- Today we're embarking on a 3 part video journey about Sailor Moon. I am focusing on a 90's adaptation of Naoko Takeuchi's manga Sailor Moon to create a live action version of the characters' wardrobes. In this first part I am styling the 5 Sailor Senshi, Mamoru and Chibiusa's dark version - Black Lady.
All the images will be available in a pinterest board after the second styling video! The third video is a commentary so I'll update the link after the second vid.

Manga Usagi is really different from her anime counterpart tbh, especially towards the end of the show, she’s literally a bad ass during the star arc.
She becomes more badass in the anime too, she grows a lot and I do wanna give her credit for that, I think it’s just my efficiency loving self coming out whenever usagi was taking too long to transform or cry ahah
About the queen Serenity dress, Naoko Takeuchi ABSOLUTELY based it on that Dior dress, in fact she notably was a fan of fashion and would take inspirations from different fabulous runways of the 90s 💖

I mean usagis character i feel like is most realistic in a situation where you need to fight evil aliens especially in the first few episodes seeing as its all new to her and she’s literally 14 but
Oh yeah I agree that it’s realistic, I just think that the anime’s pacing is off, like she could be crying and such but it’s not that important to make her scream while she’s doing it you know, it also seems a bit unrealistic when it lasts too long when she’s not in battle but just crying about small things
Still love usagi though, it just seems like the anime went a bit too far with the time stretch of crying parts compared to how she seems to act in the manga

Yeah I think so too! I think people who were clowning on his style are a bit older than us so maybe that’s why they don’t like it... but I don’t think age should be a factor when it comes to fashion, if something looks good/fun then it does, right?

I believe that Mamoru's pants are grey not purple but omg I totally agree with you that the Tuxido mask outfit isn't that flattering, though I personally think its his mask, the tuxido is fine. The mask ruins the outfit because its colour doesn't go that well with the rest of the outfit and it doesn't fit to his face in a flattering way. Anyway congratulation for your new subscribers❤️

pretty much no other animated show will ever live up to Sailor Moon's fashion, both senshi and casual (also the character design is *chef's kiss*)

Aaaaah finally someone who made a good job with Sailor Moon fashion!! It seems like they always miss the point in the fashion of the show and what the characters would wear, I just don't understand why make a styling video if you basically don't know anything about the show besides 2 pinterest aesthetic screens. It's such a shame, I wish SM was seen as a gemstone of a show instead of just cute aesthetic and that people would give it a chance and watch the anime or read the manga.
You did an astonishing job with SM, I entirely agree with every single character, and as for Mamoru, I think he would also be wearing asymetric coloured sweaters like his weird tee-shirt. I also agree he's such an awful guy lol, I wish he was more kind with Usagi, they did him so dirty in the anime.
It would have been interesting if you had taken some fashion inspiration from the manga as well, I don't know if you read it but the fashion sense is great and changes quite a bit from the anime!
You are definitely right, this show has a lot to offer visually, it’s on another level of artistically well put together (not just the outfits but the entire world).
Mamoru gets better but still haha I’ll talk about it in the retrospect video.
I’ll look into the manga as well, I did however take Naoko’s sketches of characters in consideration as well🥰 rei is super different from manga as well, but I think it was done for the dynamic of the group in the show(also will talk about it in the vid)

I think you'll really enjoy it, Sailor Moon 90s is my favorite anime of all time but the langa just hits different, so many things are different as well as characters but I can't choose which version I prefer. Can't wait to see your other videos about SM as well as other shows or other subjects! 😊❤
And as for Mamoru, I just fell in love with Seiya way too much ahah... I can't unsee the fact that he would be a better bf for Usa even though Mamo and her are the ultimate couple ❤
@@usalisa3656 yeah I just recently checked out the first arc acts, the other senshis get a lot more interesting plot points but I still wish they got more ahahah bc I just love them sm but I like that Venus has a lot more sense in terms of her position in it

i think the main reason why usagi was such a crybaby was because she was so young, i mean she was like 14-16 right? around there i don't remember lol but she was not as experienced with fighting and all this like rei and also just her character was very emotional, its understandable since shes a kid but yeah i agree it was very annoying, to me it was like watching my little siblings 🤦🏻♀️
Yeah there’s definitely a reason for her behaviour and I don’t think it’s unrealistic as much as it’s strange that the others don’t get that much spotlight considering that they are so competent even though they are also the same age and fighting skill!

Girl, the part you talked about the dark version of the characters... so true?! Like, I don't know how this works, but there's something about seeing some good character in dark aesthetics... For me "dark versions" in girly shows is a MUST HAVE clihe, I mean: Dark Bloom (Winx), Black Lady... and there's the shadow ghouls of Monster High 13 wishes movie, if you haven't seen this before you should search for it, I'm sure you gonna like it!
yeah, I think it's always so iconic and it is great for creating content that is perfectly tailored for fan edits/art/etc, a smart strategy that is also fun!

There actually is a live action sailor moon show! It’s called pretty guardian sailor moon (pgsm) in the 2000s and the styling is sooo good especially with the transformations and the villains! It also has a really cool story that diverges from both the 90s sailor moon and the manga with a pretty cool twist villain! I definitely recommend if want more sailor moon content as well as a more y2k reimagining of sailor moon!
Say what you want about tuxedo mask's outfit but YOU CAN NEVER DENY the fact that it's literally one of the most iconic male anime character's outfits ever. The aesthetic sure isn't for everybody but it's very dapper and classy vintage male suit.

For the mens fashion you did for mamarou.. They where top fashion at the time. I can refer you to pictures of the show saved by the bell you'll see alot of simular fashions including the mens color blocked shirts n sweaters.

One of my characters is a total fashionista, but trying to find interesting men’s (or just more masculine) styles that also fit his personality is genuinely, extremely difficult.

So not sure if its been said, but the Moonlight Knight's outfit is most likely based on an early tokusatsu hero, Moonlight Mask, which debuted in 1958. Moonlight Knight's outfit is VERY similar to Moonlight Mask and I think its pretty safe to say it was both a homage and play on the fact that Moonlight Mask has moon and mask in the name. ^^

Sailor Moon actually does have a live action remake, but it was made somewhere in the 2000s so it didn’t have the best fashion choices
Yeah I saw pics from it, it’s super faithful to the original in terms of their sailor outfits but I would choose a different type of materials and such even for the sailor outfits

Well, I don't really agree with you saying that Usagi just cry in the middle of the battle and doesn't do anything cause after all SHE IS sailor moon, the strongest when it comes to power, and actually Usagi can be really strong and mature too. It's just that her first intention when something bad happens is to cry, but that doesn't make her weak. Of course thanks to her friends she gets even stronger and stronger but yeah, I just wanted to point out this.
Also I haven't think till now that I would like Rei's fashion that much!! And Makoto's too! Thanks for this video, obviously it took you time and effort
I still love usagi, don’t get me wrong hehe and the whole point is that she’s fighting with love instead of just fighting for the sake of fighting, I think it’s mostly the issue with the show’s pacing and how long they give some scenes vs others ahah

I usually search for them on pinterest or just google stuff. it's hard to find specifically what I'm looking for usually though, bc most images that come up first are not what I want, but those are the two search engines I use to find things!
