    These are great videos, they have helped a lot. One small issue. Around time 8:45 you mention that very important Distant Washer.
    If you have to replace it measure its outside diameter before ordering and the one you receive before starting reassembly.
    I had to replace it on my 2009 gear-up. The dealer order it “by part number” and a different size washer arrived. The required diameter for mine is 28.79mm, the one that Ural shipped was 30.88mm. Needless to say it did not fit. Probably have to wait weeks for the right part.

    Great video David, I will need to pull the axle to replace the splined shaft because previous owner did not think grease was necessary for moving metal parts!

      Hello Harry from Australia! Very similar for the lefty rigs. With the basics covered in this video you can most assuredly figure out the few unique differences between the left hand and right hand models with minimal effort. Thank you for replying!

    Great presentation. I have a 2006 Patrol and have long discover that for my type of riding, I don't engage the 2wd system. Is there any advantage to permanently removing the sidecar driveshaft?

      You'd want to cap off the final drive so you don't get any gunk messing with the splines where the shaft would go. And you'd lose a bit of ballast helping to keep the sidecar down. And there is still that .0001% chance you'd want your 2WD.

    Perhaps cover it in the next video, but when you lube the splines do you suggest a moly-based spline lube like Staburags, Honda Moly or another similar product to avoid fretting?

      Robert, thank you for posting this question. This is a very good topic and I feel it should be covered independently, The grease conversation is like the oil conversation, everyone has an opinion. I'll address this as unbiased as I can in a future video. I think it deserves more attention than a few words in the video that follows this one. Right now I can confirm the factory currently uses Motul Moly Grease on splined joints and Motul Tech Grease 300 for universal joints, axles and pivot points. Staburags products, Honda products , Amsoil Synthetics, and more brands are all reliable choices. Whatever your choice, make sure the grease being used and the grease being applied are compatible. Greases as I'm sure you know have thickeners and other additives that are not always compatible and will degrade the other product. If your unsure of what was used previously, degrease completely and start fresh with the new grease. Thank you again Robert, truly appreciate the interaction.

      And let me tell you that any grease you use is better than the NO grease that the previous owner of my bike used!

    Another helpful video! I know it’s a minor detail, but do you recommend against replacing pinch clamps with the screw-style clamps? If so, is there any reason beyond aesthetics?

      URAL used to use worm-drive style clamps too. They switched partly for aesthetics, partly for time. Faster to install during sidecar setup. I’ve used nylon zip ties in a pinch but they aren’t tight enough to keep debris out long term. Use a clamp that works for you and fits well without a tail flapping around while the driveshaft spins. Keep the splines lubed and the rubber boot tight and your golden no matter the style clamp.

    Great video and well done. Question, can I leave off the sidecar driveshaft and just have one wheel drive? I never use the two wheel drive option.

    Hello David, you call it a distance washer the shim or spacer behind the wheel that came out when you were tapping on the axle . You mentioned it being a wear item looking for burrs or wear. Is there a minimum allowable thickness? There may be axle shaft end play (axial play)as well. Any specs? I do notice that Ural is pretty basic but after working on motorcycles all my life a lot of times some manufacturers do specify more than others. I mean back when my grandfather Vladimir did Jawas and CZs times were different. I do like the idea of of the nut on backwards also I like brass drifts. Sometimes wood or rubber is too bouncy or soft. But I did notice the tapered end of your drift seem to stick in that hole I would be concerned of it expanding the diameter just as something too hard mushrooming the end.

    I'm a new, proud Gear Up owner. My concern is getting a flat while out in the boonies. Is there a way to temporarily fix a flat tire without having to put the spare on. I'm mechanically challenged female.

      Hello Laura, welcome to the URAL family! Depending on the type of flat. A puncture can sometimes be mended temporarily with a tire/tube sealant which are readily available from many different brands. That and a CO2 tire inflator can sometimes get you to a place to have the tube and/or tire replaced. If you put anything in the tire/tube like a flat sealant it is common curtesy to tell the the person who is fixing the flat what you put in because it can cause a mess inside and they should be prepared for that. Anything beyond a puncture you'll need to replace the flat with the spare. If you practice you'll get good at it, we have videos to help too... th-cam.com/video/fveestum_W0/w-d-xo.html

    Yes, good video.!! BUT we want to just take the driveshaft of of our 2015 Patrol and drive it as a
    ONE wheel drive bike but can’t even Begin to get the Sidecar “Universal Joint” loose/ off to finish taking the rest of the sidecar (2wD) shaft off 🤷🏻‍♂️ You have Any Videos of taking the Universal Joints of of the 2014-2016 Urals as they seem to be the worst (impossible) to remove from the Yokes.??!! 🤔😫

    Thanks again for the video, David! Just wondering - if I'm removing the driveshaft, and therefore doing some pushing/pulling on the bearings at the wheel, do I need to replace them when reinstalling the driveshaft? Just asking as I'm looking to go with the CV driveshaft upgrade that's now available. Thanks!

      Glad you like it! LOL, you'll be fine, once you see it you'll probably remember it. It's pretty straight forward when your looking at the bike like IKEA instructions, put axle (A) into hole bearing (B).

      Sam I know my promises mean little at this time as I've said I would get it done for months now. I still plan to do that video to wrap up the series but my "free to do as I please" beginning of COVID-era schedule isn't as open as it was. Your videos are really great and touch on subjects that are of interest to me and URAListas everywhere. However.... I'm coming up on 12,000 miles on my front tire and really need to change it. I suppose a few more K miles until the belts show won't hurt anything ! ... (again kidding!!!!!!!) Love the bike ... I'm a huge fan... Thanks for all you do to support the community

    My GU sidecar driveshaft "wobbles" since new (400 miles now on it). Is this a concern or do I have a slightly warped shaft?

    Hi David. I have spoken earlier about your video but forgot to ask a question. Forgive me if it has been covered. Both the main drive shaft and the sidecar drive shaft require splined shafts. As does my 4x4. However, my 4x4 has a grease nipple(zerk fitting) to enable grease to pass into the splined connection. If this were available, I believe much time may be saved by not needing to separate the splines just to apply some grease. Any chance this may be possible??? Please, please.
