wheels. Model X goes further with a much smaller battery. We agree with Autoguide when they said: "Those after the ultimate all-electric experience where performance and efficiency are concerned may lean towards the Model X for its superior range, power output, energy efficiency and interior volume." www.autoguide.com/car-comparisons/bmw-ix-vs-tesla-model-x-which-ev-suv-hits-the-mark
BMW's supplied Flexible Fast Charging cable is actually a full EVSE also capable of 9.6 kW charge speed when you plug it onto a NEMA 14-50 outlet. So if you decide to permanently mount it, it's the equivalent of the BMW wallbox.
I am sorry that grill does matter , it is so ugly . I will stay with my Genesis GV 60 I have 22K on it in 11 months the car has not missed a beat . Thank you for another great video.

@@MissGoElectric Yes thank you I did see it 10 months ago :) I am getting between 430 and 480 klm in comfort mode in Eco best has been 512 klm . we are very lucky in BC Canada lots of chargers . I have not paid for any charge since last Nov there are a lot of free charging stations at the moment. Thanks again for replying.
I had an incident in Hermosillo, Sonora, with my BMW iX xDrive50, which unexpectedly accelerated while turning at low speed, something that has been documented as an issue by the NHTSA in the United States, though there is no regulatory body to investigate it in Mexico. I’m concerned about the safety of this technology, as there have been other serious cases reported. However, BMW Mexico does not recognize this as a technical fault and claims it was human error, despite my request to exchange the vehicle to ensure my safety. The company will review my request with the distributor but requires payment of the deductible, leaving my concern about a potential defect in the vehicle unresolved.

They finally got their way and sealed the hood shut. You no longer have access to your own cars inner workings. Unbelievable. Only the dealership does! Wow. Talk about control.

Who is being trained to Repair these vehicle's? There is systems on this vehicle That are made complex and the cost to repair should frightened any consumer. This is for the wealthy consumer!
Christ! $80 to $100 grand? Are you nuts? The insurance will be through the roof! And will you look at the ugly front end! It's an EV! It doesn't need a front grill! Clearly some people have a lot of money to throw away on a car!
Yes it needs a grill to hide all the driver systems and insurance is less than my 2020 MDX. EVs are cheaper than their gas counterparts but what would you know. 80-100k is on point. You want a Model X it is 116,70 for a base model!

It is better than Audi and Mercedes electric SUV. I drove it 2 times in the last week and it is a great car. I can guarantee you have not driven it yet still manage to try to trash it because of efficiency. A luxury SUV is not efficient car get it through your head. How do the X5, Q7 GLE do on gas? Traded in our X5 Plug in hybrid for this, and are generally very happy. I do wish BMW had engineered it to have a frunk, it seems odd they used up the entire 'engine compartment' for EV components. Nevertheless, we now own two EVs and are pleased. My kids love the Hans Zimmer sounds in the car. Well done.

Agree service network is very important which is why wasnt a fan of owning a Tesla and makes me hesitant buying a Rivian. The e-tron i own is amazing but may need a change of scenery!
We much prefer the iX to eTron. Mercedes EQS SUV is also very luxurious. If you make the switch, let us know how it goes.

One of the best reviews I have ever seen. You rock! I have a 2024 IX M60, and I wish I had waited for the 2025 model year, which is already available in Europe and as early as March 2024 in the U.S. The 2025 receives the new M-style steering wheel and dark accents for the interior instead of gold and bronze. Carbon fiber trim for the M60 would have been nice! I do agree with you, we do need that trailer hitch. It is often hard to put the kid's bike in the back. I also wished the range was better. So far, I am very disappointed with the range and the charging time. I hate the fact that BMW and other automakers get away with the "up to" range. What does that mean? I also wished they had the rear window sunshade. All my other BMW SAVs had them. One would think that for a special car like IX SAV they would have one.

Maybe it has a hood latch hiding under a plastic cover like in the Mercedes EQS? Excellent question!
Much like the Tesla's manual frunk access and the EQS service hood Mitchell mentioned, I'd imagine BMW prefers to keep the details of how to get in there down to a need-to-know basis. Page 354 of the user manual asks users to call a service department for 12V battery access information. It should be at least four or five years before any owner needs to make that call.

The manual does show 2 hidden hood release cables, one on each side, but apparently they have to be pulled at the same time.

We love the quality of materials here in the BMW IX and the comfort of the Mercedes EQS. We love to see strong EV competition from Germany.
In the US, the public DC Fast charging network experience lags far behind what Tesla offers to its customers. Tesla also has the edge over BMW when it comes to outright efficiency. That said, we love to see the competition.

I didn't get one thing: - this lady says BMW has ended delivery for US. I had placed my order back in April, so will my order take its place to get delivered from Germany?
The European delivery program has been discontinued in the US. If you want to travel to Germany and have the experience of taking delivery at BMW's facility there, it is no longer offered to US buyers.
Your vehicle will be shipped from Germany and sent to your dealer so you can take delivery there or you could have selected to take delivery at the Performance Center in South Carolina which includes museum and factory tours, plus track experience with a vehicle similar to the one you optioned for.
It is a program BMW buyers have been familiar with for many years but now is not an option. This doesn't mean you won't be able to take delivery at all.. just specifically in Europe.

Wonderful review. Adding graphics post production is on point and helpful to the viewer. Excellent point on Tesla service levels, I feel I am on my own if anything happens to my 3.
Service networks don't seem to get enough attention from buyers. BMW is not increasing its total US output significantly, and has service in most medium to large cities. Some other brands which plan to double their output every year or two offer only one or two service locations per state in some cases.
This is one of the best and detail review. Is it true that the hood can only be opened by the BMW dealer? I am attractive with the interior and the ride but not on the exterior. The iX exterior looks like a conversion of ICE to EV. The EV does not need large ugly grill. I will wait for the next generation of iX to purchase one. I also want to know how reliable is the iX?
Much like the Mercedes EQS, the space beneath the iX hood is meant to be accessible to service teams only.

I was considering to ditch my Model Y dual motor to Genesis GV70 EV but it's 2025 model is still sitting at 75kwh with 410km range in Canada, 90km short of Y. I guess I need to cough up an extra $15K to get the range and comfort that I prefer. BMW Ix50

Very Nice Review. I’ve owned many BMW’s and this one looks as full featured as the best of the ones I’ve had. The experience I had with the most technology heavy one, 2002 745i was not good. The dealer had the car more than I did. I had the first one my dealer had received and it was $85k. Not sure I would run out and get the first year of this car but I’d want to. Thanks for another great review!

It actually does come with a tow hitch. There is a button you press on the inside rear of the vehicle when you open the trunk.
The tow hitch deploys automatically from under the car. Then hides away when not in use.
Currently available in Europe. Not in the US yet, as mentioned in the video.

Between the wide black bands around the rear and the big nose, I am conflicted about this design, to say the least. At 100 large with everything, except I would lose the old school Volvo glass interior pieces and the wood, which IMO so doesn't go with the futuristic and technological accomplishment of this vehicle, I would have to take a pass based on exterior beauty, or lack thereof. Thank you for a great review.

Quiet car = more acoustic material = more weight = less range.

A 2022 Tesla Model X is more powerful with comparable price, size, and weight. The Model X is more efficient.
@@MissGoElectric thats an interesting statement. Which is true only at most if you go with EPA rating, something where Tesla notoriously underdelivers against and BMW overdelivers against. From most data available, the BMW ix 50 is more efficient than Model X. Here some data:
WLTP - Model X has a rated consumption of 344 WH/mi, BMW ix 50 is 319 WH/mi rated consumpion (thats TEL); Edmunds measured 35 kWh / 100mi for Model X (long range), 32 kWh / 100 mi for the BMW ix 50
We do rely upon the United States Environmental Protection Agency efficiency ratings here in the United States. Model X LR is rated at 351mi and the lowest power iX is rated at 324.
The figures you have posted are also inconsistent with our findings on a stock 2022 Tesla Model X Long Range (not plaid) with 20" wheels. Model X goes further with a much smaller battery.
We agree with Autoguide when they said: "Those after the ultimate all-electric experience where performance and efficiency are concerned may lean towards the Model X for its superior range, power output, energy efficiency and interior volume."

BMW's supplied Flexible Fast Charging cable is actually a full EVSE also capable of 9.6 kW charge speed when you plug it onto a NEMA 14-50 outlet. So if you decide to permanently mount it, it's the equivalent of the BMW wallbox.

I had an incident in Hermosillo, Sonora, with my BMW iX xDrive50, which unexpectedly accelerated while turning at low speed, something that has been documented as an issue by the NHTSA in the United States, though there is no regulatory body to investigate it in Mexico. I’m concerned about the safety of this technology, as there have been other serious cases reported. However, BMW Mexico does not recognize this as a technical fault and claims it was human error, despite my request to exchange the vehicle to ensure my safety. The company will review my request with the distributor but requires payment of the deductible, leaving my concern about a potential defect in the vehicle unresolved.

Who is being trained to Repair these vehicle's? There is systems on this vehicle That are made complex and the cost to repair should frightened any consumer. This is for the wealthy consumer!
An electric F150 is less complex than its combustion engine counterpart with lower maintenance requirements.

Christ! $80 to $100 grand? Are you nuts? The insurance will be through the roof! And will you look at the ugly front end! It's an EV! It doesn't need a front grill! Clearly some people have a lot of money to throw away on a car!
You are right that this is not an economy car. We review eMobility products across price ranges.
Yes it needs a grill to hide all the driver systems and insurance is less than my 2020 MDX. EVs are cheaper than their gas counterparts but what would you know. 80-100k is on point. You want a Model X it is 116,70 for a base model!
Maybe this is a fluke, but my insurance will be the same as for my Mercedes S.

This is not an i4 and is much larger and more capable than an i3, but it is a good idea to consider the factors which matter most to you.

I can guarantee you have not driven it yet still manage to try to trash it because of efficiency. A luxury SUV is not efficient car get it through your head. How do the X5, Q7 GLE do on gas?
