    Is there a link to the starter clutch repair kit? Was it OEM or aftermarket? Your thoughts on the quality aftermarket quality if it was so. Please provide link if so. I apologize in advance if I missed it somehow.

    • @PaulPhillipsFix
      @PaulPhillipsFix  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry i don't have that link but you can find heavy duty aftermarket kits online. Look at the pictures and go for the ones with larger or more roller bearings in the sprag clutch. If you google the operation of a sprag clutch you'll better understand the function and operation of this assembly. Hi just got mine install, once I try to start it’s still slipping 2003 vstar 1100, could it be a bad new clutch starter?

    • @PaulPhillipsFix
      @PaulPhillipsFix  ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be a faulty new part as I've experienced that one before with automotive parts. Or you may have put the sprag in backward.

    I am in the middle of doing my starter clutch I have the timing marks lined up except the bottom gear timing mark dose not line up with the woodruff key like yours did. How do I get all 3 lined up at the same time?

    • @PaulPhillipsFix
      @PaulPhillipsFix  ปีที่แล้ว

      the middle gear is just a idler gear for the cam timing system in the Yamaha service manual page 4-51 the pic second from the bottom show where to align the crank shaft key way and the cam gear marks to the arrow on the head. that is the most important alignment. it will take 27 rotations of the crank to get the marks on the middle gear to line up. make sure you turn the motor with out spark plug out of the plug holes to make sure the motor will turn over freely if the valve hits the piston it will bend the valves on this unit

      It's been years since I did that job for a friend. I hope this may be of help. If not, let me know and I'll keep checking for the info you need. You should buy the Clymer Manual for this bike, it's a great book. www.ebay.com/itm/185585380373?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1pLaBXRN1TIaVH3R6IbP56w99&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-213727-13078-0&mkcid=2&itemid=185585380373&targetid=4580702891777580&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=&poi=&campaignid=418640321&mkgroupid=1233652283797640&rlsatarget=pla-4580702891777580&abcId=9300602&merchantid=51291&msclkid=b3ab250edb3010f30aab46364c47ac4e

      I found this on line My name is Tim, I have a 2007 Yamaha XVS 1100 custom. I had the infamous starter clutch problem, I got all the parts together, everything was going smoothly, I had all the timing marks lined up. Double checked. But when I pulled the starter clutch out, somehowThe timing mark on my rear cylinder cam chain moved out of line while everything else stayed in line.
      So, I researched and it advised me that I should totally reset all the timing. Once again everything seem to be going smoothly, I pulled the covers off the other side, I aligned all the timing marks as they should be without a problem.and still my rear cylinder timing mark at top of the timing chain was a few degrees off like one or two teeth it looked like. After doing everything I can to line up the timing marks, All of a sudden I realized that my engine would not turn on The left side The same way as it did on my right side.
      A full rotation, when I manually turn it by hand I run into a stopper that just clunks and my engine will not advance any further, I have all my spark plugs out there should be no compression issues, when I put the right side together the motor turned Buy hand without a problem, I actually had to turn it about eight times to get all the timing back in alignment. So when I got back to the other side I had my timing marks all lined up, the one mark at the top of my cam still was not aligned perfectly, so I was going to rotate the Cam by itself. To catch up with all the revolutions that the other side made until it aligned properly, but then discovered it would not make a full rotation from the left side. It feels like it’s running into some thing. I turned it back the other way and it went around about a whole turn, and then hit some thing again like it was in the same spot only on the other side. Does anyone know what this might be that is causing this?

    • @daleclarkjr
      @daleclarkjr ปีที่แล้ว

      You have the double marks aligned to the crankshaft the Clymer manual shows a one timing mark with the square cut out aligned to the crankshaft? I have top dead center set and the timing mark in the window of the case cover. I also used the wire method to keep my timing mark like you did. Just the split gear is not aligned to the crankshaft with the double punch marks like yours was

    • @PaulPhillipsFix
      @PaulPhillipsFix  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@daleclarkjr I think you should follow the Clymer manual and see if that lines them all up. Sorry that this job isn't fresh in my mind, that was years ago. I'm not sure why your timing mark on cam in head and marks on middle gear and key aren't lining up. I'd have to be there to see what's going on. Try calling or stop by a mechanic at your local Yamaha Dealer and tell them what's going on and maybe they'll give you input. Sorry that I don't have an answer for you Dale. Wendy had a great idea. email me @ paulphillipsfix@gmail.com we'll exchange info and you can show me what's going on via video call or Zoom. I'll do what I can to help you out.
