    Your hogshead inspection cover looks like part of a "Ford Faithful" external supplementary oiling system. The vendors sell parts for it if you are missing anything.

    I read Ford Model T production required their suppliers to ship to Ford only on wood crates/pallets of certain size, Ford then repurposed the wood in floor boards and other uses.
    Fascinating times back then.

    That corrosion up at the top on the flywheel tells you how long that thing hasn’t run...😉. That block needs a good flushing.

    You should not use an impact wrench to loosen head bolts. That might be why 2 are broken, and you should use real oil, not WD40 to lubricate the bores.

    I have a 1924 tt stakebed that I have inherited and I plan on driving it as my first car because I am 15 years old. I hope to have it running by the 4th of July. Overall, it is in good condition. Was on a farm for a while but it spent about 20ish years in storage but that transmission is likely bound up because I cannot crank it anymore. What happened was
    When I was cranking it, I got to about 2 o clock and would not crank further. I was wondering ding if anyone had any other suggestions on what it might be before I start tearing into the transmission. Thanks.

    I'm new to T's and somewhat confused how a friction clutch - much less three - can hold onto a smooth cylinder in an oil bath.

    • @michaelbenardo5695
      @michaelbenardo5695 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are the bands. One is for forward, one is for reverse, and the other is a brake band. They are operated by the floor pedals.

    • @cratecruncher6687
      @cratecruncher6687 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelbenardo5695 I understood that part more or less. I've since seen one dismantled and bands replaced so I'm a bit higher on the curve now. My confusion was in regard to how there could be sufficient friction between the cotton band lining and smooth steel drum without slipping uncontrollably being that it's submerged in oil. Obviously it has grip despite it's slippery environment.

    Why wouldn't you check the clearance on the rods and mains? Easy enough now that you have it apart.

    • @Jerod_Helt
      @Jerod_Helt  ปีที่แล้ว

      The main bearings have to be poured in place on the block. It’s very hard to find someone to do that and very costly. So basically if the bearings are bad the engine is worthless. I believe the rod bearings also require machining when replaced.
