In this video PGA Golf Professional Rick Shiels takes the on a challenge of hitting 1,000 golf balls in one day whilst on lockdown in his HOME GOLF SIMULATOR. In this challenge using Foresight GCQuad Rick plays at 18th Hole Pebble Beach, 7th Hole at Pebble Beach, 18th Hole at Wentworth, 18th Hole at Carnoustie and the 18th Hole at Abu Dhabi Golf Club before seeing if Rick Shiels can get a HOLE IN ONE at the 7th Hole at Pebble Beach.
Rick Shiels has never hit this many golf balls in one day ever before. Will Ricks golf swing get better? Will Rick Shiels hit the golf ball longer? Will Rick Shiels hit the golf ball Straighter? Can Rick Shiels become a better golfer because he has hit one thousand golf balls in on day whilst on lockdown in the UK in the home golf simulator using GCQuad from Foresight and also using Titleist ProV1 golf balls. Will Rick Shiels learn to hit his Cobra F9 driver longer on the fairway, Will Rick Shiels learn to hit his Ping Blueprint irons closer to the hole, Will Rick Shiels learn to finally control his wedge distances using his taylormade Milled Grind 2 wedges. Rick also take the chance to call some of his friends for words of wisdom, Rick calls European Tour and PGA Tour golfer Tommy Fleetwood, Rick also calls his friends Peter Finch, Andy Carter and Matt Fryer. @@MrCRMoir yeah for me 110 is about my average score. But doing the range and playing 18 usually takes like 5 hours to do. Doing 1000 shots just sounds like a weeks worth of golf

I am sure everyone wants to know how you felt the next morning when you got out of bed. The amount of strain and stress on your hands and forearms was evident in the video but your core and back muscles get a workout way beyond what they are use to. So please let us know if there were any ill effects from your 1000 shot day. Great friends too!!!! LOL

Back in the end of High School and going into college (never ended up going) I worked at a golf course in Michigan and would hit roughly 5-7 large buckets of balls (105 in each bucket) at least 5 nights a week. I would say on average I hit roughly 3000 balls per week for about 5 months straight.
Handicap is at +4.5 right now so I think it paid off.

What an absolute mad lad. Years ago I was hitting 300-400 every day for a period of time. Left hand and ribs definitely payed the price. Terrible blisters and at one point even developed an _insanely_ painful case of costochondritis that knocked me out for weeks. Can't even imagine hitting 1,000 in a single day.
The most balls I’ve hit in a day is 800+ and it ripped a whole in a glove

I played 36 holes in one day (much younger). Could barely lift my arms at the end of the day!

I've hit 1k on multiple occasions when I literally spent 10 or more hours on the range. I agree that it really isn't a good idea because you are basically worthless for a day or two after that especially in the fingers, elbow and forearms.
There is a point along the way where the body just goes into autopilot just like running a marathon I imagine. The mind is quiet and your body attempts to be as efficient as possible to conserve energy because you are fatigued. I always remember that feeling when I play or practice and try to enter that zone as quickly as possible. Great video Rick!
I was taught to practice with purpose so I always have at least three practice swings to get the feel for want I to do and then take the shot. It usually takes me two hours to hit 105 and most days, that's enough. I can't imagine hitting 1000 in a day, the most I've hit is 250 and by then I was pretty bored. ps, I'm still crap ;)

On a driving range, don’t even bother doing practice shots
Every golfer who doesn’t have a simulator like me I would easily do this challenge for the grind
Tommy Fleetwood is a god living amongst men that’s the dude
Interesting challenge. If you're trying to improve I think there are some flaws from this approach from a learning science perspective.
- Quality & consistency over quantity. You're better practicing for 30 minutes every day with lots of focused, high quality reps.
- Add more variability. Spamming SW from 92 yards 100 times in a row puts you into a 'zone out' where you're not really learning. Better to more closely mimic real golf. Pick a new club and a new target with every shot.
- Add some external pressures. Manufacture competition and stress. Mickelson had a putting drill where he required himself to make 100 3 footers in a row. If he missed, he'd start over.

Wow 1,000 shots in one day! I did a challenge on our TH-cam channel were I hit 600 shots in one day and I was really sore and tired after that. I wonder how you will feel tomorrow :). I tried swinging a club the next day and couldn't do it.

Rick please do a hole in one challenge. Hit X amount of balls each day until you get a hole in one
At 1 per minute, that's nearly 17 hours of non stop hitting.
If I did this: 1k golf balls successfully put into the (virtual) forest
I started learning golf two months ago. During this period, I practice twice a week that one with coach and one by myself. I hit about 250 to 450 balls every practice but never tried over 500. 1000 sounds quite crazy. Maybe I have to try next time. However, my swing is still not stable enough. Quality of each ball hitting seems more important to me than number of balls. Like your video and style so much and thanks for your sharing your pro experience. Hope can meet you one day. Faldo - 1000? I did that before lunch! He used to hit 2500 a day when he was changing his swing to win Majors. Hell, I've hit more then 1000 a day and picked every ball up.

Practice for one course, par 72, in 1000 shots. Do the math. Take 22 attempts for each normal full stroke (tee, approach, *lay ups on Par 5s): 36x22=792. Then add 12 short game shots per green (go around the clock face): 12x18=216. That gets you to 1008 shots, avg 45 sec per shot will take 12.6 hrs. (42 min for a single par 4).
*going for a 5 in 2: double the short game shots, transfer 10 shots to par 3 approaches

Hi Rick Congratulations on completing the challenge I'm very surprised that your arms held up you never mentioned your lower bk that had to be bad. I hit 10x100 ball buckets at a range without gloves when I was about 18 and had raw hands for a week after. That same year I played 72 holes at the busiest municipal course. At some point it's no longer practice LOL!!! The clubs were garage sale vintage Wilson McGregor blades. That was over 30 years ago, I still suck at golf.

Great vid Rick! Our local legend Moe Norman (RIP) was known for hitting 1000 balls a day on average. Definitely was one of the best ball strikers of all time! I think you should challenge some other coaches/youtubers to do this challenge as well! Maybe Peter Finch, GM Golf, Dan Hendriksen...
What's really impressive is that you still have the energy to hit all of those like buttons.
Rick, for your next challenge, why don't you try 1000 putts. 1/3 from 10 ft. 1/3 from 20 ft. And 1/3 from 30 ft.. keep a tally how many you sink from each distance. After all, The putter is the most used Club in the bag which makes it the most important Club in the bag.
Talked (and played!) with George Archer once and he said he’d done this a couple of times back in the 50’s-60’s. Back then you had your caddy shag all the balls for you! Poor caddy! His caddy would stand out on the range, let the shot bounce once and catch it. Never attempted this myself, after 9 I need a candy bar or an iced coffee just to finish all 18! Rick: They say Ben Hogan hit 1000 balls a day on the range but I don't know about that one...If you hit 2 balls a minute it would take you 8 straight hours to hit 960 balls and that would not be productive...No feed back on shots and just swinging the club...Can do more damage to your swing and frame then good....So you can spend two hours on the range or five which would give you best results?????? cause there are other parts of Golf to also work on...Good Luck....

I once played in a golf Marathon for an American Lung Association, plan was to try and play 100 holes. Ended up playing 162 holes and raising about $25,000. Long day dawn to dusk but like Rick the thought of raising money for the charity kept me motivated to keep going.
I've hit 550 shots in a 3 hour session at top golf($15 unlimited weekday from 9am-12pm) and my hands were shredded. That is with about 300 shots being wedges between 30-100 yards.
I thought I was tired after walking 18 today. I guess I don't have any room to complain anymore. 🤣🤷🏿♂️🏌️👍
