Great video. You should include more videos like this, especially with mechanical diesel engines with a boost compensator. Would like to see how much more power and torque that can be gained with a proper tune on the dyno.
Hello from Norwegian living in Brazil. Next week Im off to Amazonas to buy a 1992 Landcruiser 75 with the 1PZ engine. (Maybe the only one in Brazil). Great to see your video since I need to turbo/intercool it. You know your stuff! The 2560 you tested out, was journal bearings or ball bearings? If it was for yourself, wich size of turbo would you use for early spool/torque? I need a mentor for my build. Is it possible to contact you private trough TH-cam? I will of course pay for the information. I will need to purchase lift and Australia is the place for this. Regards, Chris
That turbo was a really good match for a mild setup. even on the uncompensated injector pump was very little smoke low down. would have been more in it with more boost more fuel and an intercooler. turbo is ball bearing. factory turbo off a s15 nissan silvia
@@Garage4age Thank you for your reply. Sorry I missed that graph. If you had turned up the boost to the double. Would the graph showing torque be higher from 1650rpm already or will it come further out in the rpm range?
@@cga3067 yeah probably. Depends on fueling also. Unsure what the stock injector pump is good for. The guy that owns the truck just wanted it to go bit better up hills and the likes
Had to google what the hell a 1PZ engine was. Man, only 85kW at the crank from a 3.5l engine is piss weak, i guess that's NA diesels for ya. But it does sound really nice.
Its definitely no race car ! I also had no idea toyota made a 5 cylinder diesel till this thing showed up. have to agree on the sound, is the best thing about it
I always wanted to see one of those big, old diesels with compressor, for example unit from Merc 1.8L, 2.3L or 3.2V6. Installation shoud be easier than with turbo, no lag, instant response, lower intake temperature. Think about it :)
I would run a intercooler if it were mine. but this simple setup should have a bit more in it. maybe a little bit more fuel and boost when clutch fixed
Seems like a pretty good match to me. whole power curve is bumped up. doesn't fall away up top. works well with stock un-compensated pump. said injector pump will be the limit rather than the turbo.
from what i can tell, the "1PZ" engine is the same as the "1HZ" just missing a cylinder. so yeh obviously the 1hz will make a small amount more power. but otherwise i wouldn't be too worried either way
Probably. Was basically at the point were it needed more boost before adding more fuel. as owner didn't want to be smokey. but clutch issues. owner was happy with how it went after fixing clutch. so it hasn't come back for more.
Yeah, It would have showed a bit more power on the dyno with some smaller road tyres, run up in 4th gear. Was more interested in the comparison rather than the numbers, so the low speed 3rd gear runs are fine
Only fuel. Will have a bit more left in it with more adjustments. but will need at least a clutch first. its not doing too bad for stock uncompensated injector pump.
Its only just getting enough fuel into it for the little boost its running. Got to get that balance right, May try for more fuel and boost if the owner wants more, once clutch fixed
@@moonbrothers9098 compensator wont give any more fuel over what the injector pump can supply without it. they are more there to take away the excess fuel when engine is off boost. This one is a pretty mild setup and turbo comes on boost early. so doesn't really have overfueling issue with the non compensated pump.
@@Garage4age Really My 1pz is running 20lbs and the difference between having a boost comp and not was life changing? Im desperate to put it on a dyno and give it a proper tune. do you have a contact?
I can assume that's a mechanical fuel pump with no boost reference? So you're able to get "power smoke" if you floor it too fast before it's up on boost? Wuld hav been interesting to see how much power you could have get out of it before the turbo just by adjusting the fuel 🤔 of course the egt is much safer with extra air but still would have been a nice thing to try out

Its interesting seeing someone doing diesel tuning
Awesome video mate. Was just looking at buying a PZJ70 today and the plans to turbo it. Anymore of this truck would be wicked
sweet, will do if it comes back after clutch is fixed
a bit of timing on the pump would probably help a decent amount as well. nice work!
such a good video in 4:22 minutes!!
Next try the baby cones.. You know those little ones. lol🤷♂️
congratulations! need a mac truck dog on front
That's pretty straight old cruiser hard to find them like that these days

used a double banjo on the vac pump oil feed. and welded fitting to sump.

And how much the EGT raise up? :P
What turbo kits you used ?
Next video "how much psi does it take to send a rod out the block " 🤔
maybe this one should have been called how much psi till the clutch slips
Don't think diesel cares as long as EGTs and RPM within acceptable limits. It's too much fuel that'll kill it, not boost.
