Taken from her instructional video from 1996. She calls this Silver Wheels, which is also the title of the instrumental she plays on Bebe Le Strange. It is the same song, just different parts of it...if you check out live performances of her doing the intro to COY, you can see she intertwines them as she usually includes segments of the Bebe Le Strange version. She also sometimes likes to throw in a few bars of the song Hijinx from the Dog and Butterfly album, as well as a bit from Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. I tried to learn it at one point, and got it down for the most part. I really didn't think to use a pick though, I just assumed I had to use finger picking because of how crazy it sounded. I definitely didn't play it nearly as clean as her.

Nancy has been teaching guitar since she was a pre-teen. Teaching other kids and adults. Professionally.
That's probably because she doesn't know the technical terms. It's kind of embarrassing to other musicians.

This video illustrates exactly why nobody can ever dismiss Heart as just a simple "chick" band. Both Ann and Nancy are the fucking real deal. So musical. So creative. Very much pioneers for women's rock music. Props.....
Oh heck no. The first time I heard 'Magic Man' I was blown away, and had a hard on at the same time! I did not know they had a girl guitarist. Then when I found out Nancy played guitar I thought she played all the guitar, and I thought she was one of the best out there.

Biff Malibu lol I will be honest, back in the 70s and early 80s when I would only hear them on the radio I could take them or leave them . Then they went through the big hair glamour faze and lost me for years. Then in the later 90s till present I started seeing videos of them that were really well made not MTV videos but videos of them playing and I saw them in concert and my opinion of them has completely changed! Yes, they are the real deal for sure and extremely talented. The best female band ever I would say.

Nancy is an incredible talent. Aside from that, both her and Ann made a phenomenal team. I feel honored having had the opportunity to not only work with Heart but to also meet every original band member. It's been well over 40 years. ... Damn how time flies. If only to be able to go back to those glory days. Keep rockin Nancy.

First time I have ever seen a rock and roll legend give a guitar tutorial. She's so sweet and humble. I first heard Heart on the radio in the 1970s when I was a young teenager. I am now 62, and anytime I turn on Classic Rock radio I hear a song by Heart. Speaks volumes about their staying power. Rock legends. Well done.

Ann and Nancy’s performance of “Stairway to Heaven” on Kennedy Center Honors’ tribute to Led Zep was outstanding. It brought Robert Plant to tears.

Matt Foster Absolutely! From what I understand, Jason Bonham playing on “Stairway” was intended as a surprise for Plant, Page and Jones. His presence on stage unquestionably moved them.

Wow, just wow! incredible music, incredible playing, and an incredibly humble soul. I love her non technical, but dead accurate names for some of what she's doing with her left hand. but she's doing a great job of showing it too!!! I was trying to learn it via tab and it was just too overwhelming. Seeing this, now i understand how she does it... i'll still never be able to play it anywhere NEAR as good as she did but i think i got the gist of it by watching this.

She’s talking about flageolet tones (touching the strings halfway lightly), and binding of several notes with her left hand (which are making the chords on the frets) and improvising while playing this.

I saw Heart in 2010. Ann was 60, and Nancy was 56 (I think). They rocked harder and better than any other band I've ever seen. Ann's voice is well known (I'd say the best voice in Rock), but Nancy has to be seen to be believed. As she was playing blistering guitar licks, she'd suddenly launch through the air, across the stage like an Olympic athlete, and gracefully land - never missing a note. Incredible.
I took a friend who had never been to a rock concert before. Afterward, she said "That was amazing - my heart is pounding!". I said "Yeah. It doesn't get better than that...'. I stand by that... :)
Nancy has said that she likes to 'channel Jimmy Page onstage'. Makes sense doesn't it!

Their dad taught at our junior high in Bellevue Wa. He got them to come and play, once before fame, once after. They were amazing unpretentious, and to this 13 year old at the time, the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Major props to both!

She used to sit in the courtyard at Interlake High School and play her guitar, usually just by herself with all of us walking by between classes. She was a year ahead of me, we used to say she was kind of wierd, but i think she kind of scared us, as we were normally half or fully baked out of our skulls and she was obviously commited. The results speak for themselves, she is greatness, my friends and I are not.

She is very blessed with both talent and beauty. Together they propelled her and her sister too absolute stardom. Even by today's standards, Hearts music is tops in my opinion insurmountable. Oh there are good bands and then there are great bands and there is Heart. Ann and Nancy Wilson must be recognized not only for their collective musical talent, but also for their collective genius in the music entertainment industry.
Many bands have come and gone, but always these amazing sisters just keep going. I'll always remember the very first time I heard Crazy On You. It just has this amazing sound to it and Ann.....what a voice coupled with Nancy's amazing guitar playing. Again, nothing has ever even come close and both are totally underrated as musical entertainers. 💖

I love her voice. Notice the total lack of Fry Tones. You can tell she came up in the 50s and 60s when women still sounded like women and not frogs on helium.

My "guitarist" comment was just factual, not judgemental. I was thinking of my lead guitar friend from the early 90s when I typed it. No offense was meant to this fine lady nor anyone else who identifies as a "guitarist". My thoughts were happy, loving, and trying to be helpful. Any other interpretation was unintended by me.

Unfortunately, I no longer play my guitar. I had to give it up because my fingers weren’t suited for it, so I turned to the piano and am doing quite well. I can only hope one day Rick Davies from Supertramp can show me how to play some of his songs. I would be in absolute heaven for a tutorial from him like the one you have given here. Your fans are so lucky to have you. This tutorial keeps your music alive for generations.
