.40 is a better round than popular media would lead you to believe. Paul Harrell has done some "meat target" comparisons with 9mm and .40 and .40 seems to have superior terminal ballistics.
Isn’t that the truth. Hard as heck to find real 10mm anywhere. It’s almost always sold out. I’m thinking I’m grabbing some 180 grain XTP bullets and seeing if I can get them close to 1350 fps so I get +700 ft/lbs out of it like u should.
I'll never give my 40 up. It's my preferred carry, always has been. I think my G23 gen4 does everything I need perfectly. It's easily controllable under rapid fire but maybe that's just because I'm used to shooting 40 forever since it came into existence in competition. Hell my first 40 competition gun was a converted machined 9mm single stack our gunsmith made. Still have it and it's still smooth as glass.
I can't really think of a time when corbon put out something that didn't really work as advertised. But im really impressed with the consistency between barrel lengths.
That's remarkable performance. I didn't expect them to be so similar in both barrel lengths. I'll be buying more! Great Shooting & thanks for the test.
Fearsome performance CorBon is known for. I just got myself several boxes of their 125gr+P 9mm JHPs, to complement my usual Federal Punch carry rounds. Both of those choices thanks to this channel of course 🎉
@@M4A3 - I am well aware of the 10mm (and the often sadly not-at-all full-house loads that one usually finds these days). I have always thought full-house 10mm to one of the best big-bore loads for just about everything. However, when toting a gun concealed in semi-tropical coastal Alabama under a light t-shirt size and weight become a factor. So, for less power but still "good" power, I like the .40 Plus, when I retired my old dept gave me tons of .40 ammo and I already have several .40s including 2 small Kahr pistols.
Cor Bon really brings it to the party but this load really kicks it up a notch. I don’t think I’ve seen a load perform so consistently from guns so different in size. Really great stuff 👍👍
Looks like I'm going to have to try a box. I bet they'd work great on deer. Killed my biggest buck with 155 grain, 1300 fps, 582 ft lbs of energy. XTP bullet from Underwood. Atomic makes a spicy 40 meatball too. 155 grain, 1325 fps, 602 ft lbs of energy. Gold dot bullet. Underwood makes good hard cast or woods carry rounds too. 200 grain at 1000 fps. I know those are good black bear medicine. I'm not a 9mm fan but their hard cast in 9mm has stopped 1 black bear that I know of. I won't carry smaller than 40. Don't care what the majority is doing. When is the majority right? 40 isn't even talked about anymore, even though it's always beat 9mm and 45 acp ballistics. And hard barriers. I appreciate this channel still reviewing the best carry cartridge 😁.
Those are some copper expanders I would consider running. Great test as always. Number one ammo tester on TH-cam in my opinion. Appreciate you my friend.
That's some nice wicked ammo there Tools. Good to see an ammo manufacture stepping up to the plate and delivering. Looking forward to the 9mm test. Have a great weekend. Be vigilant and always be safe my friend.
Shooting my M&P Shield 2.0 in 40 cal at the range today, I still can't understand why more people don't go back to it or at least work it into their EDC routine. For the average shooter, it's just as easy to shoot as 9mm after just a session or two of practice, but the ballistics are just flat out superior. If I'm carrying anything bigger than a pocket pistol, I want it in 40 S&W, myself.
Ive tested these rounds as well and played with what they would do with lots of layers of denim and I think I was able to get through 8 layers and it still expanded with no issues whatsoever absolutely amazing rounds ..
These are great. They make a 45 acp +P version too. My first experience with Corbon DPX was testing them in a 380 acp and 38 special. Same great expansion. I only with they would coat the bullets like Barnes does and use a nickel plated case.
Once again another top performance from CorBon. Great test and commentary. Very good results on both parameters. Going to have to try some CorBon. Thanks for sharing and be safe. ⭐️🇺🇸⭐️👊
Great video. That’s definitely a winner! I still haven’t gotten around to testing out the Gen 4 G23C. I originally bought it just to have one since there don’t seem to be many anymore. But it could end up being one to add to the edc rotation. It’s so tiny compared to the G20 I usually carry. Not LCP Max small, but still a big difference.
I'm with you. Man, would I love to see a strong, +P variant of this exact round! I'm used to the old Corbon 135 gr. JHP @ 1300+ fps. out of my Glock 23. Thankfully, I still have some that's about 25-years old in an ammo can. Still fires 100%. That kind of power behind these modern projectiles would be spectacular.
That looked great out of the g27. I have a px4 storm compact in .40 S&W and this stuff looks like a good option to run. Nice performance for shorter barrels there for sure.
Great test, Brian! I'd like to find some of those bullets so that I could load them up for my 10mm! I like the performance, especially the penetration! Any bullet that opens that much and yet still penetrates well has got to be a winner! I'm not sure I'd be giving up my Lehigh Xtreme Defender's for this stuff, but I wouldn't feel bad about carrying them, that's for certain. At this point all I need to see are the velocity figures for their 10mm DPX and I might even have to try them out. Despite their 10mm velocities on their other ammo, which seems a bit low, these things might well be a real innovation! Thanks for the time you spend testing, it sure saves me a lot of trouble doing the testing myself! Thank you!! Cheers,

This was a great test. I’ve done a test with similar supervel 115 +p+ on thick bone and it looked like a fmj. Copper is nice until it doesn’t expand, at least it always gets penetration though
Your range is like mine in a thousand years they're going to think the biggest lopsided gun fight happened in the mountains of Virginia and northeast Georgia.
Tools! Here in Vegas I just picked up 10 boxes of Federal HST 165 grain Hollows, $23.99 per box of 50 at Sportsman’s. I thought that was a steal. Nice video as always bro.
Those are some really pretty rounds. They look appropriately menacing and expensive out of the box and picture-perfectly expanded out of the jelly! I'm tempted to buy a box just to fondle the little buggers! Seriously, Cor-Bon has made some changes. Their website is improved and they have restocked some items that I thought were basically dead. For example, right now they have their Glaser Safety Slug product available in numerous calibers. That wasn't the case for a long time. These DPX numbers are offered also in .357 and .38 so I hope one day you can test those calibers.
Just a heads up, don't do corbon's 10mm dpx unless you wanna be sad. "Bullet Wt.: 155gr DPX Velocity: 1200fps Energy: 496ftlbs Test Barrel Length: 4.6 Inches" watered down to heck. the other corbon 10mm products are at least over 500.
Only bad thing is you 9:46 can't find them anywhere. Only place that I found them they were $23.00 + $18.00 shipping. I don't like them that much Maybe for 50 but not 20. Think I will stick to Federal HST lol
Great ammo for the shorty barrels out there, and both expanded great. I'd like to see rounds like this, and the Monolithic ones hitting a harder target like bone in the future!
I would love to see you test the 9mm+P DPX. I might be switching from 124+P HST. That combination of penetration and expansion kind of makes FPE an afterthought.

No kidding! The .40S&W has a lot going for it!
From all the testing I've seen, .40 just seems to be pretty damn reliable in performance across a lot of ammo types.
That's really impressive. 15 inches and .75 expansion with 450 efp.
Yeah, can't complain with that.
A velocity of 1200 fps with a light 140 gr bullet doesn't impress me. To many compromises with copper HP rounds, I only use lead HP bullets.

.40 S&W might be the answer to a question that didn't need to be asked, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good cartridge and these bullets rocked it!
