November 14, 2014 - Owning a gun is a serious business. Treating it with utmost respect does not only keep you and everyone around you safe, but it allows you to enjoy the hobby of practical shooting to its highest extent.

Rules should be as follows:
1) Always treat every gun as if it is loaded (even when you know it isn't)!
a] Always keep firearms pointed in a safe direction*/never pointing a firearm at anything/anyone you are not willing to kill/destroy.
b] Always keep your finger off the trigger until target is acquired and you are ready to shoot (even when dry firing).
c] Always know your target and what is behind it.
2) If you are going to play with or dry fire your gun be sure it is unload first (and visually inspect to be sure), and keep in mind that all of the above rules still apply 100% of the time!
3) All guns, not in use or on standby** (e.g. - defense weapons at the ready), should be kept unloaded, keeping in mind Rule 1) a-c] still applies 100% of the time, no matter what!
Footnotes:
*1) a] - at gun ranges the only safe direction is down range.
**3) It is very important that all firearms at gun ranges on stand-by should still be kept unloaded and pointed down range.
