I wish they kept Armin dead. Kinda make"s the last ep less impactful. Great season tho.
But it did made Erwin's death all the more impactful... besides, if this hadn't happened we would have lost one of the best and most emotional moments of the whole series.

Him saying I cant breath but not yet, I got to give it everything. THen him dying like a soldier. Even tho Eren and mikasa were basically always kind of protecting him. He stood on his own. Him saying eren will see the ocean for both of us..(.tears dude). But now looking back, knowing he lived. Kind of cheapens that.
@Walter White the thing about Erwin is that we got his full backstory and character development in season 2 and the first half of season 3, so I started to care about him... I understand why you feel like that about Armin coming back to life but at least we can agree that it wasn't a cheap resurrection.

Major props to all the voice actors, especially Eren's, Mikasa's, and Hange's. The pain in their voices made me cry pretty damn hard.
The direction in this episode was also amazing. No intro and no music until the end. Just voice acting and sound effects. Even felt pretty bad for Bertoldt, whom I never thought I could feel sorry for after the hundred of thousands he killed.
This whole episode was just pain lol :(

I'm surprised they made Bertolt go out like that. He already said he could accept whatever the outcome of the battle would be because the world is cruel. But then he begs for help at the very end? I felt like they ruined his character development with that scene.

Similarly to when Floch joined the Survey Corps, he was confident that he could succeed, then when he's facing death head on he chickens out. Bertoldt was the same, he was confident, but then he wakes up with his arms and legs gone and a Titan grabbing him. Confusion form that alone would make anyone scream and beg for help.

after seeing this episode and remembering when i read the chapter in the manga it made me happy when eren handed mikasa the L later one, dam she is annoying and if she took the injection by force and used it, levi out ranks them all its insubordination, literally emotion driven meat head.
Man even though i knew Bertholdt was gonna die and that he had it coming/deserved it, im still at a loss for words with his death. When you read into his story in the manga you cant help pitty him.

No opening, there's no OST and just silence all throughout up until the injection was given, and then it all ends with "Sayonara, world" in the ending. They really did a fantastic job conveying the atmosphere of the aftermath!
Loved Eren's dedication to Armin as well! In his last moments, Armin entrusted everything to Eren and Eren in turn, fought for Armin until the very end.
The voice-acting was also fantastic! Kaji (Eren) and Yui (Mikasa) really gave it their all, especially Yui. The way she portrayed Mikasa this episode did not disappoint. Her crying out as she was held back by Hange was just heartbreaking.
Loved how it came full circle in a way with what Kenny said when it came to Levi picking Armin or Erwin. The way I saw it, Armin had a real dream and aspirations whereas Erwin was more driven by an obsession. Armin's ambitions surpassed Erwin's and was more long-term compared to what Erwin really wanted. That and Levi finally freed Erwin from his sense of responsibilities for those mountain of corpses he was hallucinating. Kenny basically alluded to the fact that death frees people from the hell of spending the rest of their lives being a slave to something. Bringing back Erwin would've brought him back to hell, and he really deserves to rest. Overall, it was really nice to see Kenny having a lasting effect on Levi here.
Bertholdt's death screams was pretty sad and haunting for me. The way he cried out for his friends before realizing what was happening by how they were all staring back in horror and sadness, and then how he started calling out for Annie and Reiner...Just ouch.
Sayonara Erwin, Bertholdt, Moblit, Marlo, all the scouts, and Hange's left eye...

@@helloworld-sl2lw That's Hange's fault she is a bit dumb at the moment. They are not lost without Erwin, they are lost without a proper leader who can cook a proper plan and see ten steps ahead. Erwin would always gamble, he never thought ahead of time.
Erwin was a commander after Keith resigned for only a couple of years but only when Eren showed up with his power Erwin could do something. Prior to that, he couldn't change shit on his own before Eren graduated. He would use others to achieve his goals.

Must have been really hard on Levi too. Other than Hange, Erwin was probably the last of his "old friends" from when he joined the survey corps. I like how Levi's response to Erwin's passing was a simple "oh." with a forlorn look on his face - it was a perfect expression of grief in line with Levi's personality.

It's about Armins dream, he knew that if Erwin accomplished his dream by going to the basement (maybe) he might give up or not fight as hard. But Armins dream is the incarnation of what the Survey Corps stand for - exploration outside the walls. He chose the leader who had more "longevity"
He still got Hange and his decision to save Armin for sure have earned him respect from Eren and Mikasa.

It was subtle, but the question Erwin asked was the question that got his father killed. The anime never told you what the question was until that moment. That question alone set Erwin on the path to take extreme risk and sacrifice so many men and women in the Survey Corps. For the sake of finding the truth, he became a devil.

Levi took a risk by letting Zeke live, why? because he hoped he could (maybe) save one soldier (but really Erwin). That is what I meant. Erwin specifically asked Levi to kill the Beast Titan and Levi failed, rendering Zeke's defeat Pyric victory.
Levi still is my favorite character, but if the others hadn't taken out Bertholdt and Reiner (whom they also led escape for the same dumb reason). Then this would ALL have been for nothing, Levi was lucky they at least didn't let Bertholdt escape, otherwise they would have lost most of their corps and Erwin for NOTHING.
Not sure why I used "bitched out", rather what I meant was that Levi just stood there and watched as the titan on all fours escaped with Zeke. That was completely unrealistic, Levi would have shot a hook into that thing and given pursuit immediately rather than let Zeke escape.

I cried throughout the whole episode XD I already knew what was going to happen, but Mikasa's voice actor broke the shit out of me when she started screaming/crying, when Hange was holding her XD All the voice actor's did amazing here, omg.

What an amazing episode! and just to clarify on why levi ended up choosing armin in the end the whole point of the flashback of Kenny was to emphasize what he taught Levi about human nature. Everyone is "drunk" on something (their dream). When they lose that thing to be drunk on, they're not the same person. Levi recognized that Erwin's dream was limited (going to the basement) and that he wouldnt be the same after they got there. Armin's dream is one that is never ending. Armin wanted to see the outside world. The ocean, the desert, volcanoes, the arctic. Levi knew that Erwin would have a very limited time of usefulness even if he was revived. Levi revived Armin because he saw the potential.

@@anngelllll No problem! what i meant by that was had erwin been revived and managed to reach the basement and achieve his dream he wouldn't have any desire or ambition to fight or even save humanity all he cared about was proving his dad right and learning the secret of the basement, so the power of the colossal titan would be wasted on him its just like kenny said what keeps people going are their dream's take that away and they wouldn't have a reason to fight, levi thought about that and so he chose armin.
It’s so crazy because in the video of you guys reacting to AOT: Ep: 23 when the female titan was revealed, Patric said that if Erwin dies Armin should take over. So it’s crazy how they actually had to choose between those two.

Mikasa is basically the same as Levi in terms of fighting capability the only way to differentiate between Ackerman's is age (Levi>Kenny), mental and physical situation (Mikasa>Levi)...You're the one who seems pretty idiotic as this is implied in the anime and manga multiple times. If it were to come down to a fight where Eren's life is in danger Mikasa would murder pretty much anyone 1v1 lol.

I was not ready for this episode even despite being a manga reader. The voice acting, the direction, the emotion. It was just unbelievable. This episode broke me. Especially the part when Erwin said, "Levi, thank you." That's all he needed to hear. When Mikasa started crying and Hange reflecting on how she wanted to also save others.. hundreds of them. I was in tears. Attack on Titan, you have outdid yourselves...........

When you think that they are all teenagers here, and that Bertold saw the group of scouts looking at him, and realizing that no one was coming to his help, as his last words, he cried for Annie and Reiner. That was really poignant to me.

No background music, no op. This episode was dialed up to 11 out 10 on the seriousness meter. The tension between characters was so well done. To quote Sam from iCarly: "You can feel the tension in the air...". Amazing! I didn't think they'd be able to stretch the decision between Armin or Erwin into 22 minutes but they did!
And best of all....the next episode! I can't wait a week! It's literally titled "The Basement". No shits or giggles. Just straight to the part we've waited YEARS for!

Hell, I read the manga and was still unbelievably moved by this episode. Knowing what happens doesn’t change a thing because this episode is all about the emotion of the ‘choice’ and they did a fantastic job with it.

I don’t blame how any of the characters reacted during this moment. No one would realistically just sit there & watch someone dear to them die without a fight. Levi was given the syrum and one in charge for making the decision. I saw someone say levi was selfish for being firm on who he wanted to save. It may seem see that way, but you put yourself in that situation. If this was between saving your sibling or someone else. I don’t know about y’all, but i’m going to want to save my family. Period. But then I would be so pressured, conflicted, & feel bad upon seeing the other person’s loved ones faces. Let me remind you all that we are all human and i’m sure we have all had at least one selfish thought or done smtg that would be deemed selfish. In some situations in real life depending on context, you have to be sometimes. I LOVE how aot really shows these human sides of us. You got the veteran trio who have formed a close bond all these years.Ofc they weren’t about to let him go just like that at first. Then you have EMA trio who I sort of see as their younger counterparts. They also have the tight knit relationship and gone through hell together as well. Props to each side holding their ground and not giving in so easily. I would want someone to fight for my life like that as well.True ogs on both sides.
Erwin’s master class speeches, leadership, and ability to call the most crucial shots was second to none. Not the only reason, but he is a big reason why they got this far from way back even before these kids time.This is someone that you can’t just replace just like that. So let’s not be quick to quickly diminish his impact. His quest to achieve his dream might have seemed selfish, but it’s not like humanity would not benefit from it as well. It was a win win situation.Two things i have seen used against him.1.Not having a plan for the future once dream is accomplished.I get that it seemed risky in this regard to choose him. I kinda think that it was unfair to judge so easily on that @ the same time.In real life, how many of us have gotten asked “what are your plans after x goal/event”? This happens to many & some come up blank. Because one can’t foresee the future & its not good to count your chickens before they hatch.They did not anticipate running into the BT & co. 2)Sacrificing others. Well he had no choice on that side but to use himself and others as bait. If he only went onto that suicide charge, there would be no way levi could sneak up on BT. Going out there to give your hearts is apart of being a scout.Like he said, if it wasn’t for the sacrifice from former scouts, they wouldn’t have gotten here. It was either this or they all die getting hit waiting like sitting ducks.
No onto armin. You could make a strong case for this young man as well. He might not be this very strong vocal person or strong titan slayer but! His head of his and ability to see what’s not on the surface level is also irreplaceable.You can’t just bring in some other random smart kid & expect the same results. He freaking figured out annie’s true identity, the whole plugging up trost call, enemies hiding in the walls, & the demise of the collosal titan. There was no one on that side that was gonna come up with the plan he thought of. It came down to him. The amount of pressure and nerves. And he comes up to sacrifice himself without pondering about it. Not to mention he had to lie to his best friend. His death would also be a huge blow to humanity. Like erwin even said along these lines himself “he is one of humanity's greatest weapons”. You can’t deny this fact no matter who u would personally choose. And lastly, it would also be tragic not to see this boy’s dream of discovering more of the world come true.
In conclusion, there was NO right or wrong choice. This was a “No Regrets” choice in the end for Levi. To just hope that the choice you made was the right one because one can’t see the future. Either choice i can’t be mad at all. Reaction would be the same. It’s a shame there wasn’t two to use. Two titans were at their disposal. Perfect opportunity but unfortunately things are unfair sometimes. Because despite all the talk about letting erwin finally rest, IF erwin was the only one showing signs of life ,we know he would been saved & much sooner cuz no conflict. I was already spoiled on this detail but the show did a good job on foreshadowing this stuff. Armin was getting pushed into the role fairly quickly and you could tell by the way erwin talked that this was his final stand. RIP Erwin. My heart is still very heavy. You will forever be the GOAT. Wish you could have at least seen your dream. I’d gladly go into battle with you. For armin, i’m glad that this second opportunity went to you & not into enemies hands. Excited to see what this next chapter brings for you & to see your character grow even more (literally lol). Let’s make the most of this choice & be the best version of yourself!
