Yeah, I feel like I deserve the bit of salt I get for not running actual Scarecrows in my Reaper King deck, even if it's not really a Scarecrow deck. I totally support calling it a Charizard deck, but only if he runs only bad Red dragons, OG Charizard was a terrible pokemon in actual practice, it had few good matchups and endless bad ones, flying is a terrible typing in RBY, barely better than Bug (it's worth noting that the tiny number of bug attacks were actually pretty handy to have, I'd rather raise a Beedril than a Charizard at this point, even if Butterfree is probably a better Poke than either.
Try Reaper King Changelings, I swear it's objectively a lot better. Who wouldn't pay 1 generic on top of their changeling's cost to blow up *any* permanent? Also, there are various 'draw 10!' cards for The King, but Ur-Dragon can only draw 9 and is a bitch to cast, so all of those effects that care about MV are much worse in that deck. The biggest problem with Reaper King is that you attract a lot of attention, but it's not like Ur-Dragon is flying under anyone's radar.
I made my Ur-dragon deck mono-red. I can't even cast the commander, he's just there for that sweet discount. I think he's also the only card in the deck that costs more than like 10 dollars, so super budget-friendly.
Why not? Some budget red dragon can generate treasure token (Ganax, Gadrak). There are even some budget friendly card to get other color (Temple of the Dragon Queen, Orb of Dragonkind). Just cast that big beatstick for the lol, going "Surprise, motherf- ". Edit: Use Renari to make it a flash for more dramatic effect
Warriors win. Knights have a real commander that cares about them specifically and Soldiers have a lot of good individual cards plus a couple of good tribal cards, but Berserkers have almost nothing and Warriors have a ton of good synergy pieces, good individual cards, and a good combat commander with the best Warrior colors (Mardu Zurgo) with their type. I've played all four of these decks on Cockatrice because I love tribal decks, and Warriors won more times than the others easily. Knights were second, and my Soldier deck headed by the Odric that controls blocks was a lot of fun, but not very strong. Berserkers never won.
@@NeoSlimey yeah, sadly Berserkers wouldn't stand a chance really. there a plenty of cool Berserker cards, and a couple synergy pieces, but simply not enough to make a solid deck out of it. when I saw that there were Berserkers in Kaldheim, I hoped it would bring enough to make a commander deck, but it's just not there yet.
I've had an Atarka, World Render commander deck for 7-8 years now and it's still my favorite dragon commander. I was thinking of changing it to Miirym but I legitimately think it's better, especially with the reputation Miirym has

Loved this game. The huge swings were fun to watch. Even though the games were quick, no one was ever out of it. Would an Angels battle royale be similar?
I think in the future there could be Zombies: Black, Grixis, Esper, and Dimir and Spirits: Blue, Azorius, 5 Color and Abzan. Heck even dragons again but without 5c or Myrim
PSA, don't play Karthuss in dragon tribal. Too many people play Bribery/clones and possibly losing all your dragons for just some haste is kinda bad. Plenty of other haste enablers that can't backfire.
Also Seth yes it correct to wait till seven mana so you can have protection for since you can tutor up hexproof. Or you can wait till 10 mana and eliminate one person without a flying blocker.

Seeing all this Scion of the Ur Dragon gameplay almost makes me want a commander clash of “the old guard” with them, Rafiq, Nekusar, etc. Old commanders that used to be terrifying just in the command zone.
I don't think we were roasting Morophon the card a much as playing Morophon as your "Dragon tribal" commander (since shapeshifters feel a bit cheaty...).
I personally play Scion, I think it's one of the most powerful options out there. The discount of the Ur-Dragon is alright but the ability of Scion is both fun to use as well as quite strong which is why I prefer it. Plus it makes you wanna actually cast your commander so it doesn't just sit in the zone all day
Game 2 Tomer could’ve turned Scion into Utvara Hellkite, made 15 6/6s and in response to the trigger turn Scion into terror of the peaks to kill the table.. assuming he had those in his deck lol
@@OddModlin can’t you swing as utvara, get all the triggers on the stack, then swap scion to terror before they resolve? (I’ve never played scion but I’ve played a lot of Zirilan of the claw)

This was the most homogenous game I've ever seen. This wasn't a question of which Dragon deck was the strongest, just which Dragon commander was the most easily abused.
Tiamat is the one true dragon tribal commander. Though to be fair my list for Tiamat runs Morophon as well as Scion as part of the 5 dragons grabbed when you cast her.
Two things: Crim got what he deserved being mana screwed after playing Tithe. And Seth is the biggest hypocrite in Magic after playing the forbidden one.
Morophon is an absolutely insane commander, the moment you get any tutors involved. Grabbing Jodah and being able to cast all your dragons for free is insane, but it also enables you to run a bunch of colourless ramp to get into Morophon quicker, and it still enables you to cast your wild dragons?
That is a lot more fun in paper since you can rule 0 any walker as your commander while on MTGO you are stuck with the ones with the clause and IF they put them on there.
It's not strictly a tribe, but I'd love to see an "Equipment Tribal" week. There have been plentiful great options over the years, and the last couple years have seen it spread across a lot of color combinations. In addition, they've given us commanders like Chishiro that reward playing equipment but provide other options than voltron, so I think it could be a neat theme.
Seth your best play game 2 was to play Ojutai and attack crim to tap his board and ensure you get ancient gold dragon hits and hope for some luck lol. You could've only attacked for like 5 or so dragons too. Then you'd probably have blockers. Although it didn't matter because of Akromas Will lol.
Seth should have played Morophon for 4 G2 T6, since it's a _rogue_ , then Ur Dragon would have been 4. Also should have dumped Scourge of Valkas instead of a worthless Ancient Copper Dragon, as it could just take out Tomer on the spot. I also might not have swung out due to how open it leaves him - leave at least 5 or so back. *Edit* Though with Crim's Will, it ended up not really mattering much.
I mean it would have been easy to just not use the treasures from Smothering Tithe since its banned. You could entirely ignore it or if you feel bad about Crim missing a turn you could agree to let him spend 4 treasures. Other than that I don't see why you'd let him use the treasures.
If Seth had played Scourge of Valkas before swinging with Ancient Gold Dragon (Urza's Incubator would have let him), he could've killed everyone with the 14 tokens ETB (14x16) damage).
I would love to see a week where everybody plays a monocoloured tribe. See which tribe handles the monocoloured restriction the best! Elves vs Goblins vs Merfolk vs mono white Humans or something sounds fun. Maybe bring in Richard for Kithkin ;-)
What Seth did is the EXACT reason why the Ur Dragon is my commander. That cards absurd and allows me to not have to cast my commander, get value and it just ramps out dragons so easily. Four mana vs five mana is a huge difference. Also Seth you'd really appreciate mine as it's all about them ETBs! It's Dragon ETB Tribal and it's my pet deck.
1:31:32 Too bad Seth didn't have access to 2 more mana. He could've played his land, cast his Scourge of Valkas, then his Ojutai, Soul of Winter (thanks to the Ur Dragon discount). Then swing at Krim, tapping his board. Then the Gold Dragon poops out some dragons, taking out the table with Scourge of Valkas triggers. 😄 👌
For Seth, you can definitely run a low budget cEDH deck, but you probably can't build a solid one if you're under $100, you need way too much consistency to win. My paper cEDH deck wasn't quite as expensive as it looks, lots of the cards spiked later (a nice thing about building a deck full of 'the best cards at their jobs' is that lots of those cards go up over time). I think Yuriko is notoriously good on what is a dirt cheap budget in cEDH, but Polymorph decks can also be pretty cheap and consistent in mono-Blue, and there are some budget 1 mana counters even if you can't run the best ones. Yuriko rewards you for running cards that are normally very bad, and you can find both the clunky and evasive weenies on the cheap really easily. Most cEDH players are fine with proxies, I use a bunch for stuff like fetches in mine, as well as Mox Diamond and Chains of Mephistopheles (I hilariously just wrote the name on a piece of paper, so it's a great way to test my memory and annoy people). Who bans Smothering Tithe!? I'm shocked, it's so often a bad card when I play it that all the salt it generates amazes me. Scion is definitely the stronger of the two Ur-Dragons, even if Tomer really sat on a nut in the 2nd game. Scion is faster and has a really, really high floor if you build it to be pushed, it's a combo machine that can also just beat face via jank stuff like Dragon Tyrant (6/6 Doublestrike Flample Firebreathing is actually big enough to be relevant by mid game, while infect is easier to 1-shot, the option of just overwhelming someone if you have access to a bit of Red mana should also be scary). Scion just needs to draw lands and ramp, Ur-Dragon desperately needs to draw lands/ramp but also draw actual cards at the same time, making it a worse deck IMHO, or at least much, much less consistent, and if you played 20 games you'd like see more Scion wins than Ur-Dragon. Ur-Dragon's Eminence ability is 'strong', but shaving 1 mana in Commander is very much not the same thing as in 1v1 20 life formats, where the speed of a deck usually decides things, in Commander Ur-Dragon is big and slow, 9 mana is brutally difficult to cast unless you just draw a nuts amount of mana/ramp, and it's super-hard to hold up any kind of protection for Ur-Dragon due to it's 9 MV, Scion makes it a bit easier. Ur-Dragon's Eminence also attracts tons of negative attention, not sure that Scion has that same effect (unless people know what it can do).
The thing about the Ur-dragon is that you don't need to cast it. While nowadays getting color fixing is so much more consistent than it used to be, Scion requires 5 colors to cast to be useful. The Ur-dragon is just always there doing what it needs to. I'd agree that the Scion of the Ur-dragon is quite good, but I think you are severely underestimating the ability to play cards a turn sooner than anyone else, especially when the power of these new cards and unique creatures like hellkite courser exist. Not that I think the Ur-dragon is better or more consistent, but I just don't think we can say that Scion is clearly superior. I'm relatively confident that in a table where both are able to perform you'd see wins in both corners easily.
kinda surprised seth wasnt running terror of mount velus, getting it off an Ur-dragon trigger is maybe one of the most satisfying surprise blowouts in dragon tribal, well surprised maybe isnt the right word as it's not great otherwise
I would have liked to see a little more variance than just 3 wbbrg good stuff decks and miirym. Would have been nice to see some mono-red or gruul or even jund. Their are plenty of legendary dragons to work with.
As a guy who has a miirym deck - the son of a gun is just too damn busted. I've yet to not go off in a game... with like at least 15 games under his belt... whereas I've seen tiamat durdle and not do shit multiple times.

To me scion is the strongest since it is the easiest to combo with( my cedh deck is scion). But most value, I think is the ur dragon

Scion doesn't keep its ability when it changes. You can stack its triggers to dump things into the yard, but once it's changed, it locks in there.

I mean it would have been easy to just not use the treasures from Smothering Tithe since its banned. You could entirely ignore it or if you feel bad about Crim missing a turn you could agree to let him spend 4 treasures. Other than that I don't see why you'd let him use the treasures.
Honestly wasn’t that big of a deal and we all make mistakes. No reason to try and ruin a match for it

If Seth had played Scourge of Valkas before swinging with Ancient Gold Dragon (Urza's Incubator would have let him), he could've killed everyone with the 14 tokens ETB (14x16) damage).
I would love to see a week where everybody plays a monocoloured tribe. See which tribe handles the monocoloured restriction the best! Elves vs Goblins vs Merfolk vs mono white Humans or something sounds fun. Maybe bring in Richard for Kithkin ;-)

What Seth did is the EXACT reason why the Ur Dragon is my commander. That cards absurd and allows me to not have to cast my commander, get value and it just ramps out dragons so easily. Four mana vs five mana is a huge difference. Also Seth you'd really appreciate mine as it's all about them ETBs! It's Dragon ETB Tribal and it's my pet deck.
Just like the time Tom won with his nicol bolas deck by using the scarab, the scorpion and the locust god of his opponents.

Then swing at Krim, tapping his board. Then the Gold Dragon poops out some dragons, taking out the table with Scourge of Valkas triggers. 😄 👌

For Seth, you can definitely run a low budget cEDH deck, but you probably can't build a solid one if you're under $100, you need way too much consistency to win. My paper cEDH deck wasn't quite as expensive as it looks, lots of the cards spiked later (a nice thing about building a deck full of 'the best cards at their jobs' is that lots of those cards go up over time). I think Yuriko is notoriously good on what is a dirt cheap budget in cEDH, but Polymorph decks can also be pretty cheap and consistent in mono-Blue, and there are some budget 1 mana counters even if you can't run the best ones. Yuriko rewards you for running cards that are normally very bad, and you can find both the clunky and evasive weenies on the cheap really easily. Most cEDH players are fine with proxies, I use a bunch for stuff like fetches in mine, as well as Mox Diamond and Chains of Mephistopheles (I hilariously just wrote the name on a piece of paper, so it's a great way to test my memory and annoy people).
Who bans Smothering Tithe!? I'm shocked, it's so often a bad card when I play it that all the salt it generates amazes me.
Scion is definitely the stronger of the two Ur-Dragons, even if Tomer really sat on a nut in the 2nd game. Scion is faster and has a really, really high floor if you build it to be pushed, it's a combo machine that can also just beat face via jank stuff like Dragon Tyrant (6/6 Doublestrike Flample Firebreathing is actually big enough to be relevant by mid game, while infect is easier to 1-shot, the option of just overwhelming someone if you have access to a bit of Red mana should also be scary). Scion just needs to draw lands and ramp, Ur-Dragon desperately needs to draw lands/ramp but also draw actual cards at the same time, making it a worse deck IMHO, or at least much, much less consistent, and if you played 20 games you'd like see more Scion wins than Ur-Dragon. Ur-Dragon's Eminence ability is 'strong', but shaving 1 mana in Commander is very much not the same thing as in 1v1 20 life formats, where the speed of a deck usually decides things, in Commander Ur-Dragon is big and slow, 9 mana is brutally difficult to cast unless you just draw a nuts amount of mana/ramp, and it's super-hard to hold up any kind of protection for Ur-Dragon due to it's 9 MV, Scion makes it a bit easier. Ur-Dragon's Eminence also attracts tons of negative attention, not sure that Scion has that same effect (unless people know what it can do).
The thing about the Ur-dragon is that you don't need to cast it. While nowadays getting color fixing is so much more consistent than it used to be, Scion requires 5 colors to cast to be useful. The Ur-dragon is just always there doing what it needs to.
I'd agree that the Scion of the Ur-dragon is quite good, but I think you are severely underestimating the ability to play cards a turn sooner than anyone else, especially when the power of these new cards and unique creatures like hellkite courser exist.
Not that I think the Ur-dragon is better or more consistent, but I just don't think we can say that Scion is clearly superior. I'm relatively confident that in a table where both are able to perform you'd see wins in both corners easily.
kinda surprised seth wasnt running terror of mount velus, getting it off an Ur-dragon trigger is maybe one of the most satisfying surprise blowouts in dragon tribal, well surprised maybe isnt the right word as it's not great otherwise

I would have liked to see a little more variance than just 3 wbbrg good stuff decks and miirym. Would have been nice to see some mono-red or gruul or even jund. Their are plenty of legendary dragons to work with.

As a guy who has a miirym deck - the son of a gun is just too damn busted. I've yet to not go off in a game... with like at least 15 games under his belt... whereas I've seen tiamat durdle and not do shit multiple times.
