    He's a good player, and fans will love him in Tampa - but boy that was a lot to give up

    I don’t think they gave up much at all. A bum and some scratch tickets is nothing for Jeannot

    TB gave up little quality for a big winger who they hope can perform in the playoffs.

    Nashville fleeced them and it will look worse in time if any of the 5 picks hit. Jeannot currently has a minimal impact on the team.

      Nah. TB gave up very little value (from their perspective) for a young power forward who they have cost control over for the next few years

      @@tsak912An entire draft class is not "low value" lol it's already a bad trade with the possibility for it to be horrible still depending on the picks

    • @tsak912
      @tsak912 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is low value. Aside from the 1st rounder which, being at the bottom of the draft is really nothing for a team trying to win now.
      20 goal, young power forwards who fight don’t come cheap.

      @@tsak912 Jeannot is being over valued man, he isn’t doing anything, just like last year. Based on his rookie year, there was reason to be hopeful. Now, he could be easily replaced by anybody that hits. Which could be acquired for future considerations.

    • @tsak912
      @tsak912 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Did you watch the video?
      Corsi is up around 55, dzone starts 57%
      He’s on pace for 30-ish (mostly even strength) points and 250 hits.
      And he’s relatively cheap cap wise.
      Big strong guys who play a defensively sound game do not grow on trees.
      “Anyone who hits”…in todays NHL? Not too many of those guys lying around.
      The draft picks aren’t worth much to TB and, as a leaf fan; I can tell you that you need these big body players in the playoffs which is what TB got this kid for.

    I find it difficult to quantify how this trade could be a win for Tampa.

    • @MistaZULE
      @MistaZULE 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tampa's model has always been to acquire gritty bottom 6ers on cheap deals so they can afford the large contracts for Hedman, Kucherov, Point, Vasilevsky and Sergachev. They already have 2 cups with their core and if Jeannot can provide cheap scoring depth in the playoffs to win a third then that's gravy.
      Jeannot might not be that good of a player, but they took a calculated risk to play better in the playoffs.

    • @ShawnBlaque
      @ShawnBlaque 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MistaZULEThat's strange then because losing in 6 to the Leafs in the 1st round isn't exactly doing better in the playoffs after making 3 straight finals.

      @@ShawnBlaque it's the playoffs... Good teams get knocked out despite the talent.
      Everyone was shocked the Leafs won. The Leafs fans especially. Don't act like this was some breakdown from the Lightning.

    Good player with a lot of utility. IMO, the Bolts overpaid, though obviously they're trying to get back to their cup winning ways and if Tanner helps get it done then it's ultimately worth it. The trade also allowed Tampa to move on from Pat Maroon. In many ways comparible to the Klim Kostin trade between Detroit and Edmonton, where Detroit essentially buys out Kailer Yamamoto's contract for Edmonton in exchange for Kostin's negotiating rights. Detroit and Tampa are obviously at different points...and I like what the Red Wings did here more, though time will tell how things turn out.
    Interestingly that 5th rounder from Tampa was then traded by Nashville to Detroit to move up in the 2nd round of the 2023 draft from #47 to #43. As a result Detroit ultimately wound up drafting Kevin Bicker 147th OA.

    • @hockeycollective
      @hockeycollective  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that's a good way to look at it man - he helps the Bolts win. He's not as flashy or skilled as you'd hope for that trade package, but he's got a lot of intangibles, plays the game the right way, and is a physical freak. A good player to take a chance on helping your team
