Perfect thank you! I was going to ask, but can't we do something with or add to the icing that comes in the kit if we don't have any ingredients to make our own icing. Thanks for this ❤
I had a question and you answered it lol... I was curious if the colored liquid paste was the same icing she made initially and just colored it. Thanks!
Another tip if making one from scratch. For the last min or last few seconds add crushed up starlight mints to the window openings. They will melt and when the gingerbread walls cool down they will harden and make a stained glass affect. Just make sure on your baking sheet you have a heat resistant silicone baking mat so the candy part doesn't stick to the baking sheet. Learned this tip/trick in my baking class in college working in my culinary class. When I had to make a huge intricate gingerbread house for my final exam.
PUT HIM BACK TOGETHER HE DIDN'T HAVE TO DIE LIKE THIS!!! On a more serious note, this is so beautiful and I never would've thought of this. My ma has been getting more and more into cooking because she watches cooking shows and she loves when I send her these kinds of shorts!
My family uses white chocolate baking chocolate as the glue for holding pieces together. We've transported many constructions to and from contests with not one causality!
The icing that comes with the kits requires you to knead it or warm it in water first. If you don't follow the directions, you're going to have a bad time.
For the pre-made icing, if you can’t make your own, or just generally want to use it so you don’t have to make more, then I recommend kneading the bag with your hands until it becomes softer, or putting it near a heater to make it become warmer and softer more quickly.
We have group Gingerbread contests every year and I've NEVER thought of each of us getting one side of the house and decorating it omg that sounds so much easier!!! Cabt wait for this year!!
Wow! I saw this after finishing two different days of gingerbread house making-first with my two grandkids (5 and 8) and today with my two special needs bonus kids. I super glue our gingerbread houses together. Let them set for a few hours and then everyone makes their own design. lol. Yours is far more exquisite than ours! Funny side story--after hot gluing four gingerbread houses, I went to move them so my sneaky little mini-Aussie couldn’t get at them. But, I could only find 3 houses!! After looking high and low, I found , my dog had drug one off into a chair. That little stinker. Thank God it didn’t hit the floor and shatter!!
I have no experience with making or using royal icing but the last gingerbread house I made was rock hard and really pretty... when I tell you that thing could've survived a hurricane and we had to demolish it with a surge hammer... this is gorgeous though I'm having fun just watching your work ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The whole point for buying the gingerbread house is not to start prepping a separate icing mix. Instead keep a glass of hot water beside you and put the bagged icing they provide in the hot water. This will soften the icing and make it more malleable to apply on your gingerbread house
Thank you as always for the decorating tips, they're very helpful. At the end of this video, it shows a gray plaid roof. I would love to know how you created it. Do you have a video showing how you did this?
Yo hago galletas, por lo que veo creo e imagino que al poner el color gris aún fresca el royal icing hace líneas delgadas, como muestra al inicio en el color azul claro

The ideal consistency she shows is obviously different from the runnier, thinner consistency used elsewhere in the video. The thicker stuff is great for gluing the pieces of the house together. But decorating the flat pieces is another thing entirely. And that plaid thing? I have no idea how she did that
I am so glad I stumbled into this video. I felt like such a failure when my granddaughter and I were building a kit house (Barbie van). It kept falling apart. It was a Barbie van instead of a house. I would get three pieces standing and wouldn't you know it, they would fall. I will use your advice next year.

@@recoveringsoul755 gingerbread houses? In a pinch for a school event for frosting gingerbread cookies, yes, I have done this with a can of store-bought white frosting. This is not a fun tip but I wish I’d realized it sooner. If you KNOW with absolutely certainty that no one will break apart the house to eat the walls… you can use hot glue inside the main structure. So much faster, so much sturdier.
Most important tip: Do NOT use the icing that comes with a kit!!! From experience (not a professional, only a mom out to please her kids), the icing that comes in that handy little packet that creator showed......yeah, that doesn't work!! AT ALL!! Make your own!! It will save you sooo much time and more importantly frustration!! A ginger bread house should be fun, not frustrating!!!❤
decorating with candy is a personal preference and if it’s going on the sides of the house I would add it before assembling but if it’s going on the roof line add it at the end ☺️
Isn't there a recipe for icing using melted marshmallows and icing sugar, or am I getting mixed up with fondant style icing? I know I've run across an easier recipe than royal icing somewhere, and it works well...
It's really simple to fix the icing in the box. Just add a little bit of water and it works just as good.
Yes ! Or a little bit of lemon juice
Or put it in a bowl of hot water. Pretty sure the instructions tell us to do that
Perfect thank you! I was going to ask, but can't we do something with or add to the icing that comes in the kit if we don't have any ingredients to make our own icing. Thanks for this ❤

Fully AGREE!
To add to the first tip, making additional icing is good. If you want a snowcaked rooftop of different colors of icing, having extra is good.
I had a question and you answered it lol... I was curious if the colored liquid paste was the same icing she made initially and just colored it. Thanks!
LOVE the idea of each person decorating a piece of the house, and then putting it together!! Brilliant!! 🎅🎄🎅🎄🎅🎄
Omg that one on the end is so gorgeous 😍
I never thought of decorating the sides before putting them together!! Mind blown! ❤

You can make vegan aquafaba Royal icing and works just the same, for those who have allergies.
The icing that comes with the kits requires you to knead it or warm it in water first. If you don't follow the directions, you're going to have a bad time.
I love that simple tip, decorate the sides, before you build it. I decorate with my children and they are so excited to build. Thank you 🤔👍🏽👏🏽
In Sweden it's common to use melted sugar as glue. One just has to be careful since it burns if you get it on your skin. And don't burn it😉
My houses are going to be so much better this year. Thanks for the basic tips that will make a huge difference!

No, that frosting doesn't dry hard. It'll fall apart
You need Royal icing made with meringue, egg whites

when my friend group and i tried building a gingerbread house from a kit it looked like 5 different natural disasters swept through it 💀
That’s hysterical accurate lol.
😬
I’ve found a great sub for royal icing is hot glue.
What about using candy melts to assemble the house?
I’ve never tried! ☺️
This house is gorgeous!!!! I would buy this house, but ive tangled with royal icing and ill buy one instead of trying to do it
What else can be used instead of meringue powder/egg whites?
The liquid from a can of chickpeas works really well for making egg-free royal icing. My friend Haniela’s has a recipe on her blog: www.hanielas.com/vegan-eggless-royal-icing/

This is not a fun tip but I wish I’d realized it sooner. If you KNOW with absolutely certainty that no one will break apart the house to eat the walls… you can use hot glue inside the main structure. So much faster, so much sturdier.
How did you make the wood grain for one of the houses?
Royal icing and a scribe tool ☺️

Do you recommend adding decorative candy (and if so, when do you add it to get it to adhere best), or decorating it ALL with icing?
decorating with candy is a personal preference and if it’s going on the sides of the house I would add it before assembling but if it’s going on the roof line add it at the end ☺️
Can you use store bought icing like pillsbury
No it has to be royal icing ☺️
In my country we don't do this so I'm very curious. Do yall eat it eventually or just toss it? Is it really just for decoration??
People do eat them! Mostly they are just for decoration though☺️
Can you eat them after their constructed?
Yes! ☺️
Love these videos, very creative. Do you ever make like a chocolate house? Where the wafer part is chocolate wafer etc...?
I haven’t but maybe I’ll try that soon! ☺️
Isn't there a recipe for icing using melted marshmallows and icing sugar, or am I getting mixed up with fondant style icing? I know I've run across an easier recipe than royal icing somewhere, and it works well...
Sounds like fondant ☺️
I love this channel and I’m not trying to be rude but personally I wouldn’t make icing from scratch for something that goes hard and stale overnight
I wouldn’t even build the gingerbread house. I’ll just eat it straight out the box.
What ratio or recipe would you recommend for the icing?
Are you slightly thinned stiff consistency, royal icing. The recipe is in the Cookie Art Club or my book ☺️
Http://sweetambs.mn.co
Is there an icing recipe that doesn't use raw eggs?
I'm wary of using raw materials that originated from animals if I'm not cooking them first.
Yes there are! ☺️
