This was the year I started loving NASCAR my favorite driver was Rusty Wallace, now its Kurt Busch. Nothing got me more fired up then hearing Fuel by Metallica every sunday race. Old school LP and Blink 182. Everything was so much different back then. It was more fun to watch each week in my opinion. Its crazy to think only 7 of the 22 drivers race full time now. ( JR, Kurt, Tony, Mark, Jeff, Ryan and Bobby) Thanks for uploading this! A lot of fun to watch cuz i've never seen this race before.
2002 Budweiser Shootout Location: Daytona Beach, Florida Track: Daytona International Speedway Type of race track: Superspeedway Starting cars: 22 Finishing cars: 21 Laps: 70 Pole Winner: Kurt Busch (97) Most laps led: Tony Stewart (20) (31 laps led) Exhibition Race Winner: Tony Stewart (20)
While it is on TH-cam, it doesn’t have a name, to find it you just type in 2002-2004 Daytona 500 theme, and unfortunately there isn’t a single version of the theme that doesn’t have any other sounds
2003 til 2016, 2017 would've been the last year as a Saturday night race, but was rained out till the next day. 2018 will be a Day race for the first time since this one.
@@zanemarte9877 it wasnt long before this Night races began, there is a Great Documentary about Charlotte Motor speedway and the Dying All-Star Race! The plan was to Run it at Night and the Technological Hurdles they had to cross for It to happen. Dale Sr. Played a huge roll because he had such a Knack for seeing Every little thing while driving around the Track, they Fine tuned it on his very Word!! Will link it when I find it
This race was the only one Casey Atwood raced the 19 car in 2002 since he won the pole at a race in 2001. In the 500 he would eventually drive the 7 car owned by Evernham and Ultra Motorsports. Not sure why the did the move, I guess in respect to Casey.
Carolina Tater Until 2017 when it was rained out on Saturday February 18th then they raced the next day. And in the upcoming 2018 season The Shootout now The Clash will run on the Sunday before the 500 but after front row qualifying.
The reason why this was 2002 because back then fox carried the bud shootout in 2001 so it was tnt the following year because nbc was going to broadcast the Daytona 500 on that Sunday and let fox do its season because at the time fx and fox were partners at the time and the second half tnt and nbc hold the rest of the season and tnt used to be the home of the nascar banquet awards from December so it was like that when i was little
disregard that last partial-comment by me, that was supposed to go to another vid, and i accidentally struck post part way through on the wrong vid...i failed lol. cuervo can you do me a favor and clean up the mess i made here by deleting my rubbish :P
@Infamousperson00 Yeah i miss the strip too. But they got rid of it because the drivers hated it. Alteast the COT makes the racing look like the racing with the strip.
The roof spoilers were the reason why the drivers drafted up to the guys in front of them way too close for comfort that's why they got rid of them. Not because they hated them. If only they kept the near vertical angle rear spoiler the races today would be more exciting.
And he finished Top 10 in points too, his last career Top 10 points finish. He never came close to that in the #21, although he did almost win at Kansas in '04, and Sonoma in '05.
Oh how i miss that SOUND!!!
Tony was THE favourite to win the 500 that year. He had literally won everything in Daytona speedweeks coming into it. Then the engine goes on lap 2-3
Kurt Busch literally bookmarked the 2002 season on pole position. Drew spot 1 for the Bud Shootout, qualified 1st at Homestead

TheGreatest2481 As of 2018 Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman are the only ones left out of the 21 people who ran this race.
as of 2022 Kurt Busch is the only driver left

What year did NASCAR start to have this race at night? By the way, you have to love the Ford Taurus as a race car! LOL!!

I think because Atwood won a pole
In Homestead
Caution Free race back to back. Who knew even with that aero package.
last daytime shootout...

AutoRockinRacing94 All The Small Things by Blink-182
i like the length of the video, 88:33 tehe :D
Now it's called The Sprint Unlimited. No I like Bud Shootout better.
Avery Hage As of 2018 It's back to The Clash
Its back to being The Busch Clash THE ORIGINAL NAME for 2020
they should made it a Saturday night race
Matthew fread It was from 2003 to 2016 but 2017 it was postponed till the next day for rain and they made it a Sunday Afternoon race again for 2018.
This should've been on NBC, not TNT. :)

Harvick is full time.
It would've been his rookie season in the 30 car if Dale lived.

say budweiser shootout ONE MORE TIME
Budweiser Shootout.
From that moment he had that bad start off the green flag, I had a feeling Rudd was going to struggle in 2002. It just felt like bad vibes to me.
At least he won... at the expense of Jerry Nadeau. Poor Jerry.
And he finished Top 10 in points too, his last career Top 10 points finish. He never came close to that in the #21, although he did almost win at Kansas in '04, and Sonoma in '05.
