You have a bit of knowledge about Cold Chisel! That second song was Written about some a big-time Los Angeles Producer who kept them waiting for over four hours while he attended a birthday party for his dog. That's true because I've heard it from Ian and Jimmy's interviews, that how the song came about.
So It's Ian Moss on guitar and vocals, and Barnsey usually on lead vocals, but some songs it's Mossy up front. one of the great things about Cold Chisel in a ddition to their musicianships was the depth of the lyrics. "Looking like a Choir girl, she's crying like a refugee" All of Flame trees.
I know this is a thing, but it still blows my mind that Cold Chisel is virtually unknown outside of Australia and NZ. Aussie rock fans regularly argue over who is better - AC/DC or Cold Chisel!!
Look at that crowd. They know all the songs and all the words. That’s real homage to the power of this band. One of Australia’s greatest exports. They are literally part of the Australian fabric.
Absolutely right. I went to a show on the Last Wave of Summer tour, and I recall Barnesy being drowned out by the audience on Khe Sanh, Four Walls and Flame Trees.
Bow River is by the lead singer/guitar of this track, Ian Moss, and said to be about a sheep station (ranch) his brother worked on in the outback. The second singer on Bow River Jimmy Barnes is the group’s main lead singer including on the second video, recorded about 20 years earlier (1982/3) when the two songs first came out. Barnes is probably now Australia’s most famous/revered rock singer. Maybe along with Peter Garrett of Midnight Oil, although he went into politics for a long time.
Jimmy and his daughter have been doing a lot of collaborations with Joe Bonamassa so there is definitely a lot of the blues in the Barnse's . If you want to listen to some real Soul music check out When something is wrong with my Baby . Jimmy and another Aussie great John Farnham and Johnny diesel.
Aren’t they fabulous. The musicianship of this group is right up there with the best in the world. All of the 5 main bands members, Jimmy Barnes (Barnsey), Ian Moss (Mossy), Phil Small on guitar, Don Walker on keys and Steve Prestwich (RIP) on drums have written for the band. They started in the 70’s and first disbanded in 1983. They have regrouped for several concerts after that.. so many great songs from them. Jimmy is my favourite artist of all time. He has had a 30 year solo career after Chisel. Ian has also had a solo career too. Check out Georgia on my mind from 1983 (he is wearing a red shirt). Ps Dave Blight on harmonica
I saw him just last year at the Legends on the Lawn concert in Queensland, with a ton of other greats - one of the best experiences of my life! I can't even imagine what it was like to see him with Cold Chisel, at the height of their prowess- or his early solo career...
also jimmy barnes was offered the van halen gig after david lee roth. but declined because he had 3 young kids at home and wanted them to be raised in australia with him there.
Hey thanks Cheezy, My fav Ozzie band of all time....50 years and still going :) Lead Singer is Jimmy Barnes and yeah his voice is brilliant , he can do soulful blues (He did a whole soul solo album at one stage) to great rock songs like the last one. Ian Moss is lead guitar and singer of Bow River (Bow as in Bow Tie) with Barnsey providing awesome back up vocals. Mossy also did some solo stuff that is quite good too Seen them live as it was a massive bucket list item for me and they didn't disappoint. Australian Royalty right there and RIP To the drummer Steve Prestwich who we sadly lost about a decade ago. Not quite your speed metal and stuff like that but just good honest rock that'll get ya moving at a show :)
You just reacted to Australian rock royalty, Cold Chisel are arguably Australia's leading pub rock band and if you liked them then you have to react to The Angels ,Divinyls, Rose Tattoo Mental As Anything , Midnight Oil, INXS, Daddy Cool, Australian Crawl ,and a whole lot more If you are impressed by the harmonica player's circular breathing technique check out our native Australians the Aborigines playing their indigenous musical instrument the Digeridoo they can keep blowing for very long periods of time .using the circular breathing skill
You’ve got Nothin I want! Was Chisel giving the finger to the American music execs after atouing the Sates! 😂And the rest as they say is history we got to keep our Beloved Chisel to ourselves.❤
You Got Nothing I Want was written after they tried to break out in the States. The music promoter said he couldn't come to their show (first show, if I remember correctly) because he had to go to a birthday party of another client's dog. After the show he came back stage and Barnsey asked him if he caught the show, and he said he had just arrived. I don't need stupid alibis! Barnsey looks like his just ambling and stumbling around, but it's an extremely well choreographed video.
When Chisel are on form they are the greatest blues rock band in the world. The guitarist/singer Ian Mossy (only ever referred to as 'Mossy' in Australia) also had his own successful solo career. His iconic song is 'Tucker's Daughter'.
Wouldn’t go as far as to say the greatest band…. One of the great bands of Australia is more apt…. And yes as good as it gets as many many pub bands of the 60’s 70’s n 80’s… ALL WERE….
Aussie here , grew up on Cold Chisel. Best Aussie rockers ever. Have a listen to merry-go-round. Or a couple of good albums are East and the barking spiders live.... great to hear some good Aussie rock.
Jimmy Barnes (who sings lead vocals in "You got nothing I want") is the lead vocals for Cold Chisel, however all except Phil on bass (very rarely) and Don Walker on keyboards (rarely) sing. Ian Moss (lead guitar) has an excellent voice, and drummer Steve Prestwich [recently passed away - RIP]) also sings very well. The harmonica player Dave Blight is a session muso who usually joins Cold Chisel when they tour (sometimes they tour with a saxophone session muso as well).
When I was a boy in high school, late '70s, they told me Ernest Hemingway was a genius because he "captured the spirit of an age." In about 1980, Cold Chisel hit big in Australia, and that's exactly what they did. They captured the spirit of an age. You want to know what it was like just becoming an adult in Oz in the early '80s ~ listen to Cold Chisel. Listen to Khe San ~ 4 walls ~ Breakfast at Sweethearts ~ Saturday Night ~ Cheap Wine ....
First concert I ever went to in 1981 had Cold Chisel as the support band. I'd never heard of them but man they were so good. Jimmy Barnes was chugging vodka like water and they blew the headline act away.
@@grahammcpherson8323 It was in Townsville, and it was actually July 1980 (getting old and memory's fading 😄). The Angels were the headliners and that's who I'd gone to see. Jimmy was all over the stage and climbing onto the speaker stacks. Doc Neeson came out and tried to top it, but Jimmy stole the show. It was the first time I'd even heard of Cold Chisel and I became an instant fan.
@@Hoocuspoocus thanks for sharing ... sounds like a great night. You can't be getting old... coz that would mean so am I 😄 I got into Chisel early. A mate's brother was mates with Ian Moss. Cheers
Ian Moss, the lead guitarist, sang the lead vocals on Bow River (and it is indeed pronounced bow like bow-tie or bow and arrow). The line "I feel the water licking at my feet again" is apparently ironic, since I've heard that the Bow River of the song is supposedly a dry creekbed.
You should check out Jimmy doing a duet with John Farnham. It is on his soul deep album. Always do both of them live. Also another Aussie group The Teskey Brothers doing Hold Me live. Thanks for the reaction.
In the 80's we would have a choice of bands to see in pubs every weekend. Fun story the lead singer Jimmy Barnes' brother is a singer too, I was so keen to see him I went along to the pub with my cousin who was security just to see the band and did my first pub security job unpaid aged 14 year old.
Ian Moss (lead guitarist) wrote Bow River. Its about his brother working on a NT cattle station. "You Got Nothin I want" is the response from the band to the treatment they received in the USA on their first tour. Listen to the lyrics, it pretty much sums it up. These blokes are superb live.
Bow River is in the Northern Territory which is the "The Top End" Ian refers to in the song, in Australia the Norhern Territory is known as the Top End... Cold Chisel & Jimmy Barnes (when he went solo) have the greatest pub tunes all throughout Australia... classic Aussie pub music... with many memories of some of the greatest times of my life...thank u Cold Chisel & Barnseys....

Its bow like a bow and arrow.. The Angels and Cold Chisel came about the same time and both from Adelaide. Check .INXS - Never Tear Us Apart (Live) Wembley Stadium 1991 and Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning
I grew up hearing Cold Chisel on the radio far too much, I was into my punk, grunge and heavier and weirder shit and frowned upon the classic Aussie rock like AC/DC and Cold Chisel. I gained a huge appreciation for Cold Chisel after seeing them live a few years back, I'd just finished a 12hr shift at the refinery and had an 1.5hr drive home, to be honest I was tired and just wanted to go to bed when my wife rang me on the way home and told me she had a spare ticket. I walked in tired and not really in the mood to be there and walked out really glad I went, thoroughly enjoyed it. Ian Moss is the glue of this band, he's fantastic
Cold chisel. 1 of the many great pub bands from 70-80s. Up there with inxs, acdc, midnight oil , angels rose tattoo and more more more. Those were the days of great oz music. What happened to raw talent?
Showing my age but I remember seeing Cold Chisel in the early 80s at Latrobe Uni venue in Bundoora, when they were still doing the rounds of the pubs and clubs. Their support band was INXS! I've lost count of the number of times I've seen them. So glad the world is finally discovering their brilliant music. Does that make Australia super-advanced or the rest of the world hopelessly behind???
Jimmy Barnes still touring now - I have been listening to him with Chisel and solo from 80's to now - Jimmy my favorite singer - what we call 'Pub Rock' - this song released apparently after US music execs not receptive - so luckily we in Australia have had them to ourselves and they are legends here.
Pick up a copy of their greatest hits. You will not be disappointed. Khe Sanh is probably their most famous song, telling of PTSD and the treatment of Aussie Vietnam Vets. Flame Trees, Standing On The Outside, When The War Is Over and Cheap Wine are also some of their more well known songs that everyone should have a listen to. And Remember... Bow River, as in Bow and Arrow or Bow Tie. Ian Moss is the Lead guitarist and sings the most in Bow River Jimmy Barnes, also known as 'Barnsy' has the raspy voice and sings You Got Nothing I Want.
Aussies favourite rock band. Locals preferred Cold Chisel even over ACDC or INXS Jimmy Barnes is the main lead vocalist but Ian Moss just as talented and takes the lead on a number of songs. Check out Jimmy Barnes and another Aussie Hard hitter John Farmham singing When Something is Wrong with my Baby

Cold Chisel, were lucky enough to have not one, but two super talented lead singers in Ian Moss (Mossy) and Jimmy Barnes (Barnsey). If you want to see some recent Jimmy Barnes, check out Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa doing Stone Cold. Jimmy’s the one with the raspy voice and a pretty wild past. He also does a fantastic duet with John Farnham, Something is wrong with my baby. The live Hey Hey it’s Saturday version of this is probably the best. These guys do mine blowing live performances that never disappoint. I love seeing you guys over there discovering and reacting to our great Aussie talent.☺️

Hi just found your channel 😁 FYI the singer at the start of the video is Ian Moss, his great albums include Matchbook. Check out the 80's Australian bands they are phenomenal and people young and old still crave for this style of music today!
Ian Moss on Fender Strat is nothing short of Rock n Roll guitar legendary - But then to have Ian Moss whose vocals are incredible play 2nd fiddle to the atomic explosion that is Jimmy Barnes voice is beyond rock n roll boundaries of good fortune … the two together crack open the world. Rock Royalty. I love their song “Forever Now” the best. They do a phenomenal song called Saturday Night. Their cover of CCR’s put a light in the window is unbelievable. Find a solo of Choir Girl sung by Ian Moss alone in concert - it’s incredible.
What a great rabbit hole to dive into! SO much amazing music from the iconic band that was out secret for so long! There's enough material to last months and months. Best pub band ever. World class
Ian Moss lead guitar and vocals on Bow river. Jimmy Barnes comes in later on Bow River and also sung lead in You Got Nothin' I Want. He's lost a lot of his range and is a lot of gravel now, but in his younger days, an exceptional rock singer. They did a great version of Knockin' on Heavens door on their live Swingshift album in the early 80s. Amazing vocal power.
They're singing about the tropical Top End of Australia, hot, wet, with cyclones and crocs. Jimmy does excellent high harmonies. Check out his duet with Tina Turner of 'Simply the Best.' Cheap Wine and a Three Day Growth is a great showcase of his voice. The great Don Walker wrote many of their songs, real songs, with proper development and modulations.

Chisel is special !
And this is when they were about 50. Watch some of their early stuff from the late 70s, insanely good.
I know this is a thing, but it still blows my mind that Cold Chisel is virtually unknown outside of Australia and NZ.
Aussie rock fans regularly argue over who is better - AC/DC or Cold Chisel!!
Cold Chisel without a doubt
Definitely Chisel (a New Zealander's opinion). 😊
Ian Moss singing Georgia on my Mind is worth a look too. Great guitar, great vocals.
also jimmy barnes was offered the van halen gig after david lee roth. but declined because he had 3 young kids at home and wanted them to be raised in australia with him there.
I love that they all wrote as well. Bow river was written by Ian Moss
Hey thanks Cheezy, My fav Ozzie band of all time....50 years and still going :)
Lead Singer is Jimmy Barnes and yeah his voice is brilliant , he can do soulful blues (He did a whole soul solo album at one stage) to great rock songs like the last one.
Ian Moss is lead guitar and singer of Bow River (Bow as in Bow Tie) with Barnsey providing awesome back up vocals. Mossy also did some solo stuff that is quite good too
Seen them live as it was a massive bucket list item for me and they didn't disappoint.
Australian Royalty right there and RIP To the drummer Steve Prestwich who we sadly lost about a decade ago.
Not quite your speed metal and stuff like that but just good honest rock that'll get ya moving at a show :)
My late cousins favourite all time track - Bow River. RIP Janet
Props to all the Aussie's showing up in the comments section 😂😂
You just reacted to Australian rock royalty, Cold Chisel are arguably Australia's leading pub rock band and if you liked them then you have to react to The Angels ,Divinyls, Rose Tattoo Mental As Anything , Midnight Oil, INXS, Daddy Cool, Australian Crawl ,and a whole lot more If you are impressed by the harmonica player's circular breathing technique check out our native Australians the Aborigines playing their indigenous musical instrument the Digeridoo they can keep blowing for very long periods of time .using the circular breathing skill
Don't forget the Hoodoo Gurus.
You missed The Radiators! I followed the Rads all around Sydney in 83-87.
Two lead singers in Chisel…Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss the lead guitarist…great reaction❤
When Chisel are on form they are the greatest blues rock band in the world.
The guitarist/singer Ian Mossy (only ever referred to as 'Mossy' in Australia) also had his own successful solo career. His iconic song is 'Tucker's Daughter'.
Our greatest band, ever. Two lead singers, mostly Jimmy Barnes but Ian Moss fronts on many songs.
Wouldn’t go as far as to say the greatest band…. One of the great bands of Australia is more apt…. And yes as good as it gets as many many pub bands of the 60’s 70’s n 80’s… ALL WERE….
I wouldn't say greatest band, I still think ACDC might be ahead of them, but definitely one of the greatest.
Every member of the band wrote a hit song
The lead vocal is Jimmy Barnes however on a few songs Ian Moss (guitar) does the lead vocals.
absolutely brilliant Song 👊 also check out, 'Four Walls', for a very different vibe 😉 & 'Forever Now'.....they have numerous top Songs 👌
Moss filled in for America once when a band member got ill and did not miss a lick with no rehearsal here in Australia.
First concert I ever went to in 1981 had Cold Chisel as the support band. I'd never heard of them but man they were so good. Jimmy Barnes was chugging vodka like water and they blew the headline act away.
Who were Chisel playing back up for in 81?
I'd been going to Chisel concerts since 79, and they were always the main band.
You can't be getting old... coz that would mean so am I 😄
I got into Chisel early.
The 2nd video came out around the time the album with both songs came out in 1982. The video of Bow River was from a reunion tour in 2003.
You should check out Jimmy doing a duet with John Farnham. It is on his soul deep album. Always do both of them live. Also another Aussie group The Teskey Brothers doing Hold Me live. Thanks for the reaction.
John farnham's help live with the Melbourne orchestra has to one of the best performances ever recorded
Jimmy Barnes is an Australian Treasure!
Cold chisel had 2 lead singers, Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss, both exceptional singers and song writers
WA Cattle station
Bow River is in the Northern Territory which is the "The Top End" Ian refers to in the song, in Australia the Norhern Territory is known as the Top End... Cold Chisel & Jimmy Barnes (when he went solo) have the greatest pub tunes all throughout Australia... classic Aussie pub music... with many memories of some of the greatest times of my life...thank u Cold Chisel & Barnseys....
Wow Ian Moss.Jimmy.😎❤️
Who else flashed back to a pub, standing around a pool table near closing time with three beers on a wobbly bar table and a glassy telling you "you don't have to go home but you can't stay here"
Nobody drank a bottle of vodka on the back of a roadies motorbike like Jimmy
You need to see them earlier version of wild thing live performance last stand version
What real rock bands used to be
You'll see jimmy's vocals and Ian's 🎸 skills are amazing one very tight band this was the last time they played together as Jimmy went solo and cold Chisel continued on with Ian but Jimmy used to go back from time to time
Also look up Jimmy barnes and Joe bonamassa Stone cold amazing vocals and two amazing guitar 🎸 solo's and jimmy's in his 50s singing this just keeps getting better
Cold Chisel was a pub band in origin until success but never changed even in fame and Jimmy has his own site and still talks to fans as well as his family as his kids sing as well Jimmy Aussie ledgen
Another Aussie ledgen you might want to look at as well John Farnham does help with Melbourne symphony orchestra
Also the voice with Melbourne symphony orchestra and got voted the voice in Australia 🇦🇺
If you want to watch these two sing together look up
Jimmy barnes and John Farnham titled when something wrong with my baby live version also guitarist 🎸 another Aussie solo singer johnny diesel and he's jimmy's brother inlaw these should give you a taste and john Farnham sings all genre amazingly
Down here their know as farnsy and barnsy even though competitors are friends and have great respect for each other and drop in on each other's concert's when in same place and sing a song together they bother come from work class stock cheers mate
'The guy singing the higher notes' is the legendary Jimmy Barnes - there ain't nobody is Oz who doesn't know who he is!
Welcome to the Aussie rabbit hole of rock and Cold Chisel
Aussie pub rock royalty.
They are sensational!!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
CLASS ACT.!
🏴+🇦🇺= chisel
😉😃
✌🏻🌏🇦🇺🤘🏻
Welcome to the rabbit hole of Aussie music! Enjoy the ride! 😁👍🏼🇦🇺
Aussie pub rock dialled up to 11!😅😂😊
Jimmy Barnes was asked by Eddie Van Halen to replace David Lee Roth when he left in 1985
WELCOME.... to the world of CHISEL
Ian Moss is the Lead guitarist and sings the most in Bow River
Jimmy Barnes, also known as 'Barnsy' has the raspy voice and sings You Got Nothing I Want.
Well said mate, these songs can bring a tear to the eye.
Aussies favourite rock band. Locals preferred Cold Chisel even over ACDC or INXS
Jimmy Barnes is the main lead vocalist but Ian Moss just as talented and takes the lead on a number of songs.
Check out Jimmy Barnes and another Aussie Hard hitter John Farmham singing When Something is Wrong with my Baby
This is the song Chisel told American Music labels jam it as they wanted to change chisels sings Jim said NO get fucked n wrote this about them n was N#1 4 19wks straight..
Other songs Jenelle, SatNight n my fav Shipping Steel
Aussie legends 👏👏👏
They played in pubs all over Sydney (& elsewhere) Great live
Great reaction, cheers matey
Great comments and reaction, dude!
The story I heard was that record exec skipped a meeting because he had to go to a funeral. For someone's dog !! You can imagine how Jimmy took that.
Jimmy Barnes and Cold Chisel are legendary in Australia.
I’ve seen them live several times over the years, including recently. They always put on one hell of a show.
Seems a Genuine reaction...
Big Like
🇦🇺
Hi just found your channel 😁 FYI the singer at the start of the video is Ian Moss, his great albums include Matchbook.
Check out the 80's Australian bands they are phenomenal and people young and old still crave for this style of music today!
😎🧀🤘
Some of the greatest Bass playing one will ever hear and feel... aside from all other greatness going on.
Bow River just down the road
World class
You aren’t Australian if you don’t know cold chisel……..legends
They played in pubs in the area I grew up.Great live.$8:00 to get in back then(1970's)
Loving this. Saw this band so many times. I still get a kick out of them.
FYI.. US passed on cold chisel saying "we have a bob segar" hahaha LOVE YA BARNSY
MATE....YA MISSED OUT!!!!❤❤❤❤👍👍🇭🇲🇭🇲🇭🇲🇭🇲
This band...and ALL the other bands mentioned.
