They actually run more RPMs today at Daytona and Talladega than they did back then. They turned 7,000- 7,500 RPMs back then. They are north of 8k now a days. It's the exhaust that's changed.
Big Daddy BBQ also did the same thing to Junie Dunleavy and the 90 team back in 2000, which also cost Mike Harmon his ride with the team. Big Daddy BBQ tried to get into NASCAR but refused to pay sponsorship money which means their stay in the sport was short.
Oh trouble! RUDD IN THE WALL HARD, SCHRADER IN THE WALL HARD! Jarrett the winner, Gordon second, and Rudd on his roof, for the second time in the Bud Shootout.
This race just proves what Ernie Irvan said in his book No Fear was definitely true. He said when he was with RYR in the #28 that Dale Jarret was the worst teammates ever and that DJ was always about himself and not wanting to help his teammates. He and Ricky could of had an 1-2 finish but he chose to hang his teammate out to dry as he always did with Ernie.
@@BANGITSME87 yeah, but to be fair, that equipment was not even close to competitive. Yates cars weren't nearly what they once were by 2007. I think Rudd could have had a decent shot at a few more cup wins had he been in Hendrick or Roush equipment. He gave the 21 car a few good runs during his stint with the Wood Bros, but after that teams and sponsors weren't particularly looking to hire a guy his age to wheel their cars
I really never understood this race, what was the point.Wreck a race car to get into the shoot out wonder if was worth it to the teams that wrecked a race car before a lap was completed.
Most teams brought at least 3 cars if not 4 to Daytona at that time. Also have to consider if Jimmy Spencer isn't in that pack, there probably isn't a wreck. Excluding Ernie Irvan, if there was a more reckless and dangerous driver in the 80's-90's, than Spencer, then I'm not aware of it. Untalented driver who legitimately believed in his tiny little mind that he was better than Earnhardt.
The point was there were cars on the race track racing each other for fun and entertainment. Why would you ever want LESS racing? This weird "what was the point" mindset is the entire reason the sport is a pale imitation of what it used to be.
This was before they changed the rules to include past race winners and champions in the race. I believe this was the last year where the requirements stated you had to have earned a pole position the previous season to participate in the race.
@@jasoncoleman6532 The qualifying race was for the drivers that were fastest second-round qualifiers the year prior. This was the last year for it (and for second-round qualifying, also).
Still boggles my mind how this race could feature so much action and solid racing, then the 125's and 500 were snoozefests.
i want modern Nascar stock cars to sound like this again
It's not going to happen
@@GH32143 Truck Series has those sounds at Daytona & Talladega.
The Bud Shootout was the only good Cup race during Speedweeks of 2000.
That older ESPN intro theme. Brings back so many memories.
That older CBS theme gives me goosebumps!
@@badbooking3221 Yes indeed
Mark Meadows
Yep, Always makes me think of race day at Grandpas house,. & the cars @ Daytona & Dega sounds nothing like years ago.
Bob Jenkins was always annoying. He didn't hide his pro-ford bs. Fuck trump. Impeach and indict.

😐 You ok bro?
DJ sure had himself a proper hot rod.
They got so close to an epic disaster in the last chance qualifier.
Cars sound so much different. Like they were running more rpms than they do now

These guys had A LOT more horsepower than today's cars, today's cars have been cut back to 550 hp on super speedways
You might want to double check that on the restrictor plate tracks.
This aired on my 8th birthday.
i was at this race with my dad, we lived in florida and went every year to the shootouts. miss these days so much
It's weird how this seems like a better race than the 125s and the 500. Why?
Rudd in the Wall hard Schrader in the Wall hard Jarrett the winner Gordon 2nd and Rudd on his roof
Why am I holding my breath on the restarts ?
1:21:24 Ricky Rudd flip
If I remember, Big Daddy BBQ on the side of the 41 of Rick Mast never paid careener Larry Hedrick so that operation shut down.

Ricky craven was impressive holding on in the middle
Ricky Rudd should've never retired, he could get in a car today, and be more than competive
His stint in the 88 Yates car begs to differ.
Hell he made 906 starts he hung on for a long time.

Gordon should have used this paint scheme for the entire 2000 season. I loved the rainbow car but when Ray left the scheme felt out of place.
I was there. 😊

The whole point of this race SPEED WEEK was to put butts into the seats, and money into the coffers.
