    Darn right. I got lucky, over 10 years ago I heard of a dentist nearby who designed his own while in college. He told me these are new and not really on the market yet. My reply was any Dr who prescribes a CPAP should be arrested for cruilty to patients. He made me one I paid for, no medicare assistance in those days. Loved it, now on my 2nd one (new teeth, missing teeth, old guy stuff). Anyway I love mine, highly recommend one to anyone who wears a Darth Vader mask. Keep up the good work Doc!

    Thanks for sharing I just got my appliance today from a dentist that only specializes in sleep apena. I was scared to go to sleep with it so I decided to look for some YT videos and I just came across yours. Knowing that a dentist can have sleep apnea and seeing you remove and put in your device so easily makes me feel more comfortable. I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea a few months after falling and being diagnosed with a mild traumatic brain injury. Hopefully this will help because I became anxious about sleeping after I found out about my sleep apena.
    I truly want to thank you for sharing!

      I got my device 5 weeks ago. Wore it during the day to get used to it. I had a cold, too, which made it difficult at the start. Doing better now, but still getting used to it. I wish I'd known this years ago. CPAP machines suck.

      Hi how is this working for you? I have mild sleep apnea and cant use the cpap machine anymore

    • @fegrace_1
      @fegrace_1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamiemccleary Sorry, I didn’t respond sooner the message just popped up into my notifications to.
      So after the two month mark you have to get redo a home sleep study to see if it is working. If it isn’t they will give the next set of “trays” to push the jaw more forward so I will get retested this month (I will share another update then).
      With that said, so far I am happy with my decision. I wear my appliances every night. I often will forego a nap because I don’t want to brush my teeth again before putting them in. I would say the first six weeks was very painful because I changed my trays every two weeks and it reminded me of going to the orthodontist every night to get my braces retightened. I also didn’t know that you always put the top tray in first and then the bottom tray and you take the bottom out first followed by the top tray. I did it the opposite a few times the first few weeks and it was very painful. Honestly, your jaw, teeth, and mouth is resilient and the pain will eventually stop as long and you consistently wear them.
      The next two biggest things after the pain was getting use to having something (similar to a mouth guard (top and bottom) in my mouth all night. The first several weeks I had anxiety and I felt similar to claustrophobia so a lot of deep breath, positive self-talk, and meditation helped me through the process. The other thing was the thing that you put in your mouth each morning to reset your jaw. They said it should take 10 mins to reset. Now that I am deep into my third set of trays it can take 10-30 mins. But the first 4-6 wks it honestly took 45-60 minutes each morning to reset. I quickly added this to my morning prep time because if it isn’t done the jaw will move out of alignment and it will occasionally slip. TMJ can develop if the jaw isn’t reset. I hope the above helps since I didn’t really know about these things because my dentist and online made them seem effort and and non-problematic. It is quite possible that others never had some of the challenges that I had.
      I would absolutely recommend this over the CPAP machine. Because the shortages, recalls, and the lawsuits connected to cancer I wanted a safe alternative. Everyday I soak mine in a 3 min denture tablets, I rinse them off and let them air dry. I would rather not sleep with plastic in my mouth for the rest of my life so I am still addressing my post concussion syndrome and I am working to loose weight so that I can hopefully no longer have mild sleep apnea. It is also important to mention the appliance have to be replaced every 5 years.
      There is now some type of surgical implant into the chest and if I wasn’t eligible for the dental appliances (which anything above mild and obstructed sleep apnea isn’t eligible) I probably would have looked into that a little bit more.
      Lastly, I am very happy with my decision that I actually shared my story with someone and asked for my dentist contact. If anyone goes down this route donate purchase the ones from the store or online, go to the dentist in your area that is licensed and board certified to for the appliance. My regular dentist offer it but she is licensed and board certified specifically for sleep apnea so I went to one of the two dentist my area that specializes in sleep apnea. I am glad I went down this route because my medial insurance agreed to create a contract with the dentist and I only had to pay $750 instead of $7800! I would tell everyone to take sleep apnea seriously because it can cause other medical issues, shorten your life expectancy, or be fatal if gone untreated!

    This device, the oral insert, does work very well for me. Like most people who try it, I could not tolerate the CPAP. It went into the local trash dump (don't worry I did not pay for it, my insurance company did). I then did pay my dentist to make me a mouthpiece (my insurance would not pay for it even though it worked). It causes the lower jaw to push forward slightly and opens up my throat. There is some minor jaw discomfort but it goes away quickly. The CPAP is probably the best solution to apnea but 70% cannot tolerate it. Give the mouthpiece a try.

      Not a normal mouthpiece which just protects the teeth. My mouthpiece is made in such a way that the bottom portion of the mouthpiece is not lined up with the top of the mouthpiece, it is slightly forward and held in place with small elastic bands. This moves the lower jaw slightly forward opening up the throat. Cost me roughly $500 from my dentist. I also had to be fitted for it by my dentist.@@TheBrightKnightOfficial

    i got something just for grinding my teeth but it wasn't anything like that, just a silicone plastic. I paid 18,000.00 for my teeth and still had 10,00.00 more done in cosmetic work, this was cash. My double insurance only covered half of my Invisiline which was 5,000.00. I had been saving for 10 years to have nice teeth. I'm definitely going to go back and ask for a Herbst!

    I used a CPAP for 7 years and then my doctor told me about the OSA mouthpiece. I found a dentist who fitted people for these and had one made. It has not gone well. The process is changing a bar on the mouthpiece weekly which gradually moves the lower jaw out. There are 8 bars....I couldn't get past #2. My jaw was killing me the next morning....even after putting in the "realignment" mouthpiece each morning. I didn't wear the mouthpiece for 3 weeks and my jaw is still hurting on one side. I can barely eat. This is not for me.

    I am using visa liners at this time in hopes it will help bring my front teeth forward due to sleep apnea. I assume I will do a dry run to adjust the mandibular jaw forward before doing the mold for a setting. They must be two pieces that snap together (right?) .Why do so many sellers at Amazon ask if you want to set up a subscription to get a new ones every few months? Do they ware out in the matter of months? Any suggestions of a brand that makes them by size, have the adjustment and are thin?

    • @9009543
      @9009543 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a dentist make one for me, the VA paid for it cuz I had moderate sleep apnea and I already wore a night guard for grinding, I've had it since Dec. or 4 months, its adjustable and I have it adjusted to push my lower jaw out just a little and its enough to eliminate my sleep apnea. In the morning I put in another unit similar to a night guard that pulls the jaw back to its usual position, for just a half hour or so. These things are sturdy so I expect it to last years. The two pieces are shaped to work against one another to passively push the lower jaw out when your bite down. I have mine adjusted so that it just barely pushes my jaw out and its eliminated my sleep apnea.

    A solution for the future generation tho: stop removing wisdom teeth. They’re there for a fucking reason. “Pain” is a good enough reason for taking them out. All teeth cause pain when coming out.
    It’s the pain of growing the fuck up vs the pain of never fully grow up. I had the wisdom teeth on the right side of my lower jaw removed 1.5 years ago, for no other reason than i had pain around that area. THE TEETH DIDNT EVEN HAVE CAVITY.
    Then i started to develop fatigue, weird panic attacks for no reason, difficulty breathing in general, muscle tension on the left side of my upper body and the right side lower body (diagonally).
    That dentist, who happened to be my very own mother, had no fucking reason to even suggest taking out that tooth. She should’ve recommended I see an ENT maybe?! Or maybe, since I was 26 then, and I was a late bloomer, let my fucking teeth come out normally. But it’s so mainstream to disturb the natural order of things these days that a tooth that CLEARLY affects your face shape, positioning and breathing seems like a “no biggie”.
    Plus my mom isn’t the type of dentist or person that uses their brain, she just applies the formulas that she was taught.
    My mouth was already on the narrow side, now it’s getting even narrower. It’s debilitating.
    and no one even does wisdom tooth implants. Fuck me.
