    John Farnham also has a great version of When the War is Over (live). It was written by Chisel's drummer Steve Prestwich who sadly passed about 12 years ago from brain cancer.

    • @kathyconway5327
      @kathyconway5327 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I appreciate that Farnham is a superb singer, maybe the best singer and that he totally appreciated this song … but as he performed best when live he really needed music fans rather than Farnsey fans. He told them he wanted to slow it down a bit bit but they all went nuts like they do and the gravity of the song was lost. The gift of Chisels song is that they were able to express the lament with one voice and the anger with another. And that makes it a great song.

    Welcome to Jimmy's world. Wild Thing was from their last concert before they broke up in '83, When the War is Over was performed when they reunited after '97. Jimmy Barnes is the lead singer, the ultimate Wild Thing before he gave up the booze and what not. Ian Moss on the guitar and vocals was always silky smooth. Many, many hits from the band and solo careers of both, Jimmy is still performing to this day, he has gone soul, blues and as ever is brilliant still.

    Jimmy Barnes is the guy you mentioned with the crazy range. F2-B5, basically four octaves and he belts them with vibrato and soul like few on this earth are capable of!! He puts 200% into every performance and what I love most about Jimmy and Cold Chisel is they sung to the people, for the people. Their songs are about the Aussie battler, the working class, the veteran.. relatable content with very clever lyrics and twists on the traditional songwriting verse/chorus form. Don Walker on keyboards is the bands genius, but they can all sing and write songs.

However, what i like about Jimmy as a human being, is that it doesn't matter where he is performing (and he used to to road trips into he remote areas), he would put his all into it, whether he was performing for a few hundred or a few thousand. i went to a concert with him at a little town in the Pilbara in 1989 (i think? maybe early 1990). really laid back - take your picnic chairs and your eskie with grog and just watch them perform. he definitely moves into the crowd.

      You could see in the video to Simply the Best, Tina smile as she started to realise how good a singer she was singing with. I guess she probably didn't get to sing with someone on the same level as her that often. Jimmy and Tina = the male and female equivalents of each other's voices.

    Many things to say… just one Jimmy used to drink a bottle of vodka thru a show - no doubt “Wild thing” was one of those occasions.. that aside possibly/arguably Australias greatest “Rock-Roll” band

    Probably Aussie's best ever pub rock band. Jimmy, if you're reading this, I haven't forgotten the $300 you owe me for the ounce of skunk I spotted you at the Barn Palais in Mount Gambier back in the 80's.

    Nice and honest reaction as always 🫠
    Do you know Entheos? They're so talented and Chaney's voice is overwhelming... Actually it's a tech-death band so she dosen't really sing (just a little bit) which maybe you don't prefer so much I think, but who knows 🙂
    Anyway I love them♥️ the whole new album is so listenable for everyone.
    Have a nice day!

    Here's his daughter in the trials on the voice, with Keith Urban cutting sick on the guitar, then Jimmy bounces out and closes the song, unfortunately Mahalia didn't win (she was 'robbed!") :D.. but its a great clip: th-cam.com/video/dLdLRpq9ZBI/w-d-xo.html
