    Thank you for showing how the icing was stackable without getting damaged. I was specifically worried about this. 😊

    Just finished cookies for my daughter’s class tomorrow. You weren’t wrong this is a fool proof recipe. It turned out perfect the first try and that never happens for me. The alligator cookies I made look great, this will be my go to recipe forever!

    Thank you, I don’t have a steady hand for decorating, so I appreciate not having to outline and then flood the cookie. Much less complicated!

    For anyone who likes the thicker dyes (mine is a paste) you can stop the icing a little thicker and use a bit of the milk to mix into the dye to turn it more liquid which will make it much easier to mix in😊

    I have to tell you that this is the bomb! The icing was easy and flavorful (I used Almond flavoring). It took a while to get the consistency just right, but after was nice to use and easy to decorate. Plus I tend to shy away from the raw egg whites in the Royal icing. Thanks for you recipe. Keep up the great work.

    Hello Sam.
    - So, if I want to do lots of decorations on my cookies of different colors, I can still do it with this icing BUT, I will have to wait till each color sets? Is that right?
    For example, a Xmas tree ( Green ) with garland ( White ) over the Green & Xmax ornaments in 2 - 3 other colors.
    Thank you.

    EDIT: 12-10, I made some Gingerbread cookies following your recipe also & made that icing. It harden/dried pretty quickly, so it was easy to put all the colors in the end. I wish I could share a pic of them. they look pretty good for a first-timer.

    Good tips, but I'd like to try this with extra creamy oat milk instead of milk, and I would use almond extract instead of vanilla. I use the almond extract in my whipped cream frosting that I frost my chocolate angel food cake, and it just really adds something special to an already quite special cake. (Some years ago, big-name cake mix makers had a chocolate angel food mix, but it the cake it made wasn't nearly as good as that which one makes on their own using a 2-stop angel food mix...which is getting harder to find these days, too...the major brands don't seem to make a 2-step mix anymore.)

    Did this last night, and it went great! Definitely go slowly when decorating if you are used to using royal icing on cookies. But so much easier than royal icing!
    Question: could lemon juice or other flavorful liquid be used in place of milk? Trying to cut the sweetness a little.

    • @SugarSpunRun
      @SugarSpunRun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed it! You can use lemon juice instead. It will impart a bit of the lemon flavor though so just be aware of that. :)

    • @betsybookie
      @betsybookie ปีที่แล้ว

      I did try it with fresh squeezed lemon juice AND added some lemon zest. It turned out delicious! The tart with the sweet icing and the sweet cookie was really special. Then I tried the same thing with lime, and then cranberry juice (no zest there, just 100% cranberry juice from Ocean Spray). These are all tart flavors so they came out great. I made lime-flavored Christmas trees (added some green), lemon-flavored snow men, and cranberry-flavored bells (added some red)!

    • @SugarSpunRun

      They don't need to be refrigerated. The sugar stabilizes the milk here. They are good for about a week in an air tight container at room temperature. :)

    Looks easy and tasty. Question, can the icing be frozen (on the cookie)? I would like to make some now, keep some out for hubby & myself, and freeze balance to be given for Xmas. Just make the icing once.

      You can freeze the icing on the cookie. Enjoy! :)

    Planing on using this icing for cookie decoration party for kids. Do you think it will be okay to use small squishy bottles instead of plastic bags? Also, is it possible to make icing ahead of time?

      Small squishy bottles will work just fine. If you make it in advance you will need to place plastic wrap directly against the surface so it doesn't dry out. :)

    This looks easy and tasty. Just wondering, you said you left them out on the counter over night. Won't the milk in the icing spoil?

      @SugarSpunRun  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, it’s a small amount of milk and a large amount of sugar preservative. Please do what you are most comfortable with in your own kitchen though, always! 🩵

    Have you ever used this recipe to make an icing transfer for a cake? Just wondering how the syrup would be affected when putting the transfer into the freezer to harden before putting it on the cake. Thanks!

      Unfortunately I haven't tried it so I can't really say for sure how it would go. I don't think the corn syrup will give you any issues but I really don't know if it would hold up when put on the cake. It could potentially work but without having tried it I'm just really hesitant to advise. :(

    I have a question! is the corn syrup really needed? am I able to replace it with lemon drops since I''ve seen people use lemon drops in sugar cookie icing. I am a bit confused with it, will it spoil the milk?
    anddd alsoo does it effect on the drying process or on the glowing effect/shine

    • @SugarSpunRun
      @SugarSpunRun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can leave the corn syrup out, but the icing won't dry quite as firmly and won't be shiny. You may need to add more milk. I'm not sure how the lemon would work.

    Can I write words on the cookie with this icing as well or do you recommend doing something different? If so, what would you recommend for the writing part?

    I want to put the cookies in small plastic bags for cute packaging. Will the frosting be ruined from the friction of plastic bag ?

    • @SugarSpunRun
      @SugarSpunRun  ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure the frosting hardens completely (overnight is ideal just to be super sure) then it will be fine in a bag :)

    HIGH fructose corn syrup, most commonly HFCS 42 and HFCS 55, is a commercial food additive which is higher in Man-Made fructose formed by artificially using enzymes to covert the glucose derived from corn starch into fructose, but it doesn't actually bind to the remaining glucose chains and HFCS also contains water as a byproduct.
    HFCS is not the same identical thing as naturally occurring fruit fructose (i.e. fruit pectin) -- and if anything it is more closely related to and more like sucrose EXCEPT minus the chemical bonding between glucose and fructose.
    "HFCS 42 is mainly used in processed foods, cereals, baked goods, and some beverages. HFCS 55 is used primarily in soft drinks." (FDA)
    Also, it is NOT the same thing as corn syrup/Karo (or 100 percent pure glucose).
    That said, corn syrup is made with commercially grown corn with all the GMOs and pesticides -- and may even contain HFCS as an additive especially if the manufacturer wants to cheap out -- simply read the labels to find out -- but many if not most manufacturer's have actually stopped adding HFCS to their regular corn syrup due to overwhelming consumer demand.
    "Honey is a common nutritive sweetener with an approximately one-to-one ratio of fructose to glucose. Fruit and nectar-based sweeteners may have more fructose than glucose, especially those that come from apples and pears." (FDA)
