Make ' Bow River' from 2003 Ringside concert your next Cold Chisel pick..awesome
Thank you! When I do that one I'll give you a shout out! 🤘❤️🤘
Definitely 😀
I second this.
Bow River live at Ringside is an experience 👌🏻
Definitely
@@BemusingBill That is the ONE! :)
Ian Moss is the opening singer. He has a great voice. He originally was the lead singer in Cold chisel but wanted to step back so asked the band to find another lead singer. So they found Jimmy Barnes. Ian does the main singing in 'Bow River ' and other songs. He also does a fantastic rendition of the American classic, 'Georgia'.And if you haven't already done so, please react to jimmy Barnes and John Farnham at the ARIA Awards singing, 'When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.' It is fire!
Was gonna suggest Georgia as an all-round showcase of Ian's talent 👍
True that @@kcinsti
Mossy is a beast!!
This is written as if Cold Chisel existed for a long time prior to Jimmy coming along. That’s not accurate. Jimmy join them very shortly after, in 1973, even five years prior to them, releasing their first record
Bow River from the same concert is FIRE
I saw them on 19th October 2024 on their 50th anniversary tour. Let me tell you, it was everything I wanted, and more. Jimmy is my favourite artist, and Chisel, my favourite band.
Indeed the guitarist does sing. His name is Ian Moss. 4:03 is definitely him. 4:48 this is Jimmy ❤
Other members of the band include Don Walker on keys, Phil Small on bass, and the late Steve Prestwich on maracas (he plays drums regularly). RIP Steve 🕊️
PS Jimmy can sing clean when he wants, he sings ballads, rock, rockabilly, jazz, country and my favourite, soul…..Chisel formed in 1973, with their first album in 1978. They broke up in 1983, but released an album the year after. Since then they have reformed for other concerts and to release more music. Hence their 50th anniversary tour 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for the info my friend! Now that I know the band, I'll be giving them more shout outs going forward. Oh, there will be much more Cold Chisel right here!
This won’t be your only time with Cold Chisel. We are so blessed to have not only one amazing lead singer but two of them. Ian Moss and Jimmy Barnes compliment each other well. Now time to check out “bow river” live from this same gig
Chisel - just celebrated 50 years of rocking Aus - the Best Band; everyone in the band are champions; Jimmy rips with raw rock soul & gives his all; Ian moss, one of Australia's best guitarists and a great singer *(Chisel's first singer before Jimmy) & blends so well with Barnsey's powerhouse performance and then the main songwriter and backbone of the band commander on the keys Don Walker - Don is one of Australia's best and leading songwriters
What an intelligent reaction! I’m subscribing based on this alone. Thanks!
Thought and did the exact same thing ❤
Cold chisel is a deep rabbit hole to go down the band is out of this world
I'm looking forward to the journey! 🤘❤️🤘
Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
Great reaction.. usually when someone reacts to Jimmy Barnes
and/or Cold Chisel their subscribers increase a lot as people from Australia just love our musicians finally getting the recognition they deserve
Cold Chisel are so revered in Australia they are considered the best band to come out of Australia even AHEAD of other great Australian bands
AC/DC and INXS.
As well as bands like silverchair, midnight oil, crowded house, men at work, Bee Gees, savage garden, wolfmother, divinyls, icehouse )to just name a few).
Jimmy Barnes is considered by many to be equally ranked as number ONE with fellow Australian singer John Farnham as the best singer in Australia. If you get a chance you may want to watch and listen to Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham singing a Duet together called “when something is wrong with my baby”
Jimmy and his whole family are talented most his kids sing and play instruments. You will often hear Jimmy’s daughters singing with him and one son is a great drummer whilst the other sings in musicals and has sung on broadway. Jimmy like his son can sing clean. Plus Jimmy can sing country, blues, soul, rock, pub rock etc. as someone has said somewhere already the best song to hear Jimmy “clean” would be choir girl a great song about a woman going thru a termination from the guys point of view. A lot of cold chisels songs are deep and have a lot of meaning to them.
In my opinion if you want to see Jimmy Barnes best vocal performance as a solo artist that would be him singing the cover of “a change is gonna come”
BUT basically anything from Jimmy and cold chisel is phenomenal 😊
Jimmys natural singing voice is similar to Mossy's voice and perfectly suited to soft rock as well as the high head voice backing vocals during the early part of Mossy's leed vocals.
Jimmy is also an excellant SOUL vocalist with either his smooth or raspy voice, and both go from baritone up through tenor to extremely high head voice.
I believe Mossy was the early leed vocalist but wanted to concentrate on his guitar playing, so they hired Jimmy's older brother, John Swann, as their vocalist.
Swannee had other goals for his own future and recommended they audition his 15 yo brother, Jimmy Barnes, for the job.
Swannee was also fired for punching out a roadie. lol
You’ve clearly read Jimmy’s books. I have too. Since reading Jimmy’s books I’ve lost all respect for Swanee mostly because of this incident you’ve just described here and also because Jimmy said John was discharged from the army during basic training for insubordination and John now cashes in on the idea that he was a full serving member who saw live action. He’s guilty of stolen valour. I think Jimmy likes to keep some distance between himself and his brother.
@@Laraine3
I haven't read any of Jimmy's or Swannee's books, but i do keep my ears open and read a lot.
Try to sort the lies from truth, but not always 100 % successful. lol
Dr Kapp often lets me know when I'm wrong. 🤔
@@Rassskle yeah, Kappy is fantastic. I have a very soft spot for her. Xx
Only recently went to see them on the 8th and they were simply amazing.
You are at the entrance of a great rabbit hole.
Best wishes from Brisbane, Australia
So many memories of sneaking out to see Chisel in Adelaide when I was under age to pubs - I've seen a lot of internationals and nobody comes close to both Chisel and INXS.
Ian Moss, the 2nd lead vocal was a 1% elite male singer, who warmed the crowd up for Johnny Barnes, one of the few greatest male vocalists in history.
Chisel has the brilliance of two great singers, Barnsey and Mossy. This was from a tour about 15 years ago. Just saw them for the 50th Anniversary tour and they are just better each time I see them!
Saw them 2 weeks ago in Perth. Still sound amazing ❤
Yep....Next stop Bow River❤
Try Wild Thing. That's the Cold Chisel i knew from the 80s
You have no idea how happy this makes me Bill!!! Cannot wait to share in your journey into Cold Chisel & more Barnsey. The legend Ian Moss (Mossy) is on acoustic guitar/singing on this one 👏👏👏👏🇦🇺🇦🇺🥰 Wonderful reaction - I shed a lifelong fan tear or two!! 🥹
Thank you so much, my friend! Just the beginning of my journey! 🤘❤️🤘
@@BemusingBill oh yes!! I’m so exited 😁 looking forward to your journey x
YES!!! Chisel 🤘.
They're a daily playlist in my car....
I've been a huge fan for 50 years. Mossy has a beautiful voice.
Chold Chisel is Australian rock royalty. AC/DC, INXS, Midnight Oil, Crowded House, Ice House, Powderfinger, and Silverchair are other great Australia bands. Most people know AC/DC and INXS. Massive international success. Crowed House are more a New Zealand band but formed in Melbourne Australia after the break up of New Zealand band Split Enz.
This is my absolute favourite version of this song. I just went to their 50th anniversary tour they are still brilliant live, they did this closer to the original single version just a touch slower.
Jimmy Barnes - Vocals 73 - present
Ian Moss - Vocals Guitar 73 - present
Don Walker - Keyboard 73 - present
Phil Small - Bass 75 - present
Steve Prestwich - Drums 73 -2011 ( Born 5 March 1954 - Died 16 January 2011)
Charley Drayton - Drums 2011 - present
I like to call Jimmy and Ian the velvet sledgehammer Ian's voice is calming and smooth as velvet
then Jimmy comes in and smack you across the head with his sledgehammer voice
Jimmy used to be softer, but over the years, his voice got harsher, and he sang louder. I am not a big fan of Jimmy's voice in recent years but back in the 70s and 80s, his voice was really good, and he did not try to scream as much.
@@martinwhite3559 Jimmy does not scream at all if he did he would have blown his voice out decades ago
Love the Velvet Sledgehammer thing, sums them up so well
@@martinwhite3559Jimmy has power and total control of his voice. You don't scream for 50 years and keep your voice

m.th-cam.com/video/KwZJGJu7vJY/w-d-xo.html
This specific live performance is the best, and in 4K. You will also hear a harmonica play, like you have never heard before in your life.
American radio stations didn't play Aussie Music , So many of you are catching up finally.
Sometimes, I think that 50 years I spent not listening to pop/rock/metal are actually an advantage now. I'm pretty much open to listen to anything, just to see what I may have missed. I have found a lot of stuff I didn't like, for sure, but I also continue to find a lot of music that, if I was younger, and used to listening to a certain kind of music, I might not have checked out, which would be my loss. This band, of course, I found through listening to Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa. The talent and the passion just blow me away.
I think that is an advantage at least in the sense of making discoveries today. I was always open to any form of music but just like my sudden love for yogurt which I always hated throughout my life, I'm even more appreciative of music I may have ignored or disparaged in the past. I've come to the realization after doing this channel for a year, that I will never ever know all the bands/artists in the world- it's impossible! Thank you so much for opening the door for Cold Chisel, my sista! ❤️
I had the pleasure of seeing Cold Chisel in February 2019 at week before covid sent Australia into lockdown. Was awesome and in my top 5 of over 100 artist's/band's that I have seen live
Ian Moss...the engine room of Chisel......🙏
Next Wednesday night I’ll be front row for Cold Chisel 😁
That was great! My 1st experience w/Jimmy Barnes was a song he did with INXS for the Lost Boys soundtrack called Good Times way back in the 80's. Thank you!! ❤❤
I heard about that and I've seen the movie a dozen times although not in the last several years. I was a fan of INXS too! Thank you my darling, V! Much love to you! ❤️❤️
My 3 favourite bands are Led Zeppelin, Metallica and Cold Chisel...that is how highly i rate Chisel...they just don't have a bad song, two great lead singers, every band member writes songs and they play multiple genres. Oh and the band are really tight and renowned for being great live. I suggest their cover of Wild Thing from the 1983 Last Stand concerts.
Ian Moss is his name. He is a fn Australian Musical LEGEND in his own right
You are spot on regarding the combination of harsh and clean vocals. Jimmy Barns is the former, and Ian Moss the latter. Amazing harmonies when the two sing together.
Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham 'when something is wrong with my baby' highlights both Aussie icon's voices. Awesome reaction.
More cold chisel please! ❤❤❤
Fantastic performance and song by iconic Aussie band.
Glad to be here for the start of your journey. Peanut butter and Jelly❤
one of the greatest from the best Australia has to offer. Cold chisel 50th anniversary this year and we have grown up listening to these songs cant remember one Cold Chisel song that was not a hit.
Thank you!
Great reaction thanks
Well after that reaction Sir I’m going to subscribe to your channel! I love Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes I’m going down the Sabaton rabbit hole they are incredible
Great reaction, thanks! 8:30 I’ve never heard Barnes and Moss described as peanut butter and jelly! 😅
🤣🤣🤣Thank you, my friend! 🤘❤️🤘
I had to laugh at the PB&J comparison. Apt
I've always said john smooth top shelf whisky and Jimmy is the 100 proof moonshine
Ian Moss also known by Aussies as Mossy is iconic in his own right
I dig it when react videos take a look at the lyrics as well. Loved your vid mate, great job
Thank you, friend! 🤘❤️🤘
I love Jimmy Barnes, I think his voice got even better with age. He has a lot of solo stuff on YT as well. He collabs with Joe Bonamassa and Joe's daughter sings backing vocals.
My first experience with Jimmy was a song he did with Joe. Fell in love with his voice right there! 🤘❤️🤘
Great reaction. New subscriber because you played the legends Cold Chisel.
I saw them in Sydney last week for the first time since 1978, This song was written by Cold Chisel Drummer Steve Prestwich who is on the Shakers,The Band is Jimmy Barnes Ian Moss Guitar and Vocals Phil Small Base and Steve Prestwich Drums, Steve passed away in 2011 and his place was taken by American Charley Drayton whos Australian Wife Chrissy Amphlet of the Divinyls passed in the same year. Here is some great footage of the show last week on their BIG Five 0 50th Anniversary tour in Sydney Australia doing Flame Trees Jimmy speaks about Steve and has a Ghost experience of him and also their 1978 Vietnam war Song Khe Sanh th-cam.com/video/ig6Nc0wbd1Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=crxpa-_8_ZCu-CCp > Go down the Cold Chisel ( Barking Spiders ) Rabbit hole you wont regret it
I too saw them a few weeks ago. It was their warmup show but it was like they'd never stopped playing. This was as The Barking Spiders at Thirroul. A great night.
In my opinion Cold Chisel are the best band of all time..am 53 and have been a fan of 40 years.
I sold my car in 1997 so I could fly to Sydney when they reformed the first time.
They are playing here in New Zealand on 25 jan, and i am taking my 13 year old son.
Will be his first concert and I am looking forward to it.
For some reason he is a massive fan also as is my wife 😊
First time on your channel. I saw cold chisel reaction and I friggen love Cold Chisel. jumped on then I saw your Dio Holy Diver poster and yep I thought this is my music. Two of my favourite singers Jimmy Barnes and Ronnie James Dio. Great reaction by the way. If I would recommend a chisel song it would be a cover of Wild Thing. Much love and look forward to more of your reactions.
This is officially the greatest song ever written as voted by me (I even did a cover on my channel) This song is so unique in that it starts with the chorus. I love this version but the original studio version has such a great guitar solo. Guitar player is Ian Moss and he has one of the best voices in Australia!
The second greatest song ever written is Flame Trees by Cold Chisel.
This song was written by the Drummer Stephen Prestwich who is sitting beside Mossy with the shaker. All five members of the band wrote a hit song.
They are a great band! Thanks for the info, my friend!
Just subscribed 💥
You would love the band rose tattoo 🔥🔥🔥
I know the name probably because the singer was in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. Never heard a single tune that I'm aware of. Thank you, my friend!
@@BemusingBill rock n roll outlaw🔥🔥
All band members wrote songs in the band, Don Walker being the major influence of most lyrics. Cold Chisel are highly revered for their ability to tell beautiful stories through song - "Flame Trees" and Khe San" are 2 other great examples, along with their entire catalogue. An art sadly lost in modern music.
I really enjoyed your reaction. Hope you continue down the Cold Chisel journey.
Thanks Bill! Absolutely love this!
Thank you, my friend! 🤘❤️🤘
You NEED to do Wild thing Cold Chisel live1983 , it will blow your mind
It brings back great memories 👏
Gotta listen to Cold Chisel 2003 ringside concert
Listen to the The Go-Betweens if you want to hear an excellent Aussie band!
He did a small quiet studio cover of Fire And Rain with another aussie legend named Marcia Hines.
It is a perfect example of his really deep down and low and gentle crooning voice. He uses a very soft voice and shows a whole other side of himself.
Look up *Jimmy Barnes & Marcia Hines - 'Fire And Rain' (Live - My First Gig)* it wont disappoint as it shows just how expansive his skill base really is.
Thank you for the recommendation my friend!
Classic aussie pub rock ,slightly different to your conventional rock music ,to me anyway just feels diffeent ,and live fucking amazing
Chisel came to the US in the 1970's , unfortunately the record companies wanted to change everything about them if they were going to sign them up. Obviously they said no, take us as well are or don't record companies didn't like the answer do they came home. They wrote a song about it, it's called you've got nothing I want should check out if you have a mind to.
Correct, two lead singers, though Jimmy is number one. Our greatest band. Hughley diverse range of songs to explore. Currently on tour.
My late dad use to refer to Jimmy as “that screaming idiot”. I love his voice but my dad was into Slim Dusty, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Hank Williams and Johnny Horton.
Coffee's hot, and the toast is brown.
Sarah Vaughan could, too.
A fantasticly soulful song about separation
You also gotta check out Australian legend John Farnham covering this song live Melbourne 2003
You should watch their version of Wild Thing from their last stand concert, you'll see young rock Jimmy
Bon Scott -> Jimmy Barnes Scotish Australians tough rough loved drinking and singing = Aussie Rock legends
Mate, I’ve never seen your channel, but judging by your posters, you and I have very similar music tastes 😂
This Cold Chisel song is one of many iconic tracks that this legendary band has made over the years - in many ways they wrote the soundtrack to Australian life from the 70s to the 90s.
A tip with Cold Chisel videos on TH-cam: for some unknown reason the quality of videos on their official channel is not great, but fellow Chisel fan Dr_KAP has remastered a bunch of videos and posted them on her page. I would absolutely recommend having a look at her channel for future videos.
Case in point, compare the “Forever Now” official video from both, one seems like an old VHS rip, the sound is that bad!
Keep it up dude, I look forward to the deep dive into Chisel, possibly starting with “Bow River” from the same concert video (Ringside).
Thanks, mate! I really appreciate the recommendations and the tip regarding the better videos on the other channel. Some of my favorite artists are from Down Under: AC/DC, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Midnight Oil, Men At Work to name a few. I think Cold Chisel will be on that list as well! 🤘❤️🤘
@@BemusingBill we’ve got some great bands, just nowhere near as many as North America or Europe / UK.
Once you’ve checked out a few more Chisel tracks you should check out the general pub rock scene from the 70s and 80s in Australia. A lot of bangers, some from relatively unknown bands (one hit wonders etc).
If you like live videos, Midnight Oil’s “Oils on the Water” is one of the best I’ve seen.
Lyrics - it's about the marriage break-up of one of the band members.
@barnowl- really?!!, I have never heard that before 🤷♂️
I was always under the impression it was a getting out of jail song. My wife thinks it's a solder coming home from duty. I suppose that's one of the great things about music the ambiguity can lead it mean whatever we feel
❤❤❤ This is really captivating. 👋 Hai Gaye!! 😊
Very captivating! Great band! ❤️
Hi Pan!
Welcome to the ride. So much more
Thank you, my friend! 🤘❤️🤘
One fact Jimmy can still sing even when he has largitist he uses his small vocal cords so he might not be able to talk but he can still belt it out
Why talk when you can SING! And thank God he can still sing. Just did my first John Farnham song and learned that he can no longer sing.
jimmys son also sings very well David Campbell they have done some stuff together but a side note David Campbell spent many years singing on broadway, having seen him live he can sing just like jimmy but can sing normally as well well worth looking up
watch live concert of young cold chisel "wild thing" 1983 "last stand" concert - you wont regret it
Thank you, my friend! I'll be sure to give you a shout out when I do that one!🤘❤️🤘
Actually, Jimmy can do harsh distorted vocals and also clean clear vocals without the grit or distortion. Checkout Cold Chisel Choir Girl official video to hear him without the grit and distortion.
Jimmy can scream better than anyone I've heard, but he's not a one trick pony that's for sure. Check out 'Choir Girl' by Chisel for clarity.
Have you heard when something is wrong with my baby by Jimmy Barnes John farnham
Jimmy was not the original singer, Mossy was. Jimmy joined the band when Ian Moss brought him in. He was 16 and a half.
Jimmy was 16 when he joind chisel
Just a kid!
Absolutely need to check out Bow River from this same concert at the lonk below.
Classic rock track that builds and builds, great example of a band wherw theyre all equally talented and have that ease that only comes from so many years spwnt playing together.
th-cam.com/video/TdVRNDnTKTU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cNill8emHSpqVpFD
They have so many great songs but everyone always reacts to the same few songs. Try and branch out to songs like just how mant times and wild colonial boy.
Cool! thank you for the recommendations! I plan on cover as much as possible and those songs need love too! 🤘❤️🤘
