Just an FYI, That performance was after Paul Grey's death. He dedicated that performance of Snuff to Paul.
The song is all about paul!! the entire song was wrote for Pauls drug abuse....Rest in Peace Paul!! We still love you brother!!

James Stephen he said the performance was for Paul.... The song was not about Paul.... The only thing it originally had to do with Paul is that it only made the album because Paul loved the song
James Stephen the song isn't about Paul, Paul helped Corey write the song, the song is about a friend (not an ex wife as many seem to say) who helped him with his alcoholism, Corey caught feelings for her but she didn't feel the same way.
The song has since been dedicated to Paul, because of his influence on the song when writing it.
it was Paul's favorite song of slipknot, that's why Corey gets emotional about it...

@Cyberdemon Mike i dunno, i've loved slipknot since the Iowa days, and still think their first album is a masterpiece. love their softer side aswell.
This is one of Slipknot's best songs IMO, and this performance is just incredibly good. Listening to this and then something like Solway Firth or Metabolic really shows how huge his vocal range is.
Nero Forte explores his vocal range the most, we haven't heard it live yet though.

This song was actually about a woman who helped him a lot. He told her that he loved her, but she didn't feel the same way. That's how this song came to be :)

It was originally about his ex wife and Paul was the biggest pusher to get it on the album because he knew how much it took and meant to Corey to write it.

Everytime I listen to Snuff I break down in Tears!! I met Paul once in Halifax Nova Scotia....after a concert...Paul was one of the nicest men I have ever met...he loved his fans!! he shook my hand and didn't let go until We felt our meeting was long enough...Rest in Peace Paul!!

Great reaction guys! Just wanted to say that I was lucky enough to meet Corey a good few years back. Like you say, despite the Slipknot aesthetic, he is genuinely one of *THE* most down-to-Earth people I've ever met in my life. He's had my utmost respect since that day 😁

This song hits all the right spots.
You and Amy should do some Stone Sour reactions, for sure! Stone Sour is so different from Slipknot, but in it's own way, just as good. There's the obvious choices, Through Glass and Bother, but Gone Sovereign/Absolute Zero, Inhale, Dying, Mercy, Taciturn, Song #3, Fabulous, Get Inside, Zzyzx rd., and Tired are also all really good songs.

Corey can be a bit intimidating but when you do get to know his story and such, you can sympathize with him for sure. He’s definitely been through quite some shit but he’s made it big and has succeeded in his dreams way more than he envisioned.

someone very special to him who helped him survive a really dark episode of his life. He ended up falling for her and thought she had similar feelings for him. However, at the end of the day she disappointed him in a really heartbreaking fashion. He said he finally realized it was good it happened, cause he found the person he is now.
It hits him so hard because even though it written about something else, he ties it to the turmoil in his the final years of his late friend and Slipknot bassist, Paul Gray’s life.
Found your channel through the Slipknot vids and new subscriber here done... seen Slipknot about 3-4 times now including 2009 download gig and they still do it every time live. Other bands try a bit of Killswich Engage, The Deftones and Trivium! Keep up the great work! Live music going to gigs cant beat it!

As others have mentioned, the song was dedicated to Paul Gray, Slipknot's former bassist who unexpectedly passed away. The reason why it is such a hard song is because it was one of Paul's favourite song so makes him think of him

This show was a few years after the death of Paul Grey. He broke down crying playing this song for a several years. This was one of the first times he preformed this song with out breaked down.
This song is one of the deepest,softest and coolest one of slipknot....
This song was originally wrote about someone who had helped Cory through a very hard time in his life and he ended basically falling in love with her but the feelings were not returned. Since the death of Slipknot's bassist Paul Grey(R.I.P.), Cory dedicates every time he sings this song to Paul. The line you were talking about, "Angels lie to keep control", the reason he looks up is cuz he is, in his mind, looking at Paul when he sings that part. You can just feel the emotion and love he had for Paul every time he sings this, I get goosebumps every time I hear it.

I totally get what he was saying about Slipknot seeming kind of like they are playing scary characters and industrialized and unreal and I think that's why I didnt like them as much growing up but I always loved Corey Taylor cause I've always been a big fan of Stone Sour but when Snuff came out I instantly fell in love with how emotional and raw the feelings of it are and it has been one of my most favorite songs ever

This is, afaik, the last song he wrote together with the late Paul Gray, so it's double the feels for Corey when he performs it. He often dedicates it to him when doing live shows.
It's so fucked up how this song was in no way written about Paul, but there's countless lines that relate to Paul! I'm not going to list all of them, but here's some... Actually, no. i started quoting some lines and then realised that I could quote pretty much the entire song!
This is such an emotional song for me. Because of Paul and Joey. Slipknot and Joey were a *huge* influence on my life. I met my GF who i've been with for 17 years through Slipknot and Joey and my 2nd daughter's middle name is Jo after Joey. Paul and Joey were the backbone of Slipknot and i miss them so much! I still can't believe that Paul's gone and i will never see him again!

Originally the song was written about Cory's first wife. He said that the shit he put her through and vice versa was the feeling he felt of all the pain and anger that she put up with then flip it the guilt trips she put him through all in all it was just the destruction of there marriage. Then with Paul's death the lyrics of "wish I wasn't your friend" hit Cory the hardest and he felt betrayed that Paul died way to soon just an amazing performance and song Cory can do not wrong in my eye's with his songs
It's hard for me to listen to this song. I feel Corey's pain so much. To love someone but they hurt you so much so you turn to drugs and alcohol to numb to pain. Music has helped me so much throughout the years. Specifically corey and I'm sure he has saved and helped a lot of lifes. I lost one of my best friends too which is the worst thing in the world. He is gonna die from drugs I know it. It really hurts to know that your gonna lose your friend to drugs.
It's funny you talk about crying in parralel of Splknot and Tool's reaction, because the song that made me cry is 10 000 Days. ( A moving tribute to Maynard's mom who was paralyzed almost 27 yrs and steel believe in god all this time ). Check out with her , you will not regret.

Songs are whatever you think they are, so let's not relegate a particular song to a particular moment. Even the happiest song in the world can be the saddest to someone, and vice versa
