I mean I am Eleven but yeah he is way better than me I am actually good for my age I beat my grandpa and tie my dad all the time he is also better then both my dad and grandpa John not Rick
Seriously, a 23 handicap is hardly a terrible handicap. I recall reading that only about half of golfers can routinely break 100, and that’s among players serious enough to record their scores.
19:55 Rick teeing up to a par 3 with a 7 iron: " I am going to have to tickle this in." Me pulling up to the hole with 2 of my friends: "Alright Boys, time for the big boy... Hand me my driver."
I un ironically used my 5 wood on par 3s before I learned how to hit my irons. My woods were my best clubs. Then my coach taught me how to hit my irons after i almost hit the clubhouse on accident. Now i cant even touch my woods or driver
I relate to John, I’m a terrible golfer, but I’m absolutely in love with the game. I loved his message that you don’t have to be good to enjoy golf. Losing balls, palling around with your mates, and enjoying the sport is all you need.
I'm right there with you. I hated the game of golf for years. My dad was an avid golfer and he tried to turn me on to the game when I was a kid. I tried to play all through school and finally gave up. Hated it. Couldn't get the hang of it. Felt like a failure every time I went out. 20 years later I went out again with my old man, after much coaxing. Before we left, I said to myself "to hell with it. If I shoot 150, I'm just going to have a good time." I gave up on being good. That day, not only did I break 100, I holed one out from 40 yards away for my only ever eagle. If that shot had been on TV, it would have been a replay. I've been chasing that dragon ever since, ha ha.
I genuinely remember the first time I completed 18 holes without losing a ball. Given my ability to hit balls a long way combined with my inability to hit them straight, it was a real achievement. In fact, I kept that ball as a memento.
Rick this is probably one of your funnest videos! I loved it! John is such a great representative of the majority of us golfers that love the game and play with the hope of stringing together several good shots and live in fear of the bunkers!
as a new golfer, got in my first legit bunker problem over the weekend, beautiful chip out onto the green and managed a 12-14 foot putt for par. never again will this happen though haha
@@jamesrolley6511 yeah but if your looking at the hole inside 3 feet you can still see the ball. He does it in long putts, his ear is nearly pointing down at the ball during the stroke and he can't see the ball at all, nearly misses it couple times 😂 ... I'm not knocking it though, whatever works for him haha
It’s a very good technique for long distance putts for distance control (on the purring green). Don’t bring it on the course with you though. Jordan Spieth putts any putt inside 8 feet like that.
Honestly, John is definitely a better golfer than most *bad golfers* I know. 😂 The fact that John nearly holed one and you captured it on your video is incredible! What an entertaining round fellas! EDIT: *and a magical deer!! 👀*
This is a great example of how playing with better opposition can raise your game to its optimal levels. So much of golf is the mentality that we are destined to play poorly and then we make that vision a reality. John knew he had to play well and low and behold he did!
“No matter how bad you are at golf, you always have a shot like that in your locker” I relate to that. I just went golfing for the first time today and hit 2 shots that my friend who’s been golfing for 2-3 years told me it would be extremely difficult for me to hit. I fell in love with the sport today,

Everything that Jon felt, all of us have felt - the one amazing shot per several holes that feels so amazing and keeps us coming back even after all the bad ones. Jon brought the best 9 holes he's maybe ever played for the big show here, and that had to feel absolutely fantastic!
John played an absolute demon of a game this day if his handicap is over 20 I’m sure he is over the moon, honestly a huge well done to him, besides that it seems you both had a very enjoyable day great video
This just might be my favorite video of all on your channel Rick. Seeing a avg. golfer hit that one good shot. That's what keeps you going back to the course to improve. Those little glimmers of hope where you get it just right mean everything. and MY GOD that near hole in one was an absolutely WONDERFUL shot. And honestly Rick, you had some killer oddball shots with that 7, that shot just past the poles rolling onto the green was incredible.

I’m so glad you got his amazing almost hole in one on camera he can cherish this for a lifetime
I have watched many Rick shields videos and always saw this one and didn’t watch it cause I knew the guy wasn’t a good golfer , never made such an error in all my days what a brilliant video would go as far to say it’s my favourite one yet absolutely BRILLIANT !!
"Bad golfers putt for par"
that hurt me so real
If he's a bad golfer in a game like that, then im God forsaken golfer 🤣..
Listen to Johns radio show with Elis James on 5Live. It’s brilliant!
Didn’t realise this is the same John. I agree, the radio show is great.
What app is he using?

John is hilarious, really a truly funny bloke - great match to watch and highly entertaining. Cheers!
for whatever reason, this was the best, most favorite, highest entertaining video, I've ever watched on
youtube.
Thank you Rick for your videos!! I can tell a big difference in my game with all your informative great videos that I have been watching. You simplify things for average players! Thanks. Dr. Gary Houston , Texas.
I know how I feel about John looking at the hole when he putts: deeply uncomfortable
Someone do a “OH HELLO” counter😂 love this guy
What a match, absolutely loved watching it. John, not only representing the average golfer, but also representing team lefty 🥳 👏🙌
I’ve watched this video more than you can imagine. Please do more with bad golf. I love you both and seeing you play together is so much fun. Please more
