Peter from Germany here. I hope all the positive comments help you to go on with these videos. This is a wonderful idea to teach customers and drivers for a better understanding of our Urals. Thank you very much for your time to make these videos.
Excellent videos.... as a Canadian who is getting close to retirement and wanting to decide on a retirement gift to myself, these videos help dispell myths, fears, etc of owning a Ural. You are getting me closer to the purchase......
Matt Dynes Hi Matt - I have had bikes for many decades ha ha . BSA’s, Harley, Honda’s, etc. Still have a Honda NC 700 and a 1953 Matchless. I picked up my Ural in Ottawa and dove it the 300 miles north to home without ever having a Sidecar experience. Have never had a problem with any handling issues and find them quite easy to drive in spite of all the cautionary advice one seems to encounter on the internet. Just take it slow and easy until used to things and just keep ramping up your skill level gradually. I plan to drive mine all winter and looking forward to it.
@@stupollock6851 Hey thanks Stu..... I'm a fellow Canuck in Whitby and like you, have ridden everything under the sun. I assume you bought it from Wheelsport? Would love to see a pic of your rig. Feel free to touch base thru FB messenger if you are so inclined. Cheers!
Roque from Honduras, Central America: Great Video! thanks for share those short videos especially in my case where I do not has a local dealer to help me to make adjustment to my 2018 Ural gear up.
Dear Sir please note, I live in Australia and have already conducted an advanced Ural motorcycle training course. I currently do not yet have a Ural as I need to sell some of my current motorcycles to make space in my garage for the Ural However, I find your tutorial TH-cam video's very useful, so please keep up the good work, by the way I am 64 years old and have been riding since about 1972 Thanks again
Thank you very much for the videos. Have enjoyed. The brake adj has helped just got a email from my dealer who closed tell me how to adj them, nice to have a video to reassure us. Ed Vonderbeck on the road fulltime Retired and lovings my 2018 Gearup
Love these detailed tutorials!! As Ural is a motorbike that much of the work has to be self servicing and not many are not mechanical aware and I think even for many this will be their first bike. These videos help to dispell the fear many could have. My dream is to have eventually an Ural. And these videos, make my dream closer to reality. Thank you.
You are awesome. Thank you very much for your patience in showing the detail and both the ins and outs of the adjustment process. If Alex still works there, tell him I said, "Hi" (-:
Thank you for that exzellent Presentation. Also good to understand for me :-). What I like to do next, is to adjust my parking brake - best regards from Germany.
Good evening, just had a chance to watch the video on Brake adjustment , very helpful very informative thank you, a new Ural gear up owner of one week, So excited about being a part of this new community, Thank You for what you do.!
thanks for these videos. I am 3 weeks into my 1st Ural 2018 Gear Up and have learned quite a bit about these from your content. I will adjust my sidecar bias friday am. It does pull to the right. thanks, mike from michigan
As a new 2021 Ural owner theses videos are great.. Our dealership Is several hours away so it’s a case of it do it ourselves. They put the chair however on the left side over here so that generally creates some differences in the approaches. Nevertheless the information and the explanation is really helpful.. Thanks from Australia..
This was incredibly helpful, thank you for making the video and posting it. Both the parking brake adjustment and the sidecar brake relative adjustment. And the demo of slewing left vs right vs staying centered was incredibly clear. Much appreciated.
These videos are great, especially if you’ve had a Ural for several years and have been doing Your adjustments from the factory flier (we Wouldn’t call it a Manual) which leaves a Lot of reading between the lines and you are the type that learns more from Seeing it being done than a thousand words would do... Nice small points inserted here...!!! 😎👍✅
David, another great video. Thanks. Your videos are very instructional and tremendous, especially for those of us who are nowhere near a dealer. Hopefully someday in the future you will do a video showing you actually lubricating the universal on the engine drive shaft when it is on the bike rather than just saying it is difficult to get to and mechanics use a certain kind of grease gun. After 6 years I still have to remove the rear wheel to be able to lube the grease fitting. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming.
You guys are a wonderful Godsend. I just got word my 2015 gear up qualified for the wheel replacement recall. I’m stoked. Had some cracks on my front wheel for over 2 years.
Thanks for presenting in a concise ordered manner. I have watched several of your videos and none of them bore me. That can't be said for 80% of TH-cams inane claptrap. Maybe you could write a book on Ural ownership. For seldom is found such clear thinking put in a way everybody can understand both the subject and you. - Thankyou.
Thanks for the video! Trying to adjust my sidecar brake and its close, just pulling to the left slightly. Have been carrying a 10mm box wrench in my pocket. Pulled into a parking lot the other nite to make a small adjustment and when I looked up the local sheriff had pulled up to me and was smiling asking me if I was ok. Startled me but it was nice of him to stop and ask. He offered to race me but I had to get home.
This is the exact info I was looking for. I am new to Ural. I noticed my Ural was rolling with the parking brake set. I'm looking forward adjusting the brake to prevent this.
Dave, thanks for the amazing effort you put in to demystify the adjustments and maintenance on these machines. I’m an old dirt/street guy. I lost a leg to a drunk driver while riding my bike, but want to get back out there now that I’m retired. I’ve always done the overwhelming amount of maintenance on my machines over the years, and thanks to your tutorials, feel comfortable continuing to do so. I’m 3 weeks away from slapping my deposit down on a Gear Up, and spending some long overdue trips into the Great North Woods. I might be riding a lot slower than the young folks out there this spring, but I can guarantee that I’ll be enjoying it more than almost all of them.
Another excellent and very thorough walkthrough video! Your videos are very appreciative by us Ural owners who are miles away from a certified dealer. Please follow up with a video for replacing brake pads. Thank you much!
These videos you put out are GREAT! If there's something that needs being done on mine (2016 Gear Up Ambassador), I know I can find an excellent how-to video on this channel, and they are worth their weight in gold! Thanx very much, David, for putting these together for us.
Thank you so much for the detailed information on all the adjustments. Please continue. Want to know more on the light adjustments, tyre pressure recommendations, shocks adjustments recommendations, may be recovery after water crossing tutorial and many more.
Hi David! These videos are so very helpful keeping my 2022 spot-on. I fairly confident in my clutch-cable adjustment but would rest a bit easier if you could give us a short tutorial on course and fine clutch cable adjustment. Many thanks!
Great work Dave and all your videos are very much appreciated by your URAL customers. Good to see a motorcycle company who actually values their customer feedback and wants to engage with their customers. Don’t pay any attention at all to the negative comments of any ..Trolls, just ignore them, because life is simply too short to waste even a minute of your own time on any such total ..Losers..! 😉👍
I have a brand new ural and the foot brake pedal seems to take a large 20-30 degree arc before brakes actuate. How can I adjust that actuation lever position? Since the lever is right under the peg there doesn’t seem to be a way to bring up the pedal. Doing quick stops is harder because toe has to press down so far before any braking occurs. Thanks!
Really appreciate the information, knowledge and effort on your videos. Great info on balancing sidecar/ rear wheel brake bias.. Learned a new trick. At some point a video on sidecar caster /camber set up just as a checkpoint to make sure they are coming properly set up from dealer or old owner. .Again thanks. 2008 Tourist owner Billy from OZ
These are great videos. How about one for corrosion control maintenance of the bike and sidecar frames? I was seeing some red rust residue from a couple of spots on the sidecar frame that were trapping water. Fixed with small drain holes / paint and liberal application of corrosionX in all the places water can collect including in those tubes with plastic plugs . Got to be a huge issue in places with salt on the roads / winter.
Thanks for this great video! These are adjustments one can do oneself. Is the Ural supposed to track straight when you just let it roll without throttle input? Keep up the good work! You help us understand how a sidecar rig is supposed to function and what to do and what not to do. I also like, that you tell us what better to leave to the dealership.
Just bought a lovely bronze metallic gear up and this issue has been driving me mad!! So well done- spot on. Any chance of a rear wheel tutorial on an Australian model with sidecar on the left. Mine is a new 2-wheel drive model and I think changing rearaa tyre looks like a pain to do. Regards and good luck Ural.
Great video, and I find these video series very useful, thank you! Question, I have an older 2012 Ural Gear Up, do you have plans to make a similar video for older brake systems?
Excellent video Dave, as always. I have a 2022 Gear Up and I notice that my rear brake pedal travels pretty far before the brake engages. It's rather uncomfortable having to push down so far when hard braking. Can I adjust this at the pedal to reduce the pedal travel without affecting the brake bias with the sidecar?
Excellent video thanks. Stupid question. Why have guard 6mm and adjustment two 10mm - why not have as many nuts in same size for same job. Just me thinking about lessening what’s needed but I’m sure a good reason.
Great video... thanks. That is exactly how I have been adjusting the parking brake on my 2018 Gear Up. However, I find that after a ride, the parking brake no longer holds the bike in place. It’s like the normal wear on the brake pads after a ride have thrown it out of adjustment. What kind of adjustment intervals do you expect on a Ural? I have pretty much given up on it. Any advice would be appreciated - thanks again!
Adjustment interval is usually after initial break in on a new motorcycle at the first service (new brake pads wear in and new cable will stretch a bit). After replacing brake pads, maybe a couple hundred miles to brake them in and it may need an adjustment. What you are experiencing is too frequent, do you have a dealer that can inspect the caliper? There may be something else going on.
I’m a new Ural owner 2015 gear up. Was wondering where most owners order parts (other than EBay)? I’ve seen some modifications on sidecars (electric, sound, etc)...are there any websites that offer guidance? Thanks!
I have a 2016 that I bought used. It's been a thorn due to prior owners neglect. Iv changed the differential and the fuel injection to tge new style system. First ride out after that, about 3 miles down the road and the side car break locked up (was very hot). I'm hoping this video helps me figure it out. I've only been able to put about 60 miles on the bike since purchase. Diff made noise day 2. Fixed that and got caught in a rainstorm that shorted out one side throttlebody. No parts availability so all new system. Now this.....ugg
