Girls I dated back then barely used make up, maybe some lippy and eye shadow and that was it, and they looked bl00dy gorgeous!! Dear old Aunty BBC really had no idea what young Mick was on about when he pranced around singing about "Brown Sugar " - and to think only a couple of years earlier they'd banned Je t'aime for being sexually explicit ...
You made me think that we were a nation in sinc , all watching more or less the same tv programmes , same newspapers talking about the same topics at home and work, it was nearly a cultural identity that we just can’t put our finger on today to describe, we’re so fragmented as a nation now …. is this good or bad ?

I would have been twelve and never really saw T-Rex on TV. I think Irish TV had TOTPs but it was really all on the radio. Got in to music 3 or 4 years later and loved their hits. Elton John there, wow. Amazing now there are videos of studio recordings from this time everywhere on YT, yet I thought Michael Jackson's Thriller had the first ever pop video (I forget the name now, lol)
I was 7 in 1971. Sure there were problems in the world back then, but people back then had less(our family didn't have a car)but people appeared to be content & even happier with less possessions & technology than we all have today.
