Brilliant , nicely explained wow , so impressed, you know your staff rite . It makes even exiting including maths nd science ma stuff indeed . Keep doing good job wonderful bravo 🙌🏾. RSA home of VW German Engines I salute
Hi mate, any chance you could explain setting up the distributor for a first time start up? Ive got no set points or markings on my distributor and struggling to get a position to fire the engine up.
With the engine at TDC the distributor should fit with the connector on the bottom then the rotor arm should line up with the notch thats on the distributor housing
@@GreyGooseRestorationsI have finally got it running but think the timing is out, doesnt seem to rev past 2-3k and the spark plugs are black after a few minutes of running. My gearbox inspection plug is stuck so thats my next job!
Last time I did this, the arrow diamond mark was fluctuating alot before and after the timing strobe, it was all over the place so to say. That 16v I had then was with knock sensor and KE jetronic, perhaps the knock sensor told the ECU to retard the spark timing and at the same time some other electronic (ignition module?) told it to be more advanced, I dont know. And as soon as I let gas on via the gas cable, I noticed the arrow could almost dissapear from the inspection hole and it would fluctuate as I gave it more or less gas. Is this something ever you seen?
Yes, if you disconnect that plug it stops the ignition system adjusting timing advance so you can get an accurate set point, then once all happy connect it back together
@@GreyGooseRestorations Oh wow, good to know On my current 16v (KR, not PL as was my old) I instead get quite alot of burble (not really backfire but) when letting of gas and its engine braking, is this healthy or some kind of sign of bad ignition timing? Should I diagnose it?

Thanks, glad you liked it

Did you disconnect the wire/plug that tails off the coil?
@@GreyGooseRestorations no didnt do that, is that a cause to it?

Could be a overly rich CO2 level
