I don't know who put together this montage, but they're obviously biased. First of all they forgot to mention some of the most influential rappers in the history of Swedish hiphop. And during the golden age of Swedish hiphop you had Thomas Rusiak, Eye N' I, Feven, Laila K and Ken Ring among others. And of course Afasi & Filthy. (Although a duo, but worth a mention none the less) And while just barely touching on the Gothenburg scene with Kapten Röd, Roffe Ruff and Gubb, how could you forget Hofmästarn and Obnoxious? And btw, what the hell was Kapten Röd even doing in this montage? I'm a huge fan, don't get me wrong, but why did this dude include Reggae artists in a video about rap? Might as well put USCB Allstars, Governor Andy and Syster Sol in there while you're at it, just to name a few. But there's also Helt Off, Kalle Bah, Ras Cricket, Lide Najs, Storskogen, Glesbygdn and Daniel Lemma, and of course the king of Swedish reggae, Peps Persson, I could go on. Later 2000s, where's Adam Tensta and Fronda? Oh, and I almost forgot about the one and only, Chords. Timbuktu who was mentioned in this video has done a lot for Swedish hiphop, and for a long period of time he used to bring his right hand man Chords with him on tour, and Chords eventually started making solo projects as well. And how could they include Gonza-Ra in there without mentioning his home crew of Random Bastards, including Trainspotters, Academics, Cleo and Broder John & Friman. Oh yeah, speaking of Friman AKA Fricky, they make a video about rap music, and then they pick a song from a period when they had stopped rapping and started doing RNB instead? That's just unfair, Fricky used to lay down some sick lines back when he went under the name Friman and was actually rapping. And barely any focus on the women? I mentioned Feven and Laila K and Cleo already, but then there's Peshi, Linda Pira, Sylvana Imam, Maxida Märak, Lilla Namo and Beri. And on the more mainstream side of the genre, there's Dani M, Form One, Erik Lundin, Yung Lean, Mwuana to name a few. This guy only scratched the surface of Swedish hiphop, so you have a lot to discover if you're into this kind of music. This was a nice video, but I couldn't let it go by without mentioning some of the big ones who really laid down the foundation of what Swedish hiphop is today.
I think the problem is that most of the videos about Swedish rap and the hip hop scene is made by people that mostly have living in the era of todays rap. All these amazing artists that we know are more independent and not mainstream. That makes them lose some spotlight in videos like this. Its sad to see because it is there you find all the real good lyrical artists. Haha shit jag behöver träna på min engelska 😅
Many people from Chile fled to Sweden during Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship in the 70s. Olof Palme was Sweden's prime minister (social democrat) at the time and he was openly very critical of dictatorships and he "opened the borders" for Chileans fleeing Pinochet's oppression and persecution and welcomed them to come to Sweden and become Swedish citizens. When Olof Palmade was murdered in 1986, Chileans sat and wept openly in the streets of Stockholm as he had been a hero to them. So yes, there are quite a few with Chilean background in Sweden and the band The Latin Kings consisted of members with Latin American origin (most of them with Chilean background and one with a Venezuelan parent and a Swedish mother).
One of AIKs (a swedish football club based in Stockholm for you who don't know) most prominent supporter groups a couple of years ago was called "La Garra Negra". The founding members and alot of the rest of the members hails from South America and Latin america, many of them from Chile and Peru.
As a part swede I just want to say thanks Dwayne for your refreshing objective view on our culture, language and traditions. Its very satisfying that you enjoy our music as much as us! But with some good knowledge about brittish and american music as well, wich makes your compliments that much more enyojable. Keep up the good work and I wish you much success with your channel! Kind regards from Sweden!
I think the person who shaped Swedish hiphop/rap the most was Quincy Jones III. While he grew up in Stockholm, he moved to the states to make a career. In the States I think he's best known as 2pac's and Ice Cube's producer and founding the "west coast sound". After 2pac got shot, Quincy moved back to Stockholm, where he started a studio to support the still young Swedish scene. Not only as a producer and publisher - he actually helped these kids with their homework and shit like that.
@@liiiinder A surprising number of American jazz musicians married Scandinavian women in the 60's and 70's. So there's plenty of children of american jazz legends who grew up in Scandinavia. Eagle-Eye Cherry is another of those jazz-children who people tend to assume is american because of his father.
The Christmas song was supposed to be a criticism of Christmas being very traditional and doing the same thing every year but now it’s part of Swedish Christmas traditions 😅😅
If you like to here swedish reagge listen to Peps Persson (he was active for decades and even worked with Timbuktu who is in this video). Try ”Oh Boy” and ” Lived po lanned ”.
You should definitely check out Random Bastards. It's a collective from Umeå in northern Sweden who has some sick as rappers in it. Including Gonza-Ra and Fricky(Friman).
The Petter song that was in, the other guy in green is Thomas Rusiak, he did very well on his own and in English, his album Magic Villa from 2000 is a REALLY good album and he was on his way to try to break in the US and 9/11 happend and put sticks in the wheels for obvious reasons and himself have said it was for the best because he didnt like to be famous. His song Hiphopper made him very famous around here from that album.
I had to write a comment, as an avid hip hop fan and Swede, I do felt like they skipped out on a few heavy hitters that majorily influenced the Swedish hip hop music and culture: Feven (dom tio budorden) Lilleman (vart tog pappa vägen) Fattaru (mina hundar/första femman) Adam Tensta (my cool/dopeboy) Afasi & Filthy (glider/boomfalleralla) Promoe (these walls dont lie) Prop Dylan (can you imagine) Erik Lundin (suedi/välkommen hem) There are of course many more, but for me these definitely deserve to be included.
Your analysis is great and very spot on considering not speaking Swedish, it shows you are well versed in Rap and HipHop culture in general, Would love to see you react to the full version of some of the artists you liked!
I love Kapten Röd, especially Ju mer dom spottar. Awesome song. Also, I want to give a shout out to a lesser known swedish rapper. Her name is Sofijah. She became an internet phenomenon at the age of 14 and wrote songs for a couple of years. Never publish anything officially, but there are a lot of her songs here on TH-cam. A year ago, she re-launched her singing career with new music. I'd love for you to give her a listen! Best songs, if you ask me, are Fly away and Du kom som en vind from her early period and Hon är liv and her most recent song Förtrollad (released on friday the 20th of september) from her re-launch.
So many rap reactors lack knowledge of hip hop culture, which an amazing change to watch your content and specially in this video it shows. And about Dizzee Rascal, he's def well known in Sweden, actually the video for Bonkers was filmed in Stockholm.
Kapten röd is a very big reggae artist here, as you might've guessed hehe, suuuper chill guy! Another big reggae artist is General knas with his famous Ganja song "12/12". If you'd like to hear some IMO really good rap from sweden that isn't mainstream recognized i'd recomend ODZ (Original Dunder Zubbis), they truly have their own sound! Ofc they are best enjoyed if you can understand swedish, but alot of their songs also have rally nice party vibes. Edit: made this comment just before you heard ODZ lmao, and yeah they are... not the most law abiding group.. altough they aren't the types to go out and fight or do violent crimes, just some typical vandalism, as u saw and ALOT of narcotics. Most of their tracks are about drugs and partying.
Gonza-ra and Fricky are a part of the same hip-hop group Random Bastards from northern Sweden. They make really original rap, often influenced by the Swedish north and with a heavy northern accent
Omg! So i have followed you for a long time, you seem to be such a genuine person. Kapten röd is one of my favorite artists from Sweden. The lyrics and feel of the songs are everything. Please react to some of his music. All is great! Hopefully you can find some English subtitles. Keep up the good work😃🙏♥️
Awesome video! Sweden has alot of wack ass rap but also some dope ass underground ish ofc. I can't belive Fattaru or Fjärde Världen wasn't in this video around 2001, I even belive they are in Guniess World Record for fastest rap. Whatever, looking forward to you reacting to some swedish hiphop
Some artists that you are missing out because they weren't really included in this video: Looptroop (started in 1991 and is pretty much a Swedish original rap stapple. Personal favorites are Struggle continues, Bandit queen and the building) Promoe (The lead singer in Looptroop have some breakout songs like These walls dont lie) Ken Ring Adam Tensta Thomas Rusiak Fronda Advance patrol Fattaru Svenska Akademin (Swedish reggea rap) Eye n'i Ison & fille Supersci Chords There's a bunch more but these are the bigger ones that i felt that are obviously left out.
Einár was killed in Stockholm in 2021, who killed him is still not known. And in 2023 the police put the case in the Cold Case file. He was 19 when he died.
You had really good inputs and reflections based on your big knowledge about hiphop and rap. This video summarizes all of the different styles in Sweden (old school rap, evolutional rap, EPA rap (hip hop-funk-rap), “ghetto rap”, “Swedish boy band- but rap”. As you see, very wide and broad rap, but in the end, everyone shares their truth and meaning in different STYLES
No way there's no Yung Lean in this vid. When you were talking about "finding our own sound" etc I instantly thought wait til 2010 and you'll hear the man who influenced (perhaps even started) soundcloud rap, emo rap, Travis Scott and other artists after him. Yung Lean is a legend but also the people around him, Yung Gud's production on Ginseng Strip 2002 is insane.
Sure but Yung Lean is not really considered Swedish rap. He's an international artist rapping in English and have very little to do with what's happening in Sweden, imo. I don't believe people in Sweden generally listen to Yung Lean either but I could be wrong.
@@777mannen-bx5ji That's like saying Abba had nothing to do with Sweden because they are international, of course Swedes like myself are still gonna be proud of them. Every single teen in Sweden dresses like Yung Lean did (and got made fun of) in 2013. He also has a small Swedish punk band by the name "Död mark" which I really enjoy.
@@tobbetobster9930 well, I guess it depends on definitions here and how people may view it subjectively. To be completely honest, with all Yung Lean's success he had very little cultural impact on Swedish rap and its sound. The whole "sad boy" thing etc. But it's one of these weird things with Sweden. For example, largest TH-camr in the world used to be Pewdiepie... but he's almost never in the Swedish press or talked about in Sweden...and I don't think teens dressed the way they are dressed has anything to do with Yung Lean to be honest.
@@777mannen-bx5ji To be fair tho Pewdiepie is more targeted for the youth, and the youth don't really listen to the press so there's no reason for them to be posting about Pewdiepie. He's still talked about amongst the youth. If you're a Swede and you listen to cloud rap you most likely recognize Yung Lean as the inventor of the genre, if you're American you'll probably say it's Lil B. Much how J. Dilla and Nujabes can both be credited for inventing lo-fi hiphop, both were doing it around the same time, one in America, on in Japan.
Two of the ones you praised the most for their skills, Gonza-Ra and Fricky, are part of the same crew/label called Random Bastards. You got a bunch of other great rappers there, like Trainspotters(Käp & Erk) and Cleo.
While others have mentioned additional noteworthy artists and other influential people for the scene (like QD3), I think it's also worth expanding on the impact Petter had in bringing "serious" hiphop to a mainstream audience; his first two albums (Mitt sjätte sinne (1997) & Bananrepubliken (1998)) reached 5th and 1st place on the Swedish album charts, and several tracks were frequently played on mainstream radio stations (which for me, at the time at least, seemed like a distinct shift in mainstream acceptance). He has released another seven albums that charted in the Swedish top 10 (in 2004, 06, 10, 13, 16 & 2018), he additionally has a total of eight top 10 singles (released between 1998 and 2021, with the peak(s) being 2nd place x3). The length of Petters career is also starting to become seriously impressive, and he is still very actively producing and still quite a household name even (or perhaps especially) outside the main hiphop scene. In some sense, I think just listening through Petters discography will paint a more accurate picture of the evolution of Swedish hiphop (compared to listening to the random list of varying styles in that video), as he obviously both follows and influences trends, as well as have collaborated with a wide range of other prominent Swedish artists. Then again, obviously that would deprive you of the breadth of styles present in Sweden. Finally, I guess Markoolio should be mentioned for the mainstream effort with his (mostly crude) comedy rap, which has indeed outsold Petter with several chart topping singles and two chart topping albums, as well as a bunch that reached top 10.
ps. there's a very interesting interview with the group Sherlock (in Swedish) published by Sonic Magazine in October last year (2023) titled "Hiphopens vardagsrealism". Well worth a read for some insight into the early days of Swedish hiphop as well as into a group that was highly influential on Petter (according to himself).
You should check out Navigators "come into my life" and "superstar", Infinite mass "mah boys" and "area turns red", Kaliffa with "det strålar som om dig" and "helt seriöst" as well. They are some other great Swedish rappers. But there are so many more you have only scraped the surface and I had never heard of some of the last but then again I havent been back home to Sweden since 2019...
We have alot of great hiphop artists in sweden. unfortunately, we're are now in a time where gangsta rap is big among the young people so that is what is being pushed the most. Personally, I enjoy the more "joyful" or "everyday problems" type of hiphop the most, like Hov1 and Kapten Röd. Kapten Röd released his album "Fläcken som aldrig går bort" in 2011, and he would've been a great representation for swedish hiphop that year too with the song "Ju mer dom spottar på mig", but Labyrint really blew upp with "Ortens Favoriter" so i can see why they are the 2011 group. I wish this list had "the looptroop rockers - Heavy Rains" or "Fort Europa" as 2005 and "Promoe - these walls dont lie" as 2004. these songs shaped my generation of "hiphopers". I'm getting nostalgic hearing these song i grew up with 😅 it brings back memories of simpler times.
Love this video, i really appreciate your perspective both being from the uk and your knowledge about american rap. Im from sweden, and youve honestly ignited my interest in swedish rap!
I was hoping Mikrofonkåt would feature, if only to hear his reaction to it Edit: just looked it up, I only knew the September version. Not generally a listener of the genre and am definitely ignorant on its history
Brother we've been rapping since 1980's and you're asking if we've heard of Dizee Rascal? Bro... Comeon :) Love the reactions, you're spot on with your comparisons to american artists in regards to style etc. Very cool reaction video. keep em coming!
This is the first video of you that I’ve watched, and I have to say WOW, you really have sense for how people are feeling. Despite recognising very few words you”re always spot on. One example is Ẽinar -katten i trakten, he was talkning big (and got shot 2 years later) Hov1 is telling the story of the swedish youth. In to ”bo i andra hand” means to rent a place from someone who is renting it from someone else. In sweden you need a consistent job to rent a place directly. So for people studying, renting from somone else is just life, the worst part is that they don’t have to give you any real ”heads up”, so they can come to you one day and say that you need to be moved out tomorrow.
If you can find a copy of it with english subtitles then there is a great documentary in 4 parts called "The pioneers of Swedish hip hop" that really takes a deep dive into this whole thing.
Good video.. But brooo there is so much good songs missing from that video! I hope you could do more of this! I really recommend Einar, Timbuktu, Petter, Kartellen, Kapten Röd, Nääk & Nimo. And like one guy wrote in the comment, no songs from KEN RING? That is craaaazy.
ODZ is one of the groups i used to listen to most of the time, alot of ppl think they make gangster rap but in truth they make drug music. In the song Anna book, they use a Swedish celeberty that used to gain weight alot and then lose it(Jojo banta) as a synonym for getting high and getting down Vi går upp vi går ner vi är anna book vi Går upp = we going up vi går ner = we going down When we talk about wieght in Swedish we say "we go up in weight" and "we go down in weight" rather than say we gained/lossed a few kilos.
Petter who was in the video (year 1998) made a song with another swedish rapper called PeeWee and with Fintelligens who were included in the Evolution of Finnish rap multiple times. The song is called "Stockholm-Helsinki". I think it's a great song and rare collab between Finnish and Swedish artists and I think you'd like it. Also, now is the perfect time to check it out since you have done the evolution of rap from both countries.
I feel like it should be noted that that "Lyckliga gatan"-clip is a reference to a 1960-song of the same name about someone watching their old neighborhood being torn down to make room for a concrete-jungle. The original song is a wailing kind of "how will there be happiness here", and this song has a response of "we live here and we're happy". Which is genuinely a really cool clap-back, and I'm very grateful that youtube made me stumble across it thanks to you (rap isn't usually my scene).
Nice positive props, and great of you bigging up Swedish Hip Hop. Thanks. You missed some key artists like ADL, Stonefunkers, Timebomb, Feven, Breakin Bread’s many artists like Absent Mjnded, Boogaloo, Addis Black Widow, Hearin’ Aid, Daddy Boastin, Chimney Heads. Blacknuss Allstars, Ken Ring and Redlines many artists like Stor, Linda Pira…Iminella, Silvana Imam and many more girl rappers… just to name a few more. Keep it up.
You need to check out the group Labyrint, they are one of the pioneers of reggae hip hop in Sweden and one of the biggest influences to the Swedish hip hop game.
I'm gonna give you a name of a Swedish reggae artist who nobody else will mention. The name is P-Danjelsa. He's not a very famous artist but he's, in my view, the only person who's managed to make modern Jamaican music translated to a Swedish context, keeping the spirit of the original genre intact while infusing it with something unique from his own culture. I say this as a Swedish person who's been deep into Jamaican music from the 1980s until now. I would also recommend the song Maskin nr. 2 by Peps Persson, for a deeper understanding of how Jamaican music first took root in Sweden.
@@MartinVesiaidNilsson Not only the accent but also the culture specific content and attention to local geography. Most of all, the content in terms of tone, humor and subject matter emulates 1980s dancehall tradition in the style of artists such as Early B, Fathead, Nicodemus and many others, but translated linguistically and culturally to his own context. I think P-Danjelsa is unique in those regards, at least as far as I know.
@@Catrambi yeah, I can give you that point. Absolutely true. Most rap and reggeae in Sweden is mostly based on socio economic background. But with P Danjelsa we do get some true ethnic minority. Did he ever release more than 1 album, I need to go and check now.
If I remember correctly, Petter was the first one in the gangster rap/hip hop scene to really make it in the main stream by rapping in Swedish in the late 90's. After that a lot of rappers started rapping in Swedish. This compilation left out ALL of the women in the rap scene. Check out Silvana Imam, Maxida Märak, Cleo, Cherri, Linda Pira, to name a few. I'll recommend you also check out "Attitudeproblem" by P3 Remix (a collab with fem artists from Swe & Nor).
Looptroop/Promoe was in a colab in this video but I think that they/him deserves a deep dive, IMO the best of the best. Take Long distance runner as a starter.
I'm not excactly an expert on the matter, being Danish and all, but Promoe seems TOO anti establishment to really do the networking etc required to make it big. Kind of like Canibus in the US. That said LoopTroop A Modern Day City Symphony was and still is in rotation since 2000 for me. Great album!
@@phatrpr0p959 Probably true, it seems that he refuses to follow the Sheep and just wants to do his thing. I don't know how accureate the comparison is, but kind of like Bob Dylan. "I don't want attention, I don't care about money as long as I can get by, I just want to play my music"
I wish you would react to these together with someone swedish that could translate some of the lyrics and some of the background on so many of these great songs. Nice to hear ur perspective tho but would give it so much more depth. Props!
To make a video with all rappers that have inspired, revolutionised and been a part of the Swedish rap scene history in 6 minutes (original video) is hard it is still frustrating to see so many rappers being left out, for me personally I'm most surprised Ken Ring was left out being a part of the scene for 25 years. I do give the original video credit to have mention both commercial and underground artists, not all the best songs from the artist but who am I to say anything, I know this would be a hard task to tackle! Thanks Dwayne for giving it a go, happy you liked some of it!
Your guess about the last song “Barn av vår tid” was spot on. Translated it says “kids of our time” which basically is a Swedish saying for “we become like the environment we grow up in”. He is talking about how life is for kids growing up these days and some fucked up things in the society!
Which can be applied to every generation, the original "barn av vår tid" by Nationalteatern from the 70s talking how it was when they were kids. We will probably see more in the future.
@@ennisdelmar807 Actually it can not be applied. Since the Nationalteatern is a mythical creature and has not been proven at all. You have just made a huge mistake by lying to @zachoween7816 regarding all of this. State some facts or go to hell Ennis!

Awesome breakdown mate! That was a nostalgia trip for sure! You should definitely check out quite a few of these artists, cus imo their best tunes weren’t in the video. They also missed a few good ones, trend setter but im sure theres a bunch of suggestions here in the comments! But i can say, if you like the melodic reggae style def look up kaliffa, he sang in one of the tunes you liked.
Bob Marley was good friends with one of Sweden national treasures the late great Pepps persson, the father of Swedish reggae. Ive heard that he said that only two oeoples in the world can make genuine reggae, Jamaicans and skåningar (the south of sweden)
I dont even listen to hip-hop, but watched it anyway. Funny how these songs made it abroad, and someone made a video about them. I imagine Swedish hiphop fans feeling cozy after watching this.
They forgot to mention Movits!!!! Swing and hip hop! th-cam.com/video/C8fIVTH0TiM/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUGbW92aXRz And if you want more Swedish reggae, listen to Peps Persson and Syster Sol! Peps Persson started already in the 60s with reggae.
You should definitely react to ”Die Mauer - Ebba Grön” its a very old swedish song about the Berlin Wall, a classic already, rock/pop song its really good
Petter is the biggest Swedish rapper by far. Then the most mainstream is probably Latin Kings, Teddybears Stockholm, Just D, Timbuktu (dont know if hes really a rapper) and Kapten Röd. Maskinen had some really big hits with songs like "Alla som inte dansar är våldtäktsmän" (Everyone that does not dance are rapists) and somehwhat "Krossa alla fönster" Maskinen actually made comeback some months ago. People more into the genre probably listen to more underground rappers like Einar, Yashin Other big ones not mentioned here are Adam Tensta, Fronda, Ken Ring, Thomas Rusiak and Promoe. Promoe is really good and should have been bigger imo. Rusiak had a HUGE hit song together with Teddybears stockholm that has been in many movies and games called HipHopper, you have probably heard it. Swedish rap in general has alot of raggae in it.
I love Kapten Röd and Timbuktu. Petter is also good and I think you should listen to the whole song of Snook - Mister cool. I don’t listen to a lot of rap but I prefer the older/ early 2000s over today’s rap from orten“the hood”
I was literally about to comment exactly all of this. These are all classics if you want to start getting in to Swedish rap. To Dwayne: A good start would be to react to Timbuktu - Alla vill till himmelen men ingen vill dö.(this song is in this video) That song is such a classic, I wouldn't be surprised if 95% of swedes aged between 40-20 has heard it. Here is the music video with translated lyrics: th-cam.com/video/jo0B8BJCox0/w-d-xo.html
19:58 you’re so right, the name of the song is ”kids of our time” he’s singing about how twisted our world is, i could wright you a translation if you want
Swedish reagge is actually HUGE. Especially in the southern part. There are so many great bands! And I just wanted to point out, remember there is only one track for every year and hiphop has been pretty dominant ever since the 2000 in sweden, so you can branch out a lot of you want to and find different sounds. Many of my favorites wasnt even on here at all.
This is the translation of Hov1 - Barn av vår tid (Child of our time) :I am a child of our time, I would break free Where to live second hand my only option I lived upstairs with someone, almost as a collective And our neighbors from Italy, they drank too much wine Standing with feet on, feels the ground is hard
Redline recordings is the Swedish version of Ruthless & Deathrow records (Minus the violance) that introduced swedish Rap/gangsta rap. Redline recordings was established in 90s and their first artists where Latin kings.
Kapten Röd is one of my favorites, his lyrics are awesome, so i absolutely recommend that you google translate his songs if you decide to dig deeper into his music.
Not sure how the hell someone can make a list about swedish hiphop and not include LoopTroop or SvenskaAkademien. Especially when they include Organism12 and Kapten Röd.

I don't know who put together this montage, but they're obviously biased. First of all they forgot to mention some of the most influential rappers in the history of Swedish hiphop. When completely rushing over the pioneers they totally left out ADL, who made a huge imprint on the hiphop scene.
And during the golden age of Swedish hiphop you had Thomas Rusiak, Eye N' I, Feven, Laila K and Ken Ring among others.
And although he only barely mentioned Looptroop in that feature with Petter, I feel like Looptroop were kind of left out of the spotlight here. I mean, 'Long arm of the law', come on. And stemming from Looptroop you have Promoe, The Casual Brothers, and Embee who did a bunch of side projects on his own.
And while on the subject of crews, there's Fattaru, Advance Patrol, Ison & Fille (Which may or may not have been mentioned in this montage, can't remember), Supersci (Formerly known as Superscientificu), MMD, Sedlighetsroteln, Svenska Akademien. And of course Afasi & Filthy. (Although a duo, but worth a mention none the less)
And while just barely touching on the Gothenburg scene with Kapten Röd, Roffe Ruff and Gubb, how could you forget Hofmästarn and Obnoxious?
Thank you!

He produced a few of the songs on INFINITE MASS - ALWAYZ SOMETHANG album, that's how they managed to get MC EIHT to feature on it.
Didnt know about that! :O Crazy how Sweden could influence the world of music in such way it has with everything from Abba, max martin to spotify! 🤯

I had to write a comment, as an avid hip hop fan and Swede, I do felt like they skipped out on a few heavy hitters that majorily influenced the Swedish hip hop music and culture:
Feven (dom tio budorden)
Lilleman (vart tog pappa vägen)
Fattaru (mina hundar/första femman)
Adam Tensta (my cool/dopeboy)
Afasi & Filthy (glider/boomfalleralla)

Prop Dylan (can you imagine)
Erik Lundin (suedi/välkommen hem)
There are of course many more, but for me these definitely deserve to be included.
This is my childhood and for me what swedish rap is. Our "husmanskost😅"
They make really original rap, often influenced by the Swedish north and with a heavy northern accent
you got to check General knas and Syster sol, out for the reggae tunes :)
I guess they probably needed to keep one song per year or something? But I agree, there's for sure some masterpieces that I missed

"Are they really spray-painting a train?" 🤣
I do feel old when the 4 elements of hip-hop is like ancient (forgotten) history apparently.
Big ups to you man!!! Love the vids! Love from sweden!
Ginseng Strip is tight. Need to give that a relisten soon.
Love how every Random Bastards song made you do a double take. spoven 4 lyf.
The video i NEEDED‼️
You HAVE to listen to Fevens song De Tio Budorden. So good!!
Snook are VERY MUCH their own thing entirely, totally recommend them!

THANK YOU FOR THE NOSTALCIC TRIP,IM BORN 1981 AND I GREW UP TO US/SWEDISH HIP HOP.I FELT AMAZING LISTEN TO THIS ,IT REALLY TOOK ME BACK IN TIME!!!
Where are the women? I like Timbuktu most since it's not that gangsta-rap-shit AND because it's in skånska
I was hoping Mikrofonkåt would feature, if only to hear his reaction to it

You should listen to "O'boy" by Peps Persson for som Swedish Reggie. It's a classic. :)

In the song Anna book, they use a Swedish celeberty that used to gain weight alot and then lose it(Jojo banta) as a synonym for getting high and getting down
Vi går upp vi går ner vi är anna book
vi Går upp = we going up
vi går ner = we going down
When we talk about wieght in Swedish we say "we go up in weight" and "we go down in weight" rather than say we gained/lossed a few kilos.
Liked the list! I’ll follow for more song tips!

Not sure if I totally agree, but he makes good music. And a different accent helps him stand out.

@@ennisdelmar807 LÄR MIG DÅ

Petter is the biggest Swedish rapper by far.
Then the most mainstream is probably Latin Kings, Teddybears Stockholm, Just D, Timbuktu (dont know if hes really a rapper) and Kapten Röd.
Maskinen had some really big hits with songs like "Alla som inte dansar är våldtäktsmän" (Everyone that does not dance are rapists) and somehwhat "Krossa alla fönster"
Maskinen actually made comeback some months ago.
People more into the genre probably listen to more underground rappers like Einar, Yashin
Other big ones not mentioned here are Adam Tensta, Fronda, Ken Ring, Thomas Rusiak and Promoe.
Promoe is really good and should have been bigger imo.
Rusiak had a HUGE hit song together with Teddybears stockholm that has been in many movies and games called HipHopper, you have probably heard it.
Swedish rap in general has alot of raggae in it.
You forget that Timbuktu was in Sedlighetsroteln with Promoe, Cosmic, Embee, Supreme, Organism 12, PstQ, Seron amongst others so he's def a rapper.
Dizziee was huge overhere, actually played here a few months back, great show
I love Kapten Röd and Timbuktu.

Every land on earth has rappers. What an anglocentric world view. Good you're learning though.
This needs a deepdive. Lots more of songs and artist you could include.
Petter is like the Eminem of Sweden. He's been doing music for a long time. And he's also a sommelier of all things. 😂
Fun fact, Gonza-Ra is a friend of mine from high school. I bet he would love that you liked his rap-style!
Einar is dead 😢😢
Honorable mention: hiphop soul song "Blacknuss, Stephen Simmonds, ADL, Richie Pasta, Muladoe - Dinah"
I bought Rappers Delight in 1979. I actually also bought The Fatback Bands album with the first rap song on record even before Rappers Delight. 🇸🇪
some of your analysies are SPOT on
This is the translation of Hov1 - Barn av vår tid (Child of our time) :I am a child of our time, I would break free
Where to live second hand my only option
I lived upstairs with someone, almost as a collective
And our neighbors from Italy, they drank too much wine
Standing with feet on, feels the ground is hard
Redline recordings is the Swedish version of Ruthless & Deathrow records (Minus the violance) that introduced swedish Rap/gangsta rap. Redline recordings was established in 90s and their first artists where Latin kings.
You should really try to find some more Swedish underground hip hop! You can find some really unique stuff there!
As a swed you need to Petter more! Huge here and done many collabs 💕
Kapten Röd is one of my favorites, his lyrics are awesome, so i absolutely recommend that you google translate his songs if you decide to dig deeper into his music.
