      LOL Rock music isn't about technical perfection - it's about feel, soul and originality first of all, and Robert had a ton of all three, and also an insane range that no one could touch in the late 60's/early 70's before he suffered vocal cord damage. He also basically pioneered an entirely new rock vocal style - no rock singer sang in that type of high range with that much sexuality prior to Robert Plant. And since Robert was a huge influence and inspiration to Ann, I'm sure that she would wholeheartedly agree with your utterly asinine and disrespectful comment.

Heart disappeared for several years after that then to salvage their careers they became Corporate Shills, and brought in corporate writers to write the drivel of the 80's as they became a sad image of whom they were with far less talented backing.
      Too bad, Ann always had the pipes. Last decade they have been fighting with each other on and off, doing their own gigs at small venues.

    • @Don-Jack
      @Don-Jack ปีที่แล้ว

      @user-el2nh5uo1w No, they never said that. Just fanboys stirring up shit. You can just look up Nancy praising Roger Fisher's style in an interview with Premier Guitar:
      "Roger is a really great, original guitar player. He was not a trained kind of a player, which is really one of the great things about him. He broke a lot of the molds that many players were stuck in and was a wild and wooly style of guitar player. I learned quite a bit from him about how to attack the electric, because I had always been an acoustic player. I wasn’t only an acoustic player, but I started playing the electric seriously with Heart. So he showed me a few ropes that really helped me along the way."
      And Ann praising Steve Fossen (bass) and Michael Derosier (drums) in a Professor of Rock video. Even with all the personal drama between them, Derosier has stated the sisters always trusted them to come up with their parts, not telling them how it should be. Not to mention Howard Leese of course who stayed with them for 23 years. Personal drama was what "broke" the band apart. And it's always good to remember every member of the band except one voted Roger out.

    • @junkandcrapamen
      @junkandcrapamen ปีที่แล้ว +12

      What do you have against musicians hearing themselves? I guarantee the Wilson sisters used/use in ears when available.
      In ear monitors also make the sound better for the audience and easier to mix. The sound engineer doesn't need to worry about feedback onstage allowing for more volume, clarity and creativity.

    • @jacquesstrapp3219
      @jacquesstrapp3219 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@junkandcrapamen It's pretty clear that you know something about sound engineering and that wattsun has never done live sound engineering or sung on stage. Anyone who ever has, knows that ALL singers want to hear themselves as clearly as possible. This has been done with monitors for a long time. Most people paid little attention to monitors until artists starting using headsets and in ear monitors. Now that the masses notice them, they imagine monitors did not exist prior to in-ears or that they were poor and only singers with "pure unadulterated talent" could sing in key.

    • @jacquesstrapp3219
      @jacquesstrapp3219 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @tessmage_tessera Side fill monitors have been in use since 1961. Specialized angled cabinets and separate monitor mixers have been in use since 1970s. Effects processing has been done since the 40s. You should look this stuff up before making uninformed assumptions.

    • @jacquesstrapp3219
      @jacquesstrapp3219 ปีที่แล้ว

      @tessmage_tessera Maybe if you had been playing and recording as long as I have, (1974) your perspective on tech would be different. From my perspective, older hardware and methods can often be superior. For example, most in-ear monitors aren't as good as studio quality headphones. In-ear monitors are great for their versatility, compactness and aesthetics but they don't make you a better singer. Auto-tune and similar gimmicks are also over-hyped. In the past, vocalists recorded multiple tracks and comped the best into one take. Now they might adjust pitch digitally for minor corrections. It's just a way to save time. No studio technique is going to make a vocalist a better live performer.
      I am currently converting my studio to Pro Tools. To me, this system seems a hell of a lot more useful to engineers and producers than musicians. Maybe as I progress in proficiency, my attitude will change but right now I'm not overly impressed with any plugins or features that would give artists any significant advantages other than convenience and saving time over previous methods.

    • @jacquesstrapp3219
      @jacquesstrapp3219 ปีที่แล้ว

      @tessmage_tessera If you have an excessively loud stage sound or like to move around a lot, I can see the advantage of in-ears. IMO if you can't hear conventional monitors, somebody is usually way too loud on stage. A wall of Marshalls looks cool, but it's overkill most of the time.

    One of the things I love about this performance is that the band members have been playing together long enough to really work well together. They have been performing this song long enough to knock off the rough edges. They haven’t been playing it for so long that they are bored and just going through the motions. A lot of reaction videos use performances from later in a band’s or solo artist’s careers when the performers have passed their primes. Everybody is at their peak here and it shows.

    First and foremost, thank you for giving Nancy her due. I know that as the Charismatic Voice, we’re here for the reaction to the vocalists, but the acoustic guitar work in this song helps accentuate the power of Ann’s vocals. I’m always reminded of one article I read about Heart many years ago. Nancy’s nickname growing up was Whiz-Fingers and no song showcases how on the nose this nickname was better than this one one, and this version in particular. The intro is not part of the studio version, it’s a melodic and graceful treat that she crafted to, as you said, transition into the meat of this song. When it gets a little blues riffs start kicking in, that’s the start of the canonical song intro. And long-time fans pick up on the traditional sections of the song. That said, Ann’s vocals are amazing when she comes in. What an amazing, powerful voice.

      I love her, but not the best. I’ve got a whole slew of singers with better chops in my head, but when it comes to rock she’s in the top five ever women of rock. I rank her second to Pat Benatar and possibly Amy Lee. When Tina Turner does a rock song then I can heap her on top too. Ann does a lot of yelling in hard songs and you’ll find her inconsistent depending on when you hear her. I’ve seen her live several times over the decades and she is really good, but records better. Dog and Butterfly is one of my favorite songs ever, so I’m a big fan, just being objective.

I'd put Annie Lennox, Linda Ronstadt, Gladys Knight, Siouxsie Sioux (of Siouxsie and the Banshees), Florence Welch (Florence + the Machine), Shirley Manson (Garbage), Tina Turner, and Pat Benatar in the upper echelons. I have a few favorites in that list, but again that's just personal taste.

    So glad to see you experiencing Heart! A phenomenal music powerhouse! I had the extreme pleasure of working with this band during their earlier touring supporting their albums Dreamboat Annie, Magazine, Little Queen, Dog & Butterfly and Bebe Le Strange. Watching them live up close and seeing Ann's unbelievable vocal power was one of the greatest things I've ever experienced in my life. You were absolutely correct about those intro guitar pieces that Nancy plays in the opening. The first part being "Silver Wheels" which she always opened "Crazy On You" with, and that other part that you thought could be a whole other song actually is. That funky little break is a song off of Dog and Butterfly called "Hijinx". Good call! So glad that you have found this incredible band. As others have stated, I highly recommend listening to all of those early records. I was in my twenties and totally obsessed with this band and Ann back in those days. And Elizabeth does such a stellar job of making sure we appreciate the techniques, the delivery, the nuances, the micro-observations that combine and help us appreciate it ever so much more.
    And to think they didn't get into the R&R Hall of Fame until 2013. For them, the truism rings: A woman has to do twice the work of a man to get half the recognition. They've been a powerhouse on the scene since the '70s and held together with amazing talent, creativity, and longevity long after bands with more industry adulation have come and gone.

    I don't know WHY I am just getting a notification for a Heart reaction from you!!! Anyway, I was 16 y/old in 1976 & I fell in total love/obsession with Heart!! Ann is my rock idol!! I met them when I was 17 & from then on every time they came to my city I was invited to go backstage & once even to their hotel! I have lots of pics of me with them. Ann & Nancy are super soft spoken, polite, gracious & kind. I also made friends with Roger Fisher (guitarist) & kept following his career even when the orig. band split. He read some of my poetry & encouraged me to stick with writing & told me I had real talent! As a young lady obsessed with these artists, you can imagine how thrilling that was! I actually still stay in touch with Roger! He is still performing & recording under the name "The Roger Fisher Street team". Very nice guy! Anyway, I follow your channel because of Ptx, Voiceplay & Home Free, but when I saw Heart on the thumbnail I clicked lightning fast!!! Will be going thru ur playlists to see what other ones you have done! Then I will see what I can recommend that maybe you haven't seen yet.
