When this movie came out, it was the era of extreme. Kids were way past getting in trouble by accident. Everyone wanted to be Stone Cold Steve Austin and do whatever they wanted because that's what they wanted to do. This isn't a great movie, but everything Adam Sandler's character does here is exactly what a 13 year old boy would do if they could get away with it. All the humour is playing to that PG-13 rating. The problem is that the script feels like it was written by a 13 year old boy. Sometimes that can work. But when it doesn't, you're just waiting for it to be over.
Don’t blame stone cold for this. He was retired most of 2002 and was a funny guy character in 2001. This is on the white boys too young for Woodstock 99

I mean not really, if you grew up with Christmas and know nothing about Hanukah how can you be expected to write a good Hanukah movie? Idk anything about Hanukah but I imagine it's more complicated than just "Replace tree with candles
As a Jew, I say there's a reason why Hanukkah movies are so few: Hanukkah doesn't carry the same sense of commercialism that Christmas does; it is a time of reverence, to reflect upon our freedom, and the fight our forefathers went through to restore it to us 3000 years ago; it's a time where we come together, celebrate each other, and feel a sense of gratitude for what we have; you could argue that since presents are involved, that should put Hanukkah in the same category as any other Holiday movie; but the reason we give gifts is to signify the bonds of love and dependence between parents and children, and vice versa as we get older; and I think a lot of us forget that sometimes. Adam Sandler certainly did. The theme of Hanukkah is sidelined for a main character, who is completely beyond tolerable at best, insanely immature and unlikable at worst, and a tragic backstory that's supposed to make us feel for him, but doesn't erase the misery he inflicted on his friends and everyone else. And it's chalk with crude jokes, disgusting, immature outdated gags that would not go down well with today's audience. And when all those brand mascots come together to guilt Davie into letting his grief out, when I saw it years ago, I was like "come on, Sandler, what holiday are you doing this for? And yes, the only thoroughly decent character, Whitey Duvall, is treated like ass the whole way through the film, not just by the characters, but by Adam Sandler himself. Now you'll just need the Star Wars Holiday special and y'all will be complete 😎. Edit: 12:10 yeah even at a you age I was confused about that joke and I thought when I got older I would understand it, but no 😂. Speaking of which this is one of the first edgy/raunchy films I watch as a kid and even back then I thought some stuff went to far like the porta potie scene and deer licking crap. Also, The comparisons to South Park was one Roger Ebert made and said it was that mixed with the Jackass films. Whats even more interesting is that when Doug Walker reviewed this film he received a letter from the director who said that he kept attaching the kindness Sandler showed him to the making of this film which is why he might take the criticism personally sometimes. He also mentioned that no one on production liked the Whitey voice including the focus group although they did not instruct to change it.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. This is a Christmas-Hanukkah classic.
Also, everyone puts up with his shit because it's a small town and his parents died in a horrible fiery car crash when he was 12.
Unpopular opinion: i love eight crazy nights it holds a special place in my heart and i watch it every christmas
Why does the first song sound like the very first Christmas song from SpongeBob.
It's about time, although this would have been better as a bad movie roast with Billy (an actual Jew) there, but still can't complain.

IDK I actually like Eight Crazy Nights yeah I see the problems but I understand it but I don't care I remember going to the show to see this when I was young and when my mom bought it on DVD we watched it every holiday time so to me once again it's a classic for me
I watched it for the first time the day before yesterday and I loved it
If you want a good Adam Sandler animated film, go watch Hotel Transylvania (the first one).
I didn’t realize this was a Hanukkah movie until like 3 years ago.
This is one of two movies where I prefer the TV edit for cutting down on the crap.
